Seraphina Hayes still maintained that pitiful, innocent look.

“Caleb, what’s wrong with you? Who is Elara Vance? What did I do wrong for you to treat

me like this?”

Caleb Thorne couldn’t stand it anymore. He gripped Seraphina Hayes’ neck tightly.

“Elara was so kind, she loved me so much. If it weren’t for you, I would have known

sooner…”

Seraphina Hayes trembled, begging for mercy. “I was wrong, I just got too angry for a moment. I won’t find someone to teach her a lesson anymore.”

But Caleb Thorne still didn’t loosen his grip.

Seraphina Hayes’ eyes rolled back, and in a bout of suffocation, her memories gradually returned.

“I remember now! Elara Vance was the human shield you found for me! I just made them save her a little later! What did I do wrong?”

Caleb Thorne’s eyes were bloodshot. “You killed her! You did it on purpose!”

Seraphina Hayes clung to Caleb Thorne’s arm, shedding pitiful tears. “Caleb, aren’t I the one you love most? Why do you care if she lives or dies?”

No.

The one he loved most was the strong yet vulnerable Elara Vance.

Not the malicious Seraphina Hayes before him.

“I want all of you to atone to Elara!”

Caleb Thorne flung Seraphina Hayes away and called Elara Vance’s parents.

But no matter how many times he dialed, he couldn’t get through.

The line showed as disconnected.

“How could… how could this be…”

After some unknown amount of time, Seraphina Hayes slowly regained consciousness. She instinctively nestled into Caleb Thorne’s arms, pouting playfully, as if she didn’t

remember their recent confrontation.

“Caleb, you promised you’d prepare a candlelight dinner for me tonight.”

In that instant, Caleb Thorne’s heart turned cold.

He wondered if he was even in a real world.

Who was crazy?

He shoved Seraphina Hayes away.

A thought sparked in his mind: Elara Vance was alive. Elara Vance *had* to be alive!

He used all his connections to search for Elara Vance, but when he opened the photos

he’d downloaded, all images related to Elara Vance were blacked out.

This only further validated that Elara Vance was still alive. Someone must be helping her.

It had to be a fake death!

Caleb Thorne frantically stirred up the world, while my life was exceptionally calm-

unnervingly so.

I asked the system, “Why does this world’s mission feel so easy?”

My mission this time was to reform Declan Reed, the devoted second male lead, and keep him from spiraling into darkness.

My job was to be Declan’s secretary and supervise him so he wouldn’t do anything bad.

But I’d been his secretary for less than a month, and Declan’s favorability rating had already reached 90.

The system cleared its throat. “You transmigrated too early. The second male lead hasn’t fallen in love with the heroine yet, so he probably mistook your supervision for pursuit.”

Declan’s migraines flared up, and he frowned in frustration.

I, once again, ‘logically’ massaged his temples.

All of this was to prevent Declan from going crazy and turning dark, but Declan’s ears

turned crimson.

“Your affection for me doesn’t have to be so obvious, you know.”

I paused, and just as I started to explain, Declan said, “I’ve booked a table at the restaurant tonight. You can do anything you want there.”

The moment I heard the restaurant’s name, I knew it was the crucial turning point where

Declan was supposed to meet the heroine.

I couldn’t miss that, so I agreed.

When I arrived at the restaurant’s top floor, Declan was already waiting.

The moment I stepped inside, melodious piano music filled the air, and Declan approached me, holding a bouquet of roses.

“Well? Can I meet your boyfriend standards?”

I stood frozen, silent.

But warmth bloomed in my heart.

Being valued by someone felt so incredibly moving..

On a whim, I accepted the roses. Declan knelt on one knee, pulling out a ring box.

But with Declan no longer blocking my view, my eyes met Caleb Thorne’s, who was standing right behind him.

Caleb, his eyes bloodshot, like a wounded lion, rushed forward and seized my wrist. A

wild, untamed madness blazed in his eyes.

“Elara, I knew you weren’t dead!”
