Alpha Adrian had Alpha Gideon’s number and WhatsApp.
Alpha Gideon hadn’t blocked him.
So, nursing a hangover that morning, he saw the post.
Strawberry mousse.
His eyes practically shot flames.
That brand, that flavor-Vivian’s favorite.
Then it hit him: they’d finalized the bond-breaking yesterday. She wasn’t his mate anymore. Their bond was
severed, gone forever.
His heart ached, hollow.
And now this damn cake stabbed him deeper.
She’d just broken their bond and was already cozying up to Alpha Gideon?
She lied yesterday!
Fury and bitterness surged.
He grabbed a burner number to call her, since she’d blocked him everywhere.
I sat in the passenger seat as the car rolled into Hartley’s underground garage.
My phone buzzed. I glanced at it-an unknown number.
Alpha Adrian again?
We’d broken our bond, and he’d seemed calm about it.
Surely he’d moved on, not still hounding me.
I answered. “Hello?”
“You swore to me!”
Alpha Adrian’s voice roared through the line.”
Vivian, you’re such a fake! You couldn’t even wait a day after breaking our bond to jump to the next wolf!”
His icy rage poured through the speaker.
I hung up, rubbing my forehead, exhausted.
I’d overestimated him. He was having another meltdown.
Alpha Gideon and Elliot had overheard Alpha Adrian’s outburst-especially the part about breaking the bond.
Elliot looked shocked.

Already unbound?
Alpha Gideon stayed cool, unfazed.
He’d known we’d gone to family court yesterday.
The car fell silent, awkwardness creeping in.
I turned to stare out the window.
Thankfully, we were in the garage. We got out quickly.
I followed Alpha Gideon into his private elevator, heading to the top floor.

Elliot took me to handle onboarding-grabbing my access card, giving me a tour of the department floors, executive levels, everything.

Since I’d be working with them, it was all part of the process.
His tour made it official: I was at Hartley
Word had spread that Alpha Gideon had snagged a stellar assistant through a headhunter.
Rumor had it I’d been a top staff at Helixon, Alpha Adrian’s mate, who’d left after their bond broke-and the headhunter had pounced to poach me.
Then the online drama exploded: Vivian vs. the Quinns and Blackwoods.
Alpha Gideon had tanked Quinnvale ‘s loan and called them out, making it clear who he was backing.
Impressive.
She’s got game.
She’d won Alpha Gideon over in no time.
The whole pack now saw me as some siren reincarnated.
But seeing me in person? They got it.
“Stunning” didn’t cover it-refined features, glowing skin, tall and slim with an hourglass figure that made my
business suit look like a fantasy uniform.
Who could resist that?
“Who said Alpha Gideon isn’t into wolves? His taste screams straight alpha,” one male employee whispered.
“Her mate let a goddess like that go for some young she-wolf? If that were me, I’d never leave the den after
work!” another added.
Two she-wolves nearby rolled their eyes.
“Gross, creepy wolves,” one muttered.
“Men always chase the new shiny thing, no matter how gorgeous their mate is,” the other said.

“Wolves are just ruled by their instincts!”
They tore into the guys.
The male employees shot back.
“If you hate wolves so much, stop swooning over Alpha Gideon. He’s a wolf too!”
The she-wolves smirked.
“Who’s swooning? I’m shipping him with Tristan. They’re the real deal.”
“Exactly. He’s just pitying Vivian. He’s got no interest in she-wolves.”
They got hyped.
The male employees were dumbfounded.
What’s wrong with she-wolves’ brains these days?
Elliot and I headed back upstairs.
He opened an office door. “This is yours. The assistant team used to be on this floor, but Alpha Gideon likes quiet, so they moved elsewhere. You met them earlier-you’ll be managing that team now.”
“Got it,” I said, scanning the office.
Spacious, stylishly decorated.
Elliot pointed.
“My office is on the other side of Alpha Gideon’s. Find me if you need anything.”
I smiled and nodded.
He left, then popped back in.
“Oh, one thing-this floor’s just the three of us. Alpha Gideon’s strict. No one gets into his office without permission, so we handle the small stuff too. It can be a grind.”
My smile turned forced. “Don’t tell me I’m vacuuming his office, too.”
Elliot looked guilty.
“Nah, you don’t have to vacuum. Frank handles that. We just brew his coffee, iron his suits, maybe wake him
up…”
“Hold up!” I raised a hand, my smile vanishing.
“Wake him up? Besides business trips, assistants work nine-to-five, not play nanny, right?”
Elliot hesitated. “Alpha Gideon takes naps.
I went quiet for a few seconds.
“Elliot, we need to talk roles. You’re his right-hand wolf; I’m his secretary. Secretaries handle business. His

personal stuff? That’s on you-his trusted aide. I’ll make office coffee, but waking him up? That’s too personal. You’re used to it anyway.”
I added, “You’ve got this.”
Elliot’s inner voice screamed: I’m not used to it!
Alpha Gideon had a temper when roused.
Wake me in an hour,” but try it? Either he didn’t budge, or he snapped awake in a foul mood.
Let him sleep, and he’d growl, “What’s the point of you?” Too early, too late-nothing was right, and he was
clueless about it.
“Look, no need to split hairs. We both work for Alpha Gideon-share the load. Whoever’s free handles it. Gotta
run!” Elliot bolted out the door.
I stared, dumbfounded. That’s just passing the buck!
No way. Waking him up was Elliot’s job.
I’d hash it out with him later.
Closing the door, I settled at my desk, stashed my bag and personal items, and booted up the computer, setting a password.
Five minutes later, Elliot sent the day’s schedule. I skimmed it.
Ding.
Another message from Elliot. I expected meeting prep for the 10:30 slot, but it was a detailed list of Alpha
Gideon’s preferences.
I raised a brow and opened it: coffee tastes, tea preferences, down to brewing steps-morning coffee beans, water temperature, post-nap green tea leaves, ice water after midnight overtime. On and on.
I didn’t read it all. There were more preferences below.
So, Elliot was dumping this on me?
I remembered a note: first coffee should be served before10:00.
What time was it?
10:01!
