Chapter 39 – Rescue
“Your uncle Titus has a child?” I asked Ranger.
“Apparently no one knew, Jordan Monroe is Jordan LaRue.” He said as he struggled against the silver chains.
“I’m going to shift, close your eyes. Once I shift, I won’t be able to communicate with you. I’m going to pull the chains down and you can ride on my back.” I told him.
“I don’t want to hurt you.” He said.
“Oh, trust me, you can’t. Now close your eyes.”
I shifted and moved to the silver chains on the walls. Lia grabbed the chain and yanked the bolts right out of the rocky wall. We’d have to figure out how to get them off his wrists soon, they were slowing down his
healing.
Ranger was unable to use his legs at the moment and crashed to the hard stone ground. He looked up at me and struggled for words as he took in the sight of Lia. “What the hell?”
I barked back at him; I really didn’t have time for this. I needed to get moving to find Diesel. Lia picked up the lighter in her mouth and lowered us down so Ranger could climb on.
“I can’t believe what I’m seeing!” He said and laid his head down on my back.
I went back out the tunnel and towards the fork, I was going to try the tunnel on the left this time. I sniffed the air for any signs of Diesel and kept walking until we reached the fork. “I think this tunnel leads out.” Ranger said and I nodded my wolf head.
“I think he’s bleeding on my fur; you owe me a bath after this.” Lia said.
“How are the pups doing?” I asked her.
“They’re doing just fine; all they need is our mate.” she said.
The deeper we went into this tunnel, the colder it got. I could feel Ranger shiver on my back, he was struggling to regulate his body heat while Rex was trying to heal him. I heard a faint sound from the end of
this hall and then a familiar growl.
“MATE! We found him!” Lia yipped.
I heard the sound of clanking chains and realized that Diesel might also be in the same position I found
Ranger.
“Let’s go save our mate.” Lia said and wanted nothing more than to run to her mate.
Then I heard the familiar voice of Alpha Jordan yelling. “MY MOTHER WAS NOT A w***e!”
“Of course not, just a mistress right?” Diesel’s voice rang back.
I slowly and quietly lowered myself down and set Ranger on the ground before I entered the chamber to rip out Jordan’s throat. Diesel’s scent was strong, and it was mixed with blood.
“Mate is hurt!” Lia said and she was livid.

I heard the sound of clanking chains and realized that Diesel might also be in the same position I found

I looked into the chamber and could see Diesel chained to the wall on the ground. Jordan had a syringe in his hand and was moving quick. Lia roared and they both turned to the shadow we were standing in, I stepped forward and Diesel smiled at me. Jordan’s eyes were wide open, and the color drained from his face. He looked as if he had just seen a ghost.
I could hear his heart racing and stepped closer. I saw a flash of silver in his hand and in a second he had tossed it at Diesel’s chest.
“NO!” Lia roared in my head and we lunged to protect our mate.
“LUCY!” I heard Diesel yell.
The blade was lodged in my lower rib and I fell to the ground. The silver had no effect on me but would have been fatal if it had come into contact with Diesel’s heart. My mother had died with a silver bullet to her heart.
“Lucy, can you hear me?” Diesel mind linked me.
“Yes.”
“Don’t shift, Lia will heal faster in wolf form and protect the pups.” He said.
“The pups are okay.” Lia said in my head.
“We need to get the blade out.” He said out loud.
Lia turned her head and tried to bring her mouth to the blade but couldn’t really grip it to pull it out from this
angle.
“Let me get that for you.” Ranger said as he dragged himself across the floor. He was still unable to walk, the broken bones in his legs were healing slow. The silver chains dragged behind him as he crawled using his
elbows.
“Where the hell did you come from?” Diesel growled.
“Lucy don’t move, I’ll pull it out.” Ranger’s ragged voice said.
“DON’T f*****g TOUCH MY MATE!” Diesel roared as he pulled against the chains.
“It’s okay Diesel.” I mind linked him.
“She just saved my life and helped bring back Rex when she could have let me die. I’m not going to hurt her.” He said.
