Chapter 15
The slap left Alexander stunned, and it took him a long moment before he slowly raised his hand to touch his swollen, reddened cheek.
“Isn’t this a dream?” he murmured to himself.
Caroline had already been driven to distraction by this inexplicable day, and she immediately sneered coldly: “A dream? Of course this is a dream. Just my luck to be stuck in this nightmare.”
With that, she stopped looking at him and turned to head downstairs.
“Caroline!” Alexander finally snapped back to reality and
hurried after her.
In the struggle, Caroline’s foot slipped, and she lost her balance, tumbling downward.
“Watch out!” Alexander’s face went pale with shock as he instinctively reached out to catch her.
But he was a step too late, only managing to pull her into his
arms.
With a loud thud, both of them crashed heavily to the ground.

Thanks to Alexander’s protection, Caroline suffered nothing more than some dizziness, with no serious injuries.
Alexander, however, lay on the ground with blood seeping from the back of his head.
“Mr. Scott!” a servant cried out in panic.
Scott Villa immediately descended into chaos as Parker rushed to get them to the hospital.
They stayed in the hospital for several days.
While Alexander was still hospitalized, Caroline planned to quietly slip away.
But just as she reached the entrance, she was stopped by servants from Scott Villa.
Caroline’s expression instantly turned cold: “What’s the meaning of this?”
The two servants looked at her with troubled faces. One of them said apologetically, “Sorry, Ms. Green. Without Mr. Scott’s orders, you can’t leave.”
Caroline let out a scoff as if she’d heard a joke: “If he wants to imprison me, he can just say so directly.”

The two servants were momentarily stunned, and before they could react, Caroline pushed past them and headed outside.
After all, she was the person Alexander cared about, so the servants didn’t dare actually lay hands on Caroline.
They could only chase after her while pleading: “Ms. Green, Ms. Green, you really can’t leave.”
Hearing the servants’ words, Caroline walked even faster.
Just then, a Maybach pulled up smoothly in front of them. The car door was pushed open from inside.
Alexander, pale-faced, got out of the car and stood before Caroline: “Caroline.”
Caroline said coldly: “Don’t call me that. It makes me sick.”
After returning to the country, Caroline had long prepared herself mentally for reuniting with Alexander.
She knew that neither she nor the Green family could match him and the Scott family, so she wouldn’t provoke him or have much contact with him.
Even if contact was necessary, she would control her temper and avoid conflicts with him to prevent trouble for herself.

But Caroline hadn’t expected that her constant retreating would only make Alexander more and more unhinged.
Before, he would just frequently wait for her at the theater, and when he couldn’t see her, he’d call and text her.
After Caroline blocked him, he didn’t get discouraged. After all, she was still in America, still in Washington.
Now, he wasn’t even pretending anymore-he actually wanted to imprison her directly at Scott Villa.
Caroline demanded: “Have you lost your mind? What exactly do you want?”
Seeing Caroline so agitated, Alexander actually felt that this was the real Caroline.
After all, they had dated for three years. How could Caroline possibly be the type to constantly yield and compromise?
Alexander smiled gently, though his eyes were filled with madness: “Lost my mind? Caroline, I haven’t lost my mind. I’m just afraid of losing you again, so I want to keep you by my side.”
He gazed at her obsessively, unable to resist reaching out to touch her: “Do you know? After you faked your death that year, that’s when I truly went insane.”

After Caroline’s death, everyone in Washington knew that Alexander had gone mad.
He sent both his once-close friend and the woman he’d been with for over ten years to prison.
Against the objections of the Scott family elders, he insisted on burying Caroline under the name Mrs. Scott.
He even prayed in every church—him, a man who had never believed in God-just hoping to see Caroline once in his dreams.
The current him was already quite restrained.
If it had been the old him, he would have dragged her straight to City Hall the day Caroline took off her mask, instead of just keeping her confined by his side like now.
