Chapter 89
Alpha Gideon paused, then raised a brow.
“You plotting revenge or what?”
“No way, I swear!”
I clutched my chest, mock-anguished.
“I’m saving your hide! Who else would go this hard for you? You think hauling ice up here was a breeze? Alpha Gideon, that cuts deep!”
Alpha Gideon lifted an arm from the icy water, resting it on the tub’s edge.
“Well, thanks for being so devoted. Should I hand you the ‘Most Caring Assistant of the Year’ award?”
“Gimme the trophy, I’ll take it,” I shot back, unfazed.
Alpha Gideon stared, then burst into a laugh, half-exasperated, half-amused.
He’d been soaking for over an hour, his face practically translucent from the cold.
His “thoughtful” assistant had tossed in more ice mid-soak for good measure.
“I think I’m done,” he said, starting to stand.
“No way you’re getting out!”
I rushed over, bending to push his shoulders down, my face deadly serious.
“You might feel fine, but the drug’s just suppressed. It could come roaring back, stronger than before.”
Alpha Gideon sank back, expressionless.
“You ever consider this trick might not even work?” His voice carried a faint, dangerous edge.
“No chance it’s useless. You said you felt better, right? That means the drug’s fading.”
I patted his shoulder reassuringly.
“Hang in there, Alpha Gideon. Trust me, this works.”
As I stepped back, my wrist was caught, and a strong yank pulled me into the tub.
The shock of the icy water hit me like a slap, and I yelped,
“What the hell! It’s freezing!”
I flailed, trying to climb out.
Under the water, hands gripped my waist.
“Oh, now you know it’s cold?”
My teeth chattered as I shoved at his hands, pissed.

“Why’d you drag me in? Let go, I’m getting out!”
Alpha Gideon’s voice was low.
“Is it really that cold?”
“Duh, it’s ice water! Of course it’s cold!”
I needed out, now.
His grip tightened, pulling me closer.
“So, you think I’m cold?”
I froze mid-struggle, my eyes darting aside before meeting his.
“It’s different. You’re drugged-you need the ice to cool off. You probably don’t even feel the cold.”
“But if you’re really freezing, you can get out.”
“Look, I’m doing this for you, Alpha Gideon. You’re not gonna hold a grudge over this, right?”
Alpha Gideon gave a cold smirk, his misty, mountain-like eyes locked on mine.
My scalp prickled under his stare.
I was already chilled; now I was downright frosty.
Underwater, my leg cramped, forcing me to shift from sitting sideways to straddling him, face-to-face.
Alpha Gideon’s eyes widened slightly.
I froze, clawing at his hands. “I’m getting out!”
His grip on my waist tightened, like he’d snap me in half, his warm palms seeping through the icy water into my skin. His face inched closer.
“You’re right. I’ll tough it out. You’re staying with me.”
My heart pounded.
This guy was losing it again.
Whether from the cold or panic, I swore mist was rising around us.
In the haze, his soaked black robe clung to his chiseled chest, water droplets glistening with raw desire. The robe fanned out in the water like a dark lotus.
“Alpha Gideon, y-y-you can get up! Y-y-you really can!”
I pressed my hands against his chest, my face resolute despite my stuttering panic.
He wasn’t my problem anymore-I wasn’t playing antidote!
“Didn’t you say this works? I believe you.”

Alpha Gideon shifted, pinning me beneath him.
His icy lips exhaled scorching breath, hovering over my face.
I twisted hard, scrabbling for the tub’s edge to crawl out.
His broad, solid chest pressed against my back-not too far, just enough to trap me in the tub. “Vivian, why’re you crawling? You into that?”
My face flushed crimson.
I got it instantly.
This drug turned wolves into beasts!
An hour in ice water, and it still didn’t work?
“You’re not thinking straight! Chill out-you can’t ruin your rep! I’m innocent here!”
“I’m not big on reputation,” he murmured, his breath grazing my collarbone.
I was losing it.
I thrashed like I’d smash a hole in the tub.
Alpha Gideon hadn’t expected me to go feral.
He could barely hold me-I was slippery as a fish, hitting every trigger point as I squirmed. What started as controlled spiraled fast.
“Stop moving!”
His sharp command froze me.
We both went still.
I slumped against the tub, my face burning.
Behind me, his breathing was heavy.
The ice water warmed, almost steaming.
I didn’t dare look back or budge.
Staying still gave me a shot; moving might…
After what felt like forever, a weary, strained voice came from behind. “Got enough ice?”
“Plenty! I’ll grab more!”
I scrambled out, dripping wet, and somehow ended up in the kitchen, dazed.
I debated bolting from the villa.
After ten minutes of agonizing, I gritted my teeth, grabbed more ice, and headed upstairs.

My plan: drop the ice at the bathroom door, then lock myself in my room.
But when I got there, his door was locked.
Wait, shouldn’t I be the one locking doors and freaking out?
I stood there, ice in hand, drowning in confusion.
Morning came.
I woke at nine.
After last night, I’d lain awake, ears straining for sounds from Alpha Gideon’s room.
Half an hour of silence later, I’d taken a hot shower and collapsed, but sleep was fitful, only drifting off
around 6 a.m.
I dressed and tiptoed to his bedroom door.
My hand hovered to knock, then dropped. I pressed my ear to the wood, listening for any sign of life.
The door swung open.