I looked at Ranger and nodded my head. He reached for the knife and pulled it out, then he dropped it on the floor. The wound closed in a matter of minutes and Lia stood up to pull the silver chains out of the wall that shackled Diesel. We were engulfed in a big hug by Diesel and Lia purred. He kissed me all over my wolf face. Don’t ever scare me like that again, little one.”
“I missed you too.” Lia gushed in my head and Diesel laughed because he could hear her.
“Duke is happy to see you too.” He said out loud.
“Any idea how to get the silver shackles off? Neither of you are going to heal fast while the silver stays on.” I mind linked him.
“Jordan left his jacket in the corner; the keys are in the pocket.” Diesel said as he limped over to check the pocker
39
“Bingo!” He inserted the key and unlocked each shackle. Then he walked over to Ranger and tossed the keys
down to him. Ranger unlocked the shackles on his wrists and breathed a huge sigh of relief as he rolled over on his back and stared up at the ceiling.
“You know the bastard is going to try and kill dad.” Ranger said.
“And attack my pack.” Diesel said.
“We need to get out of here and warn them.” I mind linked Diesel, though neither of them looked like they could make it far in their current condition.
“He has rogues on the outskirts of the territory ready to attack the elders and pups. They’re going to strike when the Luna takes the warriors and the rest of the pack members on the midnight run. But seeing as the Luna is here and we’re both missing, I’m sure the pack is on full alert right now.” Diesel said out loud.
“He’d be stupid to attack now, especially after seeing Lia, but then again, he seems a little crazy.” Ranger
said.
“Almost as stupid and crazy as that Alpha who threw his pregnant mate into the hole after whipping her.” Diesel snarled.
Ranger hung his head in shame.
“Now’s not the time, we need to get out of here.” I linked back.
“Can you walk?” I asked Diesel.
“Yes, Duke is feeling much stronger now that you’re here.” He mind linked me.
“Great, now have Ranger climb on my back so we can get out of here.” I linked back.
“I will not have that asshole anywhere near you and potentially harm our pups.” Diesel growled out loud.
“Lia is much stronger than that, we’re not going to leave him here!” I replied.
“I swear to the Goddess, if you even try anything!” Diesel said to Ranger.
“I won’t, I promise.” Ranger said.
“I’m only allowing this for Rex!” Diesel growled.
Ranger climbed onto my back and Diesel rested his arm protectively around my neck and we left the cave. Diesel had taken the fire torch off the wall and held it in the other hand.
“Where the hell have you been anyway?” Diesel asked Ranger.
“Getting Jordan’s special treatment after he broke me out of your cell. He used wolfsbane and night shade on me. I woke up chained to the wall down here.”
“Did you know about him?” Diesel asked.
“No. Never even suspected it.” Ranger replied.
“When this is over, I need Ursa’s head. She’s been working with him.” Diesel said.
“I’ll personally deliver it to you myself.” Ranger replied.
We made our way through the tunnel and could feel the temperature dropping. We reached the end of the tunnel and it appeared to be closed off with a wall of snow.
< 39
“Think you have enough energy to move that?” I asked. “Or should I try to melt it with fire?”
Diesel spoke out loud. “If we melt it, we risk the chance of flooding this tunnel because we don’t know how much snow is on the other side. Let me try to move it first.”
Diesel closed his eyes and tried to focus, he waved his hands and I could see the snow tumbling back: He paused a moment and tried again, after a few more attempts, I could see a dark hole in the snow The hole grew larger and we were able to walk through it.
We were finally standing outside beneath the full moon and looked around at our exit point. We could see the castle from where we were. We were in the southern mountains and there was snow that seemed to cover the pass to the castle.
Diesel fell to his knees. “Lucy I think you caused an avalanche when Lia unleashed that powerful growl. The entire pass has been sealed off with snow. No one can get in or out without climbing over the mountains.” He
said.
“Does that mean the rogues are stuck on the other side?” Ranger asked.
“I think so, but Jordan won’t give up so easy.” Diesel said.
I tried to mind link Payton. “Payton, are you there? I found Diesel.”
I heard a howl rip through the air from the castle, it was Payton! I howled back into the night. My howl was returned with hundreds of pack wolves howling back to their Luna. Diesel suddenly shifted and Duke rubbed up against Lia before he let out a howl that echoed through the territory.
A war is coming.
