Chapter 13

The second Caroline turned around, the sound of something heavy hitting the floor suddenly echoed in front of her.

She instinctively looked toward the source of the sound and saw Bennett with a look of sheer terror on his face.

He said, “Mrs. Scott?”

In the end, Caroline naturally couldn’t leave because Bennett desperately blocked her path.

He said, “Mrs. Scott, please don’t go. You don’t know what Mr. Scott has been through these past few years. Even if you don’t want to bring up the past, I’m begging you—for the sake of Mr. Scott saving your life once-please stay and keep him company.”

Caroline sighed and said, “First, don’t call me Mrs. Scott. He and I have no relationship whatsoever.

“Second, I can stay and keep him company. But once I’m sure he’s okay, I’m still leaving.

“After all, I don’t want to have any connection with him ever again.”

With each sentence Caroline spoke, Bennett’s expression grew more awkward.

Finally, Bennett had no choice but to compromise and agree to all of Caroline’s demands.

The two of them sat on chairs outside the operating room, waiting quietly.

When Caroline lit up her phone screen for the twenty-first time to check the time, the operating room doors were pushed open.

Alexander was wheeled out with his head wrapped in bandages.

What surprised Caroline was that Alexander was actually conscious when he was brought out.

His previously unfocused eyes suddenly lit up the moment he saw her.

“Caroline.” In the VIP room, Alexander ignored his injuries and pulled Caroline tightly into his arms, his voice filled with wild joy and lingering fear.

He said, “Thank God, you’re still alive.

“I thought I was dreaming. I was afraid that once I came out of surgery, you’d disappear again. I’m so lucky.”

However, Caroline’s tone was exceptionally calm: “But I don’t feel lucky at all.”

“Caroline?” Alexander froze.

She clearly felt the arms holding her stiffen. She pulled his hands away and stepped aside.

Then she continued, “Alexander, do you know what the greatest luck would be for me? Never seeing you again.

“After all, no woman can calmly get along with someone she trusted and loved most deeply after being betrayed by him ninety-nine times.”

Caroline’s calm words, one after another, were like ropes tied around Alexander’s heart that slowly tightened, making him inexplicably unable to breathe until he felt suffocated.

Alexander ignored his injuries and frantically rolled out of bed.

His mind was in complete chaos now, not knowing how Caroline had found out about those things.

At this moment, he had only one thought in his head: to make her stay.

Alexander rushed over and hugged her, his voice trembling as he said, “Caroline, Caroline, let me explain.”

Caroline had no interest in listening to whatever he had to say

here.

The dance company had a performance tomorrow. She had to go back early to rest and gather her strength.

So Caroline directly pushed him away: “Let go of me.”

“No!” Alexander shook his head frantically. He didn’t want to experience what happened in his dream again-being released by her hand and then experiencing that extreme pain once more.

Seeing that direct words were useless, Caroline could only change her tone and sigh, “Alexander, I have a performance

tomorrow.

“Do you really want to drag down the entire company like you did when you ruined my competition before?”

Her words successfully changed Alexander’s expression, and his grip loosened slightly.

It seemed he also remembered that incident.

That was during the first week Caroline and Alexander started dating, and it was also when she was participating in her first competition as the lead dancer.

For this competition, Caroline had prepared for most of the

year.

During that time, she constantly worked with the members to modify their moves, striving to make the dance as perfect as possible.

But the day before the competition, she was locked in the apartment by Alexander, who even took away her phone.

Caroline still remembered her breakdown and despair that day, including the disappointed looks in her teammates’ eyes.

She quietly watched Alexander’s expression. His face remained calm, but his eyes were filled with conflict and pain.

Finally, Alexander chose to let go.
