“You’re all law–abiding citizens who’ve never been to prison. You have no idea what it’s like inside. I think when regular people get out, they want a calm, easy life,” Abigail said.
Her words made some reporters pause, unsure how to continue their questioning.
Before coming here, the media had thoroughly investigated the Gibson family’s background. They knew her story well.
Abigail was supposed to be the Gibson family’s real daughter, but someone had switched her at birth. She became an abandoned baby, sent to an orphanage in Cobridge.
Twelve years of her life had been stolen. She should have returned to her wealthy family and enjoyed a life of privilege. But that never happened.
The Gibson family never accepted the girl from the orphanage. In fact, they looked down on her. Daniella had taken her place like a cuckoo in the nest and constantly bullied her.
“Ms. Gibson, I’ve uncovered something very private that I’d like to verify with you.” A young, serious female reporter stepped forward, holding her microphone. Her sharp eyes had a penetrating quality, as if she could see straight through to the truth.
Abigail turned to her. “What?”
Sebastian and the others all focused on this unusual reporter.
“I found out that you were accepted to Vanguard University,” the reporter said calmly. “But Daniella killed someone just days after you turned eighteen. Have you ever wondered if her ‘accidental‘ killing might have actually been intentional?”
The other reporters, who had been looking for tearjerker stories, now turned their attention to this female journalist.
“You’d have to ask Daniella herself,” Abigail replied. With so many people watching, she couldn’t fuel speculation without evidence.
To seek fairness and justice, one had to be honest.
Abigail knew exactly how online public opinion worked these days. Victims had to be flawless. They couldn’t have any blemishes.
If they did, and if unscrupulous media outlets hungry for traffic caught wind of it, they would twist the truth and put the victims on trial from every angle.
She’d seen too many tragedies like this happen. Abigail knew the pattern all too well.
The female reporter nodded and continued, “I interviewed the nannies who were dismissed from the Gibson

family. Almost all of them testified that Daniella bullied you constantly and even manipulated your parents and your two brothers to abuse you mentally and physically for years.
“She humiliated you and took everything from you. Even so, don’t you think Daniella deliberately killed someone with her car right after you turned eighteen?”
“People’s minds work independently. I can’t connect to her brain, so I can’t determine whether her actions were intentional at that time. Thank you,” Abigail replied calmly.
The reporter realized Abigail was truly clever. Even if Abigail knew Daniella had done it on purpose back then, there was no difference it would make.
As long as Daniella refused to admit it, no one could prove it was intentional. That was the real evil in this
situation.
When the interview ended, Abigail got into the car with Sebastian and the others.
“Public opinion is probably going to explode again today,” James said to Sebastian while driving.
“The authorities are already investigating this case. The online community is in an uproar, demanding justice for Abby,” Warren added.
Sebastian glanced at the silent Abigail but said nothing.
This should have been wonderful news. But the good news itself was actually a reflection of Abigail’s tragic first
half of life.
On the day she received the evidence, she believed that her life would finally become brighter. All those who had wronged her would go to prison and pay for their mistakes. But she had lost her grandfather.
Daniella had fled overseas. As long as they couldn’t catch her, she would remain free forever.
No matter how fierce the public outcry or how viciously netizens cursed her, it didn’t matter.
From her safe haven abroad, watching these people rally behind Abigail, she probably laughed at them all–just another group of fools she’d manipulated like puppets.
At the funeral home, Abigail finally saw Wyatt’s body.
He’d been kept in cold storage. When they pulled back the white sheet, she was confronted by his ghostly pale face. There would be no more loving/smiles from him now.
He lay there completely lifeless, his lips as white as his skin, with wounds still visible on his face.
One glance was all it took. Abigail’s mind went blank as severe dizziness overwhelmed her. Unable to stay upright, she gripped the edge of the metal gurney where Wyatt lay.

“Are you okay?” Sebastian stepped forward and steadied her.

Tears streamed down Abigail’s face. Since returning from prison, she’d gradually grown numb to most emotions. But Wyatt’s death had shown her what true heartbreak felt like.
The heavy atmosphere of grief and loss made even James sniffle.
