Chapter 108
Chris’s face darkened, his jet black eyes narrowed dangerously, and the effect of alcohol had been sucked out of his body upon hearing his assistant s response on the other line.
“How did you meet her so late?” Chris interrogated.
And so, Assistant Mark began to report why he had met Rebecca on the roadside and that they had gone to the police station together to report the crime of robbery.
“And that’s what happened, Mr. Evans.” Assistant Mark concluded, his voice quavered.
Upon hearing this, Chris’s eyes darkened. The same doubts were circling in his mind, what was Rebecca doing to check the balance of her bank card at night? Is she strapped for cash? So, Chris palmed his face and remarked, “Alright, send her home first.”
When Assistant Mark hung up, cold sweat broke on his face as chills crept down his spine, making him relentless.
Upon recognizing the caller, Rebecca, who had been silent the whole time, retorted, “Assistant Mark, please park your car on the side of the road. This place is very close to where I live. It’s just across the road. You don’t have to send me off.”
“It’s okay. It’ll only take a few minutes” Assistant Mark responded, pretending to be relaxed and continued to drive forward.
In fact, Rebecca was grateful to Assistant Mark from the bottom of her heart and was embarrassed to implicate him, “But Chris…”
Chris was impatient and bad–tempered. If Assistant Mark was scolded by Chris for sending her home, she would blame herself.
Assistant Mark completely misunderstood Rebecca Gadot’s meaning and enunciated, “Mr. Evans has someone to care for. Don’t worry.”
Rebecca was stunned for a second, then immediately corrected Assistant Mark by stating, “Assistant Mark, you misunderstood me. I’m not worried that no one will take care of Mr. Evans. I’m worried that he will make things difficult for you.”
Assistant Mark coughed awkwardly and broke into a cold sweat for Rebecca. Fortunately, Chris didn’t hear what she had said, or else they’d be in trouble.

“Mr. Evans is not an unreasonable person. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.” Assistant Mark ensured.
‘Isn’t Chris an unreasonable person?‘ Rebecca pondered. She really wanted to ask Assistant Mark whether it would be alright for him.
Half an hour later, Assistant Mark drove to Malina’s Meadow and hurriedly ran into the VIP room on the top floor. “Mr. Evans, I’m sorry, I’m late.”
Chris took away the cigarette, pursed his lips, and inquired, “Has Rebecca arrived home?”
“She arrived home
safe and sound.” Assistant Mark responded.
“Did she tell you why she came out to check the balance at night?” Chris interrogated, puffing his cigarette.
“No,” Assistant Mark retorted as he lowered his head, not daring to look into Chris’s eyes.
Chris’s eyes narrowed, and his voice turned cold as he asked, “Did you forget to ask?”
Tongue–tied, Assistant Mark didn’t utter a word any further. The once quiet chamber atmosphere in the private room made people feel uneasy.
After a while, Chris snuffed out the cigarette in his hand, stood up, and walked out of the private room with heavy footsteps. He didn’t utter a word, nor did he blame Assistant Mark
With a sigh of relief, Assistant Mark hurriedly followed behind Chris and left the club.
Meanwhile, Rebecca returned to the rental house and put the cash in a safe and secure vault. Afterward, she threw herself to the bed, drained and
weary.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed, prompting her to open her eyes and see it was George’s number.
“How’s the preparation? You have the money at hand?” George asked bluntly.

“I’m trying to find a way to raise money.” Rebecca muttered, fretting that her father would go hack on his words, so she quickly added musi I will definitely be able to raise one inillion.”
“I’ve changed my mind. One million dollars is not enough. The time remains the same, but the money adds up to two million dollars. Hurry up and do it.” George remarked without a tinged of shame.
Seeing how consumed by greed, George was, Rebecca’s heart sank into pits of his vife behavior.
One million had already made her collapse, and suddenly another million was added. Was he trying to force her to death? Where would she get that sum of money?
After not hearing Rebecca’s response for a long time, George frowned and impatiently asked, “Why don’t you agree? Then, does that mean you wouldn’t mind not seeing Amelia in this life?”
Rebecca’s eyes misted in tears with the thought of mother again.
seeing her mother. However, she could only swallow her pride and accept the terms to see her
“Three days is a little tight if it’s two million dollars. Can you delay it for a few days?” Rebecca questioned, her voice fluttering.
“Only two million dollars and yet it still needs to be delayed? Chris is wealthy enough to provide that amount immediately.”
When Rebecca heard Chris’s name, she was taken aback as though she had been struck by lightning.
She lowered her head and remarked, “Chris and I divorced four years ago. No matter how much money he has, it has nothing to do with me. I can’t borrow it from him.”
“You have an ATM at hand and don’t know how to use it? It only shows how stupid you are!” George growled.
“He wouldn’t lend it to me!” Rebecca bellowed.
If Chris showed consideration, she would be willing to borrow money from him.
However, he was hard–hearted and only showed how cruel he was to her. She felt humiliated if she’d borrow even a single dime from him.
“Two million is a drop in the bucket for Chris. Even if you two get divorced, you still have a child. No matter how cold he is, he will still help you for the child’s sake. Bargain using the child, and you’ll get the money!” George refuted.
Rebecca’s heart was heavy with frustration and hurt as she hung up the phone. So, she hung up the call and threw her phone on the bed, thinking it would keep her awake all night.
The following day, Rebecca went to work in Creative Creations on time. When she entered the elevator, she happened to meet Klaus in the elevator.
“Good morning, Mr. Smith,” Rebecca greeted.
“Morning,” Klaus responded with a nod.
Rebecca stood at the elevator door, not far from Klaus. When she looked up, she noticed Klaus’s tall, straight figure from the light and shadow reflecting from the elevator door. She didn’t know if it was a delusion or a vision, but she felt Klaus was watching her.
Rebecca quickly bowed her head, closed her eyes and said three times in her heart: “Don’t be romantic…”
As the elevator dinged, the door split into halves, giving way.
In a hurry, Rebecca quickly walked out, stood by the door, and waited awhile. When Klaus came out and walked in front, she slowly followed. When they were about to arrive at the design department, a clear and pleasant voice suddenly sounded in front of them, saying, “Brother!”
Soon after, a young woman with a high ponytail and a punk–style outfit ran towards Klaus with her hands open. She was dressed in a cool outfit and had a sweet smile.
“Kimberly!” Klaus exclaimed. He touched his sister’s head as if she was a child and asked, “When did you come back?”
“Yesterday,” Kimberly chirped with a sweet smile.
“Then why don’t you go home and rest?” Klaus asked, squinting his eyes.

“No! I don’t want to! My ears are getting calluses about Mom and Dad urging about marriage. I don’t want to go back and suffer that life sentence
crime.”
Hearing this, Klaus curled up a smile and dotingly razzed, “Nonsense.”
After the two walked away, Rebecca couldn’t hear their conversation anymore. What caught her off guard was not only the fact that Kians had a younger sister but also that his younger sister was the same cool woman she had seen at the entrance of the Boris law firm the previous night.
It turned out that her name was Kimberly Smith.
