Chapter70

She hung up and got to work.

They’d hired plenty of bots and influencers these past few days-now was the time to use them.

The video dropped and spread like wildfire.

Netizens went nuts, thrilled to see the “next episode” after days of waiting.

Alpha Gideon fanned the flames, using Hartley ‘s official account to drop a pointed jab: If anything happens

to her, Hartley will never work with Quinnvale pack again.

SCREECH-

The car slammed on its brakes, slowing down.

“Alpha Gideon!” Frank’s voice was low, panicked.

“That car up there! Is it-is it?”

Alpha Gideon peered through the windshield, locking eyes on the black sports car ahead.

It was just five or six meters away.

Same license plate.

“Don’t freak out. Keep tailing,” he said, his voice low and steady, radiating a calm that anchored the nerves.

“Got it,” Frank replied, steadying himself. He eased the car forward, matching the target’s pace.

Alpha Gideon tipped off Cassie about the suspicious vehicle, trusting her to relay it to the enforcers. He also

called Caleb in for backup.

They followed for about fifteen minutes until the car pulled into a gated villa complex.

Their car couldn’t get in.

“That’s Vivian’s old place!” Frank blurted, stunned.

Alpha Gideon’s gaze darkened as he watched the sports car disappear into the complex, a flicker of deeper

intent crossing his icy expression.

He grabbed his phone and dialed Alpha Adrian.

I stirred from unconsciousness, and the sharp, nauseating stench of gasoline hit me like a fist-clinging to

my clothes, my face, even my hair, an oily, cold film seeping into my skin.

I was propped against something soft, a couch maybe, my hands and feet bound tight with duct tape.

The room was pitch-black, but as my eyes adjusted, shapes emerged: the floor-to-ceiling windows ahead, the curved sectional sofa, two staggered round coffee tables, the eastward-facing doorframe-familiar, one after

another.

This was my living room.

No, more accurately, mine and Alpha Adrian’s.

I’d lived here for years.

Knew every scratch on the floor, every creak in the floorboards.

Who’d taken me? And why bring me here?

The memory of the attack flooded back-surreal, like a nightmare.

I’d thought I was careful, but I’d walked straight into a trap.

I struggled to stand, but my body wouldn’t budge.

My fingers felt limp, useless.

I tried to shout, but my mouth was taped shut, the plastic biting into my skin.

Click, click, click.

Crisp footsteps echoed from outside the living room.

A petite shadow stepped in, and even with her face hidden, I knew instantly who it was. Vanessa.

I froze, stopping my struggle.

The shadow sauntered over, plopping down beside me with an eerie familiarity, a lighter dangling from her fingers.

“I waited three whole days to corner you,” she said, her voice sickly sweet but laced with venom, slicing through the silence.

The high-end metal lighter flicked open and shut-clack, clack-flame dancing at her fingertips, flaring and fading.

Her pretty face flickered in the light, now illuminated, now swallowed by shadow.

That flame was hellfire.

One spark on the gasoline-soaked floor, and the room would erupt.

I’d go up in seconds, a fireball.

My heart raced as I stared at it, but my breathing slowed instinctively-survival kicking in, forcing calm.

“Scared?” Vanessa caught the flicker of fear in my eyes, grinning as she twirled the lighter above my head.

“Don’t be. It’ll only hurt a little when it catches. You’ll just look… ugly, that’s all. A charred husk. And Alpha Adrian? He’ll probably puke when he sees you like that. That’ll be his last memory of you-grotesque, revolting.”

She cackled, lost in the manic thrill of the image, her laughter sharp as broken glass.

My face stayed blank.

Vanessa’s laughter cut off abruptly.

She ripped the tape from my mouth, and I gasped as the plastic tore at my skin.

Then she grabbed my face, squeezing hard, her nails digging into my cheeks.

“Here’s the deal: bark like a dog. Call yourself a worthless mutt. Beg me-real nice. Maybe I’ll think about

letting you off.”

I met her gaze, cold and unflinching.

Not a word. No begging. No weakness.

I knew this psycho wouldn’t let me go.

I feared death, sure-but if it was inevitable, I wouldn’t be her plaything.

Vanessa’s eyes flared at my defiance.

She slapped me hard across the face, the sound cracking through the room.

My cheek burned, stinging like fire.

“Not begging, huh? Fine. I’ll have someone violate you first-then chop off your limbs, slice your flesh piece by

piece. Then burn you and this house to ash. How’s that sound?”

My cheek throbbed, but I said nothing.

Vanessa yanked my hair, jerking my face close.

“I’m giving you a chance to live, don’t you see? You should be grateful. Groveling. Bark like a dog-it won’t kill

you. Won’t cost you a thing. Or you’ll die. Horribly. Not even gonna think about it?”

I lifted my eyes, staring straight into hers.

“Murder’s a crime. You kill me, you’ll pay with your life. Worth it?”

Vanessa froze.

Her anger flared-she’d wanted barking, not this cool deflection.

Fury surged through her.
