Alpha Gideon’s eyes glinted with sharper mockery. “His wake-up call’s a bit late, don’t you think?”

Tristan shook his head, a wry, roguish grin spreading.

“Late? If there’s a hell, when they reunite, that mother and her two pups could tear his flesh off piece by piece, and it still wouldn’t be enough.”

Alpha Gideon leaned in.

“Why wait for a reunion? Why not give him a chance to confess now?”

Tristan froze.

Damn, Alpha Gideon, cold as ever.

They dove into talk about the Quinn pack and the Ashbourne pack, while I, listening from the side, caught only fragments.

I didn’t know much about Ydoria Pack or the Ashbourne pack, except that they were the top dogs there.

Lydia having those kinds of connections? That was news.

And Beatrice sounded like the evil stepmother from a fairy tale.

But if their cousinly bond was so tight, why hadn’t Lydia come begging sooner?

I hadn’t forgotten Damien’s groveling at the restaurant last week.

Alpha Gideon’s voice carried from the table.

“You might want to hold off. If Lydia’s here for Quinnvale ‘s mess, just bringing problems to the table won’t get

her a mountain of gold.”

“What could the Quinn pack even offer Beatrice?” Tristan scoffed.

“Depends on what Beatrice wants. If Lydia can’t hit her sweet spot, it’s a wasted trip. But if she pulls it off…” Alpha Gideon’s fingers rubbed together thoughtfully. “You’d better watch your back.”

Tristan’s face hardened.

Alpha Gideon added, “Something the Quinn pack can’t give might just be enough if the Blackwood pack’s

thrown in.”

“Aren’t those two packs at odds?” Tristan asked.

“You saying they can’t team up for a last-ditch survival play?”

Tristan’s brow furrowed.

A moment later, a frustrated laugh broke through, and he slumped back in his chair.

“Being born into the Ashbourne pack is a damn curse. Nine lifetimes of bad luck. I’m the one playing survival

games every day! This heir gig? Whoever wants it can have it-I don’t give a crap!”

Alpha Gideon nodded, deadpan.

“Yeah, I know. Your dream’s to go live like a savage in the Amazon.”

Tristan cracked up, kicking Alpha Gideon’s chair.

“You jerk! Holding onto something I said when I was six? That’s how much you love me!”

I tuned out as their banter turned flirty, refocusing on my melon slice.

The Blackwood pack and Quinn pack, teaming up?

I popped the fruit in my mouth, finishing the plate.

A sudden urge hit, and I slipped quietly to the private room’s bathroom.

Alpha Gideon noticed my move, chuckling at my tiptoeing like a sneaky pup.

“Your eyes are glued to her,”

Tristan teased, barely holding it together as Alpha Gideon stared at me heading to the bathroom.

Alpha Gideon looked away.

Tristan grinned. “You really into her?”

“Yeah,” Alpha Gideon admitted, then cut off the follow-up.

“I tried. She’s not into me.”

Tristan’s jaw dropped, then he stifled a laugh.

“Wait, you confessed? And got shot down? Vivian’s blind! You’re leagues above that Alpha Adrian guy. Don’t

sweat it-I’ll pay for her eye surgery. Once she’s fixed, she’ll see what a gem our sweet little Alpha Gideon is.

He leaned in, gleeful.

“This happening to you? I’m marking this day-June 10, Alpha Gideon got rejected. Spill the details. Was it brutal? You didn’t cry, did you?”

“Need to cry now? My shoulder’s free,” he taunted, reveling in the rare chance to rib him.

Alpha Gideon’s icy glare narrowed. “Keep talking, and I’ll cut your tongue out.”

When I emerged from the bathroom, the two had moved to the sofa.

Having been spun away by Alpha Gideon earlier, I now got a proper look at Tristan and offered a polite, “Hey,

Tristan.”

“Hey, Vivian,” he replied, flashing a dazzling grin and patting the seat beside him. “Come sit with me.”

Alpha Gideon’s glare could’ve frozen him solid.

I smiled, declining. “I’m good standing.”

“Standing’s exhausting. Sit,” Tristan insisted, waving me over.

“Alright,” I relented, but picked a spot near Alpha Gideon instead.

Tristan lounged back, legs crossed, radiating lazy charm. He eyed me with interest. “Don’t know why, but you feel like family, Vivian. How about I call you my little sister?”

I thought: How about you call me Grandma instead?

I bit back the snark. Building rapport with him could only help, and since he was Alpha Gideon’s friend, shutting him down would be rude.

“You’re too kind, Tristan,” I said, my smile polished.

“Then drop the ‘Tristan.’ Call me big brother.”

Before Alpha Gideon could intervene, I chirped, “Big brother.”

My teeth clenched behind a smile.

Alpha Gideon stared, dumbfounded.

“Sounds sweet, sis,” Tristan laughed, thrilled.

“Promise me, when you get a mate, bring him to me. I’ll hook him up with a gift.”

Alpha Gideon stayed silent.

It was 9 p.m. when we left the club.

Tristan tried dragging Alpha Gideon to his vineyard for more fun.

“I gotta get back to Cloud Pack,” Alpha Gideon said.

“Who’s waiting for you there that you’re in such a rush?”

Tristan slung an arm over his shoulder, leaning in. “Long night ahead, Alpha Gideon. Let me set up a cute, romantic little ‘accident’ for you two. Heat things up.”

“No thanks,” Alpha Gideon shot down.

“Confessing’s not enough! You gotta act to make her fall for you!”

Alpha Gideon smirked, saying nothing.

I, trailing behind, watched them arm-in-arm. Am I gonna have to call Alpha Gideon ‘sister-in-law’ someday?

No way, I can’t handle that!

How were two alpha wolves this perfect together?

Alpha Gideon shrugged off Tristan’s arm. “Not staying. Next time.”

Tristan didn’t push.

“Fine, I’ll hit Cloud Pack to hang next time.” He turned, winking at me with a roguish grin. “Sis, bring your mate

next time, yeah?”

I cringed. Why’d that sound so weird?

“Sure,” I replied with a stiff smile.

Alpha Gideon and I got in the car.

It was a trek to the airport, and by the time we boarded, it was midnight.

I felt like I’d slept less than a chicken and worked harder than a dog, drained physically and mentally.

On the plane, with nothing pressing, I sank into a seat in the back, closing my eyes for a quick nap.

“Vivian, you want something to eat?” Alpha Gideon asked.

No answer. When he turned, I was already out, slumped against the seat.

He stood, grabbed a blanket, and leaned over to drape it over me.

As he straightened, his gaze lingered on my soft, pink lips.
