Chapter 93

Alpha Gideon’s clear eyes darkened, thick with intensity.

He recalled that midnight kiss, the craving it sparked-soft, sweet, like strawberry cake, so addictive he

couldn’t shake it.

Leaning closer, his lips hovered over my pink ones, then froze.

Reason wrestled with desire, torn between pulling back and diving in.

Time and air seemed to stop.

After an eternity, he sighed softly, drew back, and sank into his seat. He loosened his tie and chugged a tall

glass of ice water.

Behind him, I slept like a mannequin, my head tilted at an unnatural angle, like someone had posed me.

A minute later, my fingers twitched, curling slightly.

Ten minutes later, I yanked the blanket over my head, cocooning myself like a mummy.

My heart raced for a solid ten minutes, the aftershocks rippling through my chest. It felt like my body had dissolved, leaving only my pounding heart.

I was exhausted yet wired.

Tears welled in my mind.

He’d lingered there, debating, as if I wasn’t a living, breathing she-wolf who might wake up! I wasn’t some

fairy-tale princess waiting for a kiss to stir!

I’d wanted to open my eyes and end the torture.

This was no way to treat a person!

Calming down, I fretted: How long until that drug fully leaves his system?

The plane touched down in Cloud Pack.

I played freshly awake, though my weary, half-dead vibe made me look like I’d been through the wringer.

Alpha Gideon glanced at me. “Sleep well?”

I fussed with my hair. “Sorry, I was out cold. You didn’t call me, did you? I sleep like a rock-thunder wouldn’t

wake me.”

A shadow flickered in his eyes. “You’re awake now. Let’s go.”

He stood, leaving his seat.

I rose slowly, sweaty and drained from being wrapped in the blanket.

The flight attendant handed their luggage to Frank, who’d come to pick them up.

In the car, Frank grinned at me. “Trip go okay?”

My expression flickered, but I smiled. “Pretty smooth, I’d say.”

At least no one lost their dignity.

“Smooth’s good,” Frank said.

I caught Alpha Gideon in the rearview mirror, arms crossed, eyes closed, face unreadable.

I exhaled quietly

Back at the complex, we walked from the garage to the entrance. A tall figure popped out of nowhere,

startling me.

I swore I’d had more scares these past two days than a haunted house visit.

“You’re finally back!” Cassie said, phone in hand, looking frantic.

She nodded at Alpha Gideon and Frank in greeting.

I clutched my racing heart. “Why wait out here? You could’ve stayed home.”

“I’ve been waiting half the night! You said you’d be back by seven,” Cassie said, grabbing my suitcase and linking arms. “Come on, we need to talk.”

“About what?”

“Inside.”

I eyed Cassie’s odd expression, wondering what was up.

The four headed to the elevator.

Alpha Gideon led the way, Frank trailing, chatting with me and Cassie. “I made wontons-pine mushrooms, Kobe beef, snow crab legs, and a broth from free-range chicken and wild fungi. Super tasty. You two want

some?”

Cassie and I started to decline-late-night wontons sounded basic, and we had things to discuss.

But then we heard the ingredients.

Gotta eat those.

“I’m actually starving,” I said.

“Been craving wontons forever,” Cassie added.

“I made a ton. Dig in,” Frank said, beaming like a proud dad who loved feeding hungry pups.

Alpha Gideon shot us a look, like we were a pair of greedy she-wolves.

He stepped into the elevator, Cassie and I following, with Frank bringing up the rear, chatting warmly.

At the penthouse, Frank served the wontons.

The aroma alone promised heaven.

Alpha Gideon slid his bowl to me. “You said you were starving. Have mine too.”

His voice dripped with indulgence, laced with a teasing edge.

I froze.

Cassie’s eyes darted between us, her grin barely contained. When I didn’t respond, she jumped in. “Alpha Gideon’s willing to go hungry to keep you fed. Come on, eat!”

thought: Stop reading into it!

I pushed the bowl to the center. “Cassie, let’s split it. I can’t eat two.”

Cassie sighed, disappointed.

We dove in, the wontons so divine their souls nearly left their bodies.

Each bite, paired with a sip of broth, was pure bliss.

Cassie’s eyes watered. “This is the best wonton I’ve ever had.”

I ate silently, nibbling quickly like a hamster, as Cassie always teased.

We stuffed ourselves until we could barely move.

Frank handed us two containers.

“Take these for the fridge. Frozen’s not as good as fresh, but still beats store-bought.”

Cassie and I protested politely but snatched the containers up fast.

As we stood to leave, Alpha Gideon spoke. “Cassie, what were you gonna tell Vivian? Mind if I hear?”

Cassie hesitated. “Uh, well…”

“A secret?” Alpha Gideon pressed.

“Not exactly.”

She wavered, then figured he might need to know. “I went to the hospital today, posing as a nurse, trying to dig up proof Vanessa’s faking her illness. But I overheard the nurses say she’s pregnant.”

I went quiet.

Alpha Gideon let out a soft “oh,” like he’d pieced something together.

“And?” I prompted.

Cassie continued, “I dug deeper. The Blackwood pack’s been around a lot, probably discussing a binding ceremony. Normally, their drama’s got nothing to do with you, but if they team up, what if Alpha Adrian flips on everything he promised? He and Vanessa are thick as thieves now-who knows what lies they’ll spin? That’s bad news for you!”

“That dog Alpha Adrian!”

Cassie fumed. “Swearing he regretted everything, loved you, would never choose Vanessa. I almost bought it! And now, days later, he’s forming a sacred bond?”

I stayed calm. “His bonds or funerals don’t concern me.”

“What about Vanessa?” Cassie pressed.

“You gonna let her strut around smug? If they bind, they’ll target you in Cloud Pack, unless…”

She glanced at Alpha Gideon, ignoring my potential heart attack. “You form a sacred bond with Alpha Gideon and show those two up!”

My jaw dropped, stunned.
