Chapter59
Alpha Adrian’s eyes slid to Alpha Gideon.
“What’s with you, Alpha Gideon, always sniffing around another wolf’s mate? Didn’t know she was taken?”
Cassie had enough. “Alpha Adrian, stop acting like a rabid dog, biting everyone. Alpha Gideon was just helping her out.”
Alpha Adrian turned to her.
“Didn’t you text that if he’s not into her, you’d eat dirt upside down? Ready to chow down?”
Cassie and I cringed, mortified.
We’d never dreamed our private chat would reach Alpha Gideon’s ears like this.
Then Alpha Gideon let out a soft, disarming laugh.
“Whether I’m interested in Vivian or not is my business, not hers. If my actions today upset you, Alpha Adrian,
I can only apologize. But legal mate or not, doing something against a she-wolf’s will? That’s low-class.
Alpha Adrian’s anger caught in his throat, his fist clenching.
“Waiter,” Alpha Gideon called.
The diner’s she-wolf owner nudged her mate aside, hurrying over.
“What do you need, handsome?”
Alpha Gideon smiled.
“We got caught up talking, and the burgers went cold. Take these back and bring four new ones.” He glanced
at Cassie. “Extra bacon for this she-wolf.”
Cassie swooned, dazed by his charm.
The owner grinned. “You got it.”
Soon, four steaming burgers arrived.
Alpha Adrian was too pissed to eat.
1, my emotions a mess, managed half a burger.
Cassie, stealing glances at Alpha Gideon, nibbled only the bacon, ignoring the bun, floating in a fangirl haze.
Alpha Gideon, unfazed, finished his burger methodically, then wiped his mouth with a napkin.
“You’re all wasting food.”
“No! I’m not done!” Cassie dove in, slurping down the soda and letting out a satisfied burp.
“Cassie,” I said, worried, passing her a napkin.
Cassie skipped breakfast, stayed up late on case files, and had a weak stomach-eating too much could

make her sick.
Cassie waved her off. “I’m fine. Can’t waste food, right? Alpha Adrian, eat up!”
Alpha Adrian shot her a cold smirk.
I started to get up to pay, but Cassie pushed me back down. “You’re not leaving food either.”
I sighed, picking up my burger to finish it, joining Cassie’s “clean plate” mission.
Cassie was clearly smitten, lost in Alpha Gideon’s spell.

Not that I blamed her-who could resist those piercing eyes and that voice, smooth as honey, saying “extra
bacon” like it was a love potion?
Even the diner’s she-wolf owner seemed flustered.
Cassie tried to nudge Alpha Adrian to eat, but his death glares shut her down.
She didn’t push.
Outside the diner, I leaned on Cassie for support.
Alpha Adrian muscled in, shoving Cassie aside to take my arm.
“Enough already!” I yanked my hand free, hissing under my breath.
Alpha Adrian’s voice was low. “Don’t tell me you’re leaving with Alpha Gideon?”
“Who I go with is none of your business. We signed the papers to break the bond. You dragging your feet on
the final step is your problem. As far as I’m concerned, we’re done!”
I shook him off again.
Alpha Adrian grabbed my wrist. “I’m not done.”
Alpha Gideon, standing in the night’s shadow, clicked his tongue.
“I can’t hear this dialogue a third time.”
Cassie groaned.
“If this were a novel, it’d be padding the word count. One says ‘break it,’ the other says ‘no,’ looping forever.”
Alpha Gideon shook his head, exasperated.
After a beat, he said, “Here’s the plan: I’ll take Alpha Adrian. You take Vivian.”
Cassie nodded eagerly, then looked up at him, struck by how tall he was. At five-foot-seven, she had to crane her neck. Being held by him must feel like a fortress.
Her eyes sparkled with mischief, her voice turning coy.
“Alpha Gideon, if you and Vivian don’t work out, what about me?”
Alpha Gideon tilted his head.

“Oh, I’m not into she-wolves.”
His tone was so casual, like someone asking if he wanted fruit and him saying no.
Cassie’s jaw dropped.
Vivian was right? Did he prefer wolves?
Alpha Gideon ignored her, striding toward the deadlocked duo.
He slung an arm around Alpha Adrian’s shoulder, like soothing a tantrum-throwing pup.
“I’m not taking her. I’m taking you. Cool?”
Alpha Adrian froze.
“Your car’s out of gas, and it’s too late to call a ride. As for breaking the bond or not, you can hash it out another day. Won’t change the outcome.”
Alpha Gideon nudged him toward his car.
He stood a bit taller than Alpha Adrian, his cool elegance contrasting Alpha Adrian’s rugged charm.
Alpha Adrian brushed off Alpha Gideon’s arm, turning to stop me, but Alpha Gideon held him back.
In that moment, Cassie’s car pulled up, and I climbed in.
“Vivian!”
Alpha Adrian roared as the car sped off.
He wasn’t mad I left with Cassie-he was furious I’d slipped through his grasp again.
Alpha Gideon patted his shoulder.
“Alpha Adrian, don’t wake the pack at this hour. Let’s go.”
Alpha Adrian shot him a venomous glare, like he wanted to rip him apart.
Past 3 AM, Cassie and I reached the Cloud Pack.
I crashed at Cassie’s place, wrapping my slightly reopened wound with gauze and taking a quick shower.
The second my head hit the pillow, I was out.
I woke at noon the next day.
Cassie was already gone, leaving a note under a takeout breakfast:
No running around today. Stay put. I’ll be back to feed you.
My chest warmed.
Cassie, who skipped her own breakfasts, never forgot mine.
I unpacked the food, turned on the TV, and flipped to a random family drama.

When it hit a mother-in-law vs. daughter-in-law showdown, my thoughts drifted to Evelyn and Vanessa.
Last night, they’d shown up at the Blackwood together.
Had Evelyn already forgotten being thrown under the bus?
She wasn’t a genius, but she wasn’t that dumb.
Did she really want a she-wolf like Vanessa as a daughter-in-law?
