Chapter 11

Compared to the distance across the stage earlier, now being so close, Alexander could clearly smell her perfume and hear her heartbeat.

He increasingly felt that the person before him was very familiar.

An impossible guess suddenly appeared in his mind.

Caroline’s silence gave Alexander an inexplicable confidence.

He slowly raised his hand, trembling as he reached toward Caroline’s face. The closer he got to her mask, the faster his heart beat, and his breathing became more rapid.

Caroline hadn’t expected Alexander to reach out directly.

Based on her previous understanding of Alexander’s personality, if other women didn’t answer his questions promptly, he would leave in anger.

That’s why Caroline dared to take the risk and try, but she never expected him to do this.

Watching his hand get closer and closer to her mask, Caroline’s entire body grew increasingly rigid with tension.

Just as Alexander’s hand was about to touch Caroline’s mask, a series of urgent ringtones suddenly rang out.

The next second, Alexander quickly withdrew his hand and pulled out his phone to answer. “Hello?”

Whatever was said on the other end made Alexander’s expression turn extremely grim.

Then, without regard for Caroline in front of him, he hurriedly turned and left.

Only after his figure disappeared from sight did Caroline’s rigid back finally relax.

She slowly opened her tightly clenched hands, her palms already damp with sweat.

That evening, the other members of the dance troupe wanted to go on a night tour to see Washington’s nightscape.

Having lived in Washington since childhood, Caroline naturally wouldn’t go.

So after saying goodbye to the girls from the dance troupe, Caroline got into a car back to the hotel.

But just as she arrived at the hotel and was about to get out, she happened to see Alexander walking out surrounded by a group

of people.

She instinctively started to turn away, but suddenly heard Alexander’s voice behind her: “Wait.”

Caroline’s expression changed, and she hurriedly rummaged through her bag to find her mask and put it on.

When she turned around again, Alexander had already walked up to her.

Regarding this woman who was still wearing a mask, Alexander remained puzzled: “You’re off work now, why are you still wearing it?”

Caroline knew she couldn’t escape this time, but she didn’t want to talk to him.

So she first pointed to her throat, then waved her hand.

Then she typed a line on her phone and held it up to him: [To maintain mystery.]

This time it was Alexander’s turn to be stunned: “Why are

you…”

Caroline tapped on the keyboard again: [An accident. Did you call me over for something?]

Only then did Alexander react, quickly saying: “I was presumptuous about what happened today. As compensation, I’d like to treat you to dinner. Would that be okay?”

Caroline frowned because she didn’t want to have dinner with

him at all.

If she did, she might lose her appetite completely.

But unfortunately, her stomach chose that moment to growl.

Hearing the sound from her stomach, Caroline quickly covered her belly, but forgot to cover her ears that had turned red with

embarrassment.

Alexander chuckled softly, then said: “I won’t take up too much of your time. We’ll just eat at a restaurant near the hotel.”

Seeing his persistence, Caroline couldn’t refuse anymore. After all, she was afraid that acting too strangely would draw even more attention from him.

In the end, she would definitely give herself away.

In the quiet restaurant, only the sound of knives and forks touching plates could be heard.

Alexander wasn’t particularly hungry to begin with, so he thoughtfully helped Caroline cut her steak.

Caroline didn’t refuse. After all, she was genuinely hungry now.

For dancers, dieting was certainly important, but dancing itself consumed a lot of energy. If she didn’t replenish her energy in time, she would embarrass herself on stage later.

So Caroline kept eating the food on her plate, not even glancing once at Alexander across from her.

Although the food on the plate was indeed delicious, that gaze constantly falling on her was quite obvious.

Caroline found it hard to ignore.
