Chapter 98
It was Sabrina.
It’d been a while, but she was as sweet and magnetic as ever.
She waved at me, calling out, “Hey, darling, over here!”
Her sugary voice drew eyes, and heads turned toward me.

Everyone knew about the drama with the Blackwood and Quinn packs-way more than the average gossip
hound online.
Me climbing the ranks with Alpha Gideon of Hartley Group? That was big. T
hey’d love to cozy up to him too, but my feud with those packs made them wary.
No one wanted to cross the Blackwoods or Quinns
Staying neutral was the safest bet.

That was the crowd’s mindset: cozying up to Alpha Gideon didn’t need me as a middleman, but pissing off the Quinns? Just act chummy with me in public.
Sabrina didn’t care what they thought. Bunch of cowards.
Her world split into those she liked and those she didn’t.
“Sabrina!” I greeted warmly.
I murmured to Alpha Gideon that I’d be right back and headed over.
The crowd saw me step away and perked up, ready to swarm Alpha Gideon-a rare chance to catch him
socializing.
But he followed me, his voice low. “What’s the rush?”
I blinked innocently. Rush? I’m just chatting with a friend.
Alpha Giden added, “Am I some embarrassing boss you can’t be seen with?”
I cringed.
Alpha Gideon, we’re in public! Don’t say stuff like that!
People might think I’d put a spell on him.
Nearby wolves overheard, one dropping their glass in shock.
Scared a random bystander half to death.
Sabrina’s eyes widened.
He’s already glued to you?
I’d been confident, but Alpha Gideon’s antics made it feel like we were about to meet the in-laws, leaving me
awkwardly flustered.
I reached Sabrina
“Alpha Gideon!” Sabrina chirped, greeting him first.
He nodded, exchanging a few pleasantries.
I grabbed two drinks, handing one to Alpha Gideon.
Julian approached, and after a brief chat, he invited Alpha Gideon inside.
Before going, Alpha Gideon told Sabrina, “Look after her for me.”
“No worries, I’ll keep her safe and sound,” Sabrina said, grinning like a matchmaker.
Alpha Gideon walked off.
I felt the stares around me.
Sabrina linked arms with me, beaming with pride.

“Vivian, how’d you turn a side trail into a golf course? You’re playing in the big leagues!”
“Let’s talk outside,” I said.

“Sounds good!”
We stepped onto the terrace.
In the distance, I spotted two mutual friends of mine and Alpha Adrian’s. They raised their glasses with smiles but didn’t approach.
“They’re being generous,” Sabrina said, patting my hand.
“Without Alpha Gideon, you think you’d be neck-and-neck with the Blackwoods and Quinns? They’d ghost you
completely, and a smile? That’s them doing you a favor.”
She was right.
Without Alpha Gideon, they wouldn’t spare me a glance-ignoring me was already a courtesy.
“Riding his coattails,” I said with a laugh.
“These wolves are sharp,” Sabrina said, nodding toward a she-wolf in a silk top. “See her? Probably a Quinn
pack loyalist.”
I followed her gaze. Ruby.
“Her mate’s eating out of the Quinns’ hands. She’s gotta bark for them,” Sabrina whispered.
Ruby seemed to sense the attention, glancing back with an uneasy look.
We’d been on good terms before, but after Alpha Adrian’s affair with Vanessa, Ruby not only kept quiet but set me up at a club to overhear the betrayal.
Bark? Yeah, that fits.
Ruby stiffened and turned away.
I smirked, sipping my wine.
Sabrina and I settled at a small table on the terrace.
Soon, murmurs drifted from below.
“Alpha Gideon’s into her now, but for how long?”
“Exactly. Alpha Adrian defied his pack to be with her, all that ‘undying love,’ and he still strayed.”
“Alpha Gideon’s just caught up in the shiny new toy phase.”
“She’s dreaming if she thinks she’ll be the Hartley pack’s leading lady.”
“What family like the Hartleys would accept a she-wolf who’s unbound and stirred up all this drama?”
Wolves loved dragging others down to feel better.

I just smiled it off.

Sabrina, fuming, slammed the table and stood, ready to storm upstairs.
I yanked her back. “Let them talk. You gonna control their mouths?”
“Your chill is unreal,” Sabrina said, impressed.
We sat again.
I picked up my drink, only to hear more. “I heard she’s got Alpha Gideon wrapped around her finger, day and night, wearing him out till he’s drained!”
I nearly choked, coughing.
These rumors are getting ridiculous!
Furious, I started to stand, but Sabrina held me down, whispering,
“Let them talk. Their mouths, not ours.” She paused, then grinned curiously. “Is he actually worn out?”
“How would I know?!” I roared, exasperated.
Sabrina giggled, covering her mouth.
“Didn’t expect you two to keep it so… wholesome.”
“I’m there to work,” I said.
I didn’t realize I was that fierce.
“Come on,” Sabrina said.
“He’s jumped into your drama with the Blackwoods and Quinns multiple times, and he was all over you just
now. Hard not to assume.”
I gave up arguing.
Sabrina nudged me. “What’s with that face? Being linked to him isn’t exactly a loss.”
“Oh, I’m thrilled. Thinking of hanging a banner tomorrow!” I deadpanned.
Wolves drive you nuts eventually.
In the innermost room, Alpha Gideon asked, “They showed?”
“Naturally,” Julian replied. “Why else would I call you last-minute?”
Alpha Gideon smirked knowingly. “Thanks, Julian. I owe you one. Name your favor anytime.”
