Chapter 84
Abigail had barely laid down when Stephen knocked on her door.
She responded coldly, standing behind the door. “What?”
Stephen’s jaw tightened at her tone, but it wasn’t the time for arguments, “Grandpa has been hospitalized. His condition is critical. Dad wants you and Mom there now.”
Abigail turned to change without another word.
At the hospital, her palms were sweaty with anxiety. Abigail hurried behind Stephen toward Wyatt’s ward.
Wyatt was in the ICU. Standing at the door, Abigail felt unsteady on her feet and hurriedly reached out to steady herself against the frame. “How did this happen so suddenly?”
Entering the ICU, she watched the frail old man on the bed. Her vision swam as she grasped his wrinkled hand.
Bianca stood nearby, quietly wiping away tears.
Gabriel stood like a storm cloud, his silence oppressive.
“Abby,” Wyatt said weakly, gripping her hand. “I heard you joined Halden Group. I knew my girl would shine No matter what life throws, you’ll overcome
it.”
Abigail’s grip tightened. “Who told you this, Grandpa?” She glanced at Gabriel.
Wyatt exhaled shakily. “If you hid it, I’d never stop worrying. Now… just chase your dreams. Don’t let anyone… drag you down. Promise me.*
“Grandpa…” The finality in his words choked Abigail. She was sure that Gabriel must have said something unforgivable to trigger this.
“Promise me. You’ve only got yourself. They were born with everything. You have to be selfish!” Wyatt tightened his grip on her hand.
Tears spilled over. Everything she had worked for was to build a good life with him. “I… I’ve always tried,” she whispered. Deep down, she knew she couldn’t live without him.
Seeing her stubborn refusal to make the promise, Wyatt grew visibly agitated.
One of the doctors glanced at the monitors and quickly stepped forward. “Please step outside for a moment. The patient is emotionally unstable. His blood pressure is fluctuating.”
Abigail and her parents were shoved into the hallway.
Abigail held back her anger and glared at Gabriel. “You came to Grandpa tonight for Daniella? You drove him to this critical condition?”
Gabriel snorted, “If you weren’t so selfish, I wouldn’t need to beg him. Dani could’ve helped me at Halden Group, but you ruined her. Who els supposed to turn to? You?”
Rage burned in her throat, but Abigail kept it contained. “Get this straight. She attacked me first. You think I’m so inferior, but why did Halden Group fire her?”
“Enough!” Gabriel jabbed a finger at her. “From now on, your grandpa’s treatment depends on you. You must clean up Dani’s mess and get that blacklist revoked.” He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
Minutes later, the hospital director arrived with two doctors. “Ms. Gibson,” the director said to Abigail coolly, “your future visits require your father’s prior approval.”

Abigail’s nails bit into her palms. “You’re crossing a line, Gabriel.”
“You crossed it first!” Gabriel snapped. “Even if Dani messed up, you should’ve fixed it. She’s your sister. How could you watch her career implode? You’re
heartless.”
These words nearly tore Abigail apart from the inside. For a moment, fury blinded her. But just a few seconds later, she cooled down.
She uncurled her damp fingers. Her tone was eerily cold, and steady. “You’re right. I’m heartless. So here is my decision. I’m taking Grandpa with me. From this moment on, the Gibson family and I are done.”
