Chapter 99
Julian grinned. “Don’t think I’ll go easy on you.”
He gave me a playful shoulder punch and slipped out.
The room had two doors, and the wolf Julian had tracked down for me was inside. Julian didn’t ask why- only knew it tied to the Quinn pack.
I stepped in.
A middle-aged she-wolf sat there, white-haired and frail, her face gaunt. Seeing me, her dull eyes flickered for
a long moment before she mumbled, “My son was as handsome as you.”
I offered a polite smile. “Thank you for the compliment.”
On the terrace, I propped my head up wearily, enduring fifteen minutes of my own “legend.”
The gossip was vivid, almost poetic.
The loudest claim? My “skills” were unmatched, with whispers of me wielding some long-lost seductive art to
enchant wolves.
Sabrina tried calming me at first, but by the end, she seemed tempted to eavesdrop herself.
“Spill it, babe. You hiding some secret moves? Don’t hold out on me,” Sabrina teased, leaning on my shoulder,
her charm dialed up like a tipsy succubus. Her emerald dress glowed against her skin.
I downed my wine in one gulp.
I stood, marched to the lower level, and faced the gossipers with a serious expression. Raising my bracelet-adorned hand, I mimed a mystical gesture.
The group froze, awkward, then exchanged confused looks. What’s she doing?
I finished my “ritual,” sighed deeply, and declared, “Within a week, you’ll face a bloody disaster.”
I turned and left.
The gossipers stood stunned, jaws dropped.
Sabrina nearly collapsed laughing, following me inside. “Babe, you’re too much!”
I kept a straight face. “Who said I was joking?”
Sabrina almost bought it. “For real?”
“Nah, fake.”
“You little!” Sabrina shoved me playfully, mock-annoyed.
Jokes aside, I was genuinely ticked off.
I couldn’t exactly start a brawl at a fancy mixer-I was Alpha Gideon’s plus-one.

Throwing down would be a bad look.
Scanning the room, I noticed Julian was out, but Alpha Gideon was gone.
Probably meeting his real target for the night.
Who’s this mystery big shot?

“Sabrina, any clue who Julian invited tonight?”
“Your Alpha Gideon, duh.”
I didn’t bother correcting her. “Besides him?”
“Nope. If Julian calls someone important, it’s your Alpha Gideon.”
“Alright, alright, I get it.”
“Aw, blushing already?”
I sighed. Panicking, not blushing.
Even I didn’t know, so this mystery guest must be some untouchable VIP.
But who was so elite that Alpha Gideon needed Julian to make the connection?
The mixer was getting old, and Alpha Gideon wouldn’t be back soon.
I asked Sabrina if she wanted to grab food elsewhere in the hotel.
Sabrina, sensing my discomfort with the vibe, agreed to tag along.
She was, after all, tasked by Alpha Gideon to watch over his “Luna Vivian.”
We hit a restaurant on the fifth floor, ordering lightly.
I checked my phone-still no reply from Cassie.
I called.
After a moment, Cassie picked up, her voice low and excited.
“Vivian, big news! I’ve got the smoking gun to nail Vanessa. No one’s saving her now-she’s done! Gotta go,
turning off my phone. I’ll fill you in later!”
She hung up.
I stared at my phone, frozen for two seconds.
Alpha Adrian’s threats from earlier exploded in my mind like a bomb.
I redialed.
It was off.
“Sabrina, I gotta go. I’ll treat you next time.”

I rushed out, checking Cassie’s location on my phone.
After that incident, Cassie had set up tracking on our phones to find each other if needed.
The app showed Cassie at a downtown high-rise.
Waiting for the elevator, I texted Alpha Gideon, asking to borrow Caleb.

I wanted Alpha Gideon to come along, but he was in a big meeting with some VIP Julian had hooked him up
with. How could I ask him to ditch that?
Caleb, though, he’d probably lend. He looked intimidating enough.
Sabrina paid and caught up. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Don’t play me. I heard ‘Vanessa.”
I hated troubling others, but in the elevator, I spilled. “My best friend-also my lawyer-is digging up evidence
against Vanessa. She said she found something, and I’m freaking out. I need to check on her.”
“Like that? I’m coming with you,” Sabrina said.
“You don’t have to.”
“What, she’s your bestie, but I’m not your friend?” Sabrina fake-pouted.
“Fine, but stay in the car when we get there.”
“Deal. Your call.”
I bit my lip.
I didn’t want Sabrina involved, but knew her persistence. Hopefully, it was just paranoia.
Before we reached the lobby, Alpha Gideon called.
I’d texted to avoid disturbing him, but he called back, and my heart softened.
I answered.
Before I could speak, his serious, gentle voice came through. “Wait in the car. I’m coming with you.”
“Okay.”
I managed one word, obedient.
He hung up.
My heart warmed, a shy flutter I didn’t know how to handle.
Sabrina smirked. “That’s the stench of love.”
No wonder I was falling-it was inevitable.

At the hotel entrance, Caleb had the car ready.
Sabrina and I slid into the back, no fussing over seats now.
Alpha Gideon appeared soon, heading straight for the front passenger seat.
“Where’s she at?” he asked.
“The Halcyon.”
I showed him the location on my phone.
He glanced, told Caleb to drive, and handed it back, saying, “You two track each other?”
I nodded. “Yeah, so we can find each other if we lose contact.”
Alpha Gideon smiled. “Real good friends.”
Maybe it was my imagination, but his kind tone didn’t sound like a compliment.
“Uh, yeah, we are,” I said, pocketing my phone.
Before turning away, Alpha Gideon eyed me appraisingly.
“You’re so worried about losing your friend, but not your boss?”
I froze.
He added, “Guess I’m not that important.”
I went quiet, then pursed my lips.
“Want me to track you too?”
