Chapter 95
Alpha Gideon: “Tell her to break that habit.”
Me: “Fine, I’ll tell her.”
His ears were way too sharp.
Alpha Gideon kept walking, disappearing into his office.
I let out a heavy sigh.

Elliot stared at the closed office door, lost in thought, then turned to me with a sympathetic look.
“It’s not your fault. Sometimes wolves can’t control themselves-like they’re going through menopause or
something.”
My inner monologue: Control what?
Seeing my confusion, Elliot added, “Don’t worry, I’ve got your back.”
I blinked.
11:00 a.m.
I left the office, driving toward The Lunch Box near Helixon.
Traffic slowed me down, and I arrived around noon.
The restaurant owner greeted me with a smile.
“Erin’s in the private room over there.”
I headed in, wondering why two she-wolves needed a big private room.
As my hand reached for the door, a gut feeling made me pause, my expression thoughtful.
The door swung open.
“Vivian!” Erin appeared, pulling me inside.
I started to think I’d overreacted, but then someone stepped out from behind a screen.
Who else but Alpha Adrian?
“Ha, lunch invite? More like bait for Alpha Adrian,” I sneered, turning to leave.
Alpha Adrian stepped in front of me, blocking my path, and motioned for Erin to go.
Erin shot me an apologetic look, but I didn’t spare her a glance. Betrayers didn’t get a second look.
Erin ducked her head and hurried out.
“Move!” I snapped, my eyes icy with contempt and deep loathing.
If he’d cleanly broken our bond before, not caring how vile Vanessa was, admitting he’d strayed, I’d have

written off our nine years as feeding a dog and moved on, considering him dead.
Or if he’d stuck to his remorseful act, done a few decent things before we became unbound, I’d have let him
go without grudges.
But no-he betrayed me, played the devoted mate, then let Vanessa get pregnant.
He’d seen Vanessa’s cruelty firsthand, sat by her hospital bed, crying, repenting, making me think he might
actually regret it. But the second Vanessa was carrying his pup, he flipped.
“I just…” Alpha Adrian couldn’t meet my eyes. “I need to say a few things.”
My gaze cut like a blade.
“I don’t want to hear it. But since you’re in my face and won’t move, I’ll say this: we’re enemies now. Vanessa?
I’ll make sure she pays. As long as I’m in Cloud Pack, as long as I’m breathing, she’ll never walk free.”
I scoffed, my disdain clear.
“As for you? Keep living. Some wolves just get more ghostly the longer they exist.”
I stepped back, bypassing him toward the door.
It was locked.
“Vivian,” Alpha Adrian called, his voice raw, like it’d been scraped with glass.
“I thought I could control things, move forward, find what we had. But there’s no path left.”
“Open the door!” I kicked it, furious, ignoring his words.
Alpha Adrian approached, standing beside me.
This time, he skipped the self-pitying nonsense no one but him bought and got to the point.
“Write a forgiveness letter for Vanessa. From now on, she won’t bother you, and I won’t either.”
I froze, turning to stare at him, disbelief ringing in my ears. “What did you say?”
“She was just an accomplice in the kidnapping. With a forgiveness letter and her condition, we can keep her
out of jail.”
Slap!
My hand cracked across his face, leaving a red handprint. I was so angry I could barely breathe. “Don’t even
think about it. I’m not writing anything. I’ll make sure she rots in there!”
Alpha Adrian’s head stayed turned, the mark stark. He didn’t get mad, just faced me again.
“Wouldn’t it be better to settle this? You can’t win. You’ll only get hurt. Counting on Alpha Gideon? You’ll be let down. He’s just playing with you. Now that he’s had you, he won’t invest more.”
“And even if you don’t care about yourself, think of your parents, your grandma, your uncle.”
I stared at him, eyes reddening, backing away like he was some monstrous specter.

“You… you’re threatening my family?”
My voice trembled, my hands shaking.
I thought his betrayal was the worst he could do.
“Just agree,” Alpha Adrian said, swallowing his own pain.

I took deep, shuddering breaths.
My hands grasped for something-anything, even a twig-but I was surrounded by cliffs, teetering on the
edge.
“Open the door.”
A cool voice came from outside.
My mind reeled, like a sacred chime echoing.

Alpha Gideon stood there, with a stunned Elliot and a guilt-ridden Erin behind him.
Alpha Adrian turned, his eyes dead.
I looked too, my pale, despairing face exposed, my eyes blank, like a cornered beast in a wildfire.
“Locking the door for a lunch?” Alpha Gideon stepped in, moving behind me, steadying me as I swayed. “Still eating?”
I shook my head faintly.
His warm hand on my lower back grounded me.
I steadied myself and walked out.
“You okay?” Elliot asked softly, worried.
I shook my head again, drifting down the hallway.
Elliot followed.
Alpha Gideon’s cold gaze pinned Alpha Adrian, who looked like a walking corpse. “Takes a special kind of
wolf to sink this low.”
He turned, striding out, catching up to me in a few steps. He slung an arm over my shoulder.
I shrugged slightly. “I’m fine…”
He cut me off, looking down. “What, going for gold in the tough-guy contest?” His grip tightened.
