Chapter 68
I didn’t let a flicker of alarm cross my face. I stayed reclined, playing possum.
After a while, the wolf finished his call and sauntered back to his car-parked diagonally across from mine.
He climbed in, cracked open a drink, and sipped it leisurely. Nothing seemed off.
Maybe it really was just a coincidence?
Leaving Cloud Pack at the same time three nights ago, now heading back at the same hour? Yeah, right. I
didn’t buy that kind of luck.
Half an hour passed. I didn’t budge, and neither did he. That sealed it.
Who sent this guy?A Quinn pack hitman?
If he was a killer, why hadn’t he made a move in three days?
Should I call the enforcers? But that would take time, and all I had was suspicion-no hard proof.
He could play innocent, claim he was just on the same route.
Cloud Pack was an hour away.
He’d tailed me this long without acting-maybe if I drove normally, pretending I hadn’t noticed, he’d hold off.
Decision made, I started the car and hit the road.
His car eased into motion, keeping a loose tail.
Sometimes he’d vanish from sight, only to reappear later.
If I hadn’t clocked him as a tail, I wouldn’t have given his car a second glance.
This guy was a pro.
The hour-long drive left my palms sweaty.
I didn’t relax until I hit Cloud Pack’s limits. Near my neighborhood, I gunned it.
“Damn, she’s onto me!” the wolf muttered from the car behind.
On the empty road, I blew through a red light. I zipped into my complex, leaving his car stuck outside the gate. I let out a long breath. Safe.
I pulled into the garage, parked, grabbed my bag, and called Cassie while walking, filling her in on the tail.
In the garage, another figure stepped out of a car-a wolf dressed artsy, in a wide-brimmed black hat that
shadowed his face. He moved slowly, silently, trailing me like a ghost, his steps eerily soundless.
I reached the security gate, scanning my face to enter, still talking to Cassie about the stalker.
Suddenly, a sharp gust of air hit me from behind.
Pain exploded at the base of my neck, and my vision went black.

My body crumpled, phone slipping from my hand.
The figure caught me, swift and nimble, snatching the phone mid-fall and ending the call. “Vivian? Why’d you stop talking?” Cassie called out, then realized the line was dead.
Dropped by accident?
She redialed.
It rang, but no answer.
I’d said I was in the garage-by now, I should be in the elevator.
The call rang out and cut off.
Something was wrong.
Cassie grabbed her keys and headed out.
Rewa
On the way, she dug up Alpha Gideon’s number-she’d shamelessly gotten it from him at that joint.
He lived in the same complex. He could check on me.
The phone rang for ten seconds before he picked up, his voice smooth and rich, like it could melt eardrums.
“Hello?”
No time for swooning or small talk, Cassie cut to the chase.
“Alpha Gideon, can you contact the property office? Vivian got to the complex a few minutes ago, but her call with me cut off mid-sentence, and now she’s not picking up.”
“Got it. I’ll check now.”
Before Cassie could thank him, he hung up.
Alpha Gideon was sitting with his parents, a tablet on the table littered with photos of she-wolves.
He stood, addressing them politely.
“I’ve got something to handle. I’m fine with whatever you decide-just let me know.”
With that, he strode out.
Charles and Catherine exchanged a glance.
Once he was gone, Catherine spoke up.
“That sounded like a she-wolf’s voice.”
“Don’t get your hopes up just because it’s a female,” Charles said.
“Did you see his face? Cold as ice. Looked like he was into her?”
“Maybe if they spend enough time together, something could spark,” Catherine mused.

“You thought he was into Camilla, too. You sent him to Shaloria to give them a shot, and now Camilla’s crying
to me all the time.”
Catherine muttered, half to herself,
“What if our son really prefers wolves?”
Her voice trembled with worry.
“You know, I ran into that Ashbourne pup at my family’s pack. He said Alpha Gideon loves hanging out with him. Last winter, they spent ten days traveling together!”
Charles frowned. “What’s wrong with that?”
Catherine’s face flushed, struggling to explain.
“That… that pup, he… he’s into wolves. Word is, he’s got a thing for pretty, athletic types-and he’s, you know,
the one on top.”
Charles’s eyes widened in horror.
His son’s chiseled, model-worthy face flashed in his mind.
His son… with a wolf? No way.
Charles’s vision darkened, then darkened again.
“Now you get why I’m freaking out,” Catherine said.
“I don’t care who the she-wolf is-alive, breathing, someone he can stand. Anything’s better than… you know.”
Charles clutched his chest.
“Stop. Just stop. My heart can’t take this.”
Outside, Alpha Gideon’s face was grim as he made calls.
First, he reached the property office, explaining the situation.
They promised to check the cameras and send someone over.
Then he called Caleb Morgan, the wolf he’d tasked with watching me.
“She got cut off mid-call with a friend in the garage. Check it out.”
“On it,” Caleb said, starting his car.
“I saw her pull in about ten minutes ago. I stopped tailing her near the complex. There was another guy- some idiot who blew his cover at a rest stop. Vivian was on edge the whole drive, but he didn’t get into the
complex.”
Alpha Gideon stayed silent.
He had a hunch who sent that idiot. “Find her. Now.”

He hung up, got in his car, and Frank closed the door behind him before sliding into the driver’s seat.
“She made it to the complex-how’s she unreachable? Our security’s tight.”
“Tight for outsiders, not residents,” Alpha Gideon said.
“What if it’s someone who lives here?”
“Who could-”
“Alpha Adrian bought a place in the complex to get access. I gave Caleb clearance too. If someone wants in,
they’ll find a way.”
Frank nodded, realization dawning.
In the complex’s garage, Caleb pulled in.
A black sports car sped past, brushing by him as it exited.
