Chapter58

Cassie’s response exploded:

“What?! Alpha Gideon?! He came for you? The boss going this hard for an employee?”

I replied: “Because I’m a star worker.”

Cassie: “One more big win, and he’ll have to pledge himself to you.”

I rolled my eyes.

Cassie: “With perks like this? Screw lawyering. Ask if he’s hiring.”

I sighed.

Cassie: “If he’s not into you, I’ll eat dirt upside down.”

I went quiet, then typed: “Don’t eat that gross stuff. Believe it or not, he’s just a good wolf who likes saving

people. Also, he’s not into she-wolves anymore.”

Cassie sent a string of question marks.

I ignored them, kicking myself for that last message.

Whether Alpha Gideon’s claim about not liking she-wolves was true or not, it was his secret to share. Spreading it felt wrong.

Alpha Gideon noticed my troubled expression. “Something wrong?”

“Nope, all good,” I said, tucking my phone against my chest.

He squinted at my guilty look but said nothing.

Meanwhile, Alpha Adrian returned with a bag of snacks, only to find the car empty and the trunk hanging open. Furious, he hurled the bag to the ground.

Wasn’t she in a wheelchair today? Her leg still hurt, right?

But even if she could walk, she couldn’t have gone far.

Then it hit him-she might be in danger.

Wild dogs, boars, or worse, that wolf from earlier.

She’d probably gone the opposite way.

He sprinted after her, despite the nearly fifty minutes he’d wasted coming and going.

Running down the road, he almost got hit by Cassie’s car.

She slammed on the brakes, cursing. “You trying to get yourself killed, running around in the dark like—”

She stopped, recognizing him.

Alpha Adrian froze, then rushed to her passenger door and wrenched it open

Empty. He checked the backseat.

“Where’s Vivian?”

“How should I know? I’m just passing through,” Cassie said.

“Cut the crap. Where is she?”

“Alpha Adrian, I really don’t know. I’m headed home-I’ve got court tomorrow,” she said, yawning, looking

exhausted.

She climbed back into her car.

To her shock, Alpha Adrian climbed in after her, buckling his seatbelt like he owned the place.

Cassie gaped. “What, this your car now? Am I your driver? Get out!”

Alpha Adrian didn’t budge, arms crossed, cold as ice.

Cassie was outmatched.

She couldn’t fight him, and she couldn’t outargue him.

Sighing, she buckled her seatbelt.

“Fine, don’t believe me? Sit there and watch-see if I’m picking up your ex-mate.”

The words “ex-mate” made Alpha Adrian’s eyes flash with frost.

Cassie felt a twinge of fear but started driving, focusing on the road.

If he wanted to waste time in her car, let him.

Twenty minutes later, with no sign of stopping, Alpha Adrian’s frown deepened.

Then Cassie’s phone pinged with a message.

She unlocked it with face ID, but before she could read it, a hand with sharp knuckles snatched it away.

“Alpha Adrian, give me my phone!”

Cassie snapped.

Too late.

Alpha Adrian was already in her WhatsApp, reading the latest message.

I was at a shop in a nearby small pack, waiting.

He didn’t stop there-he scrolled up, reading our earlier messages.

His veins bulged, his grip tightening like he might crush the phone.

Alpha Gideon had taken me.

Even Cassie could see his intentions weren’t pure, yet I still claimed they were “just friends.”

His rage could’ve set Cassie’s car on fire, but he typed a quick “Good,” set the shop as the destination, and

told Cassie to drive.

“Do it right, or I’ll toss you out and take the wheel,” he growled.

Cassie cursed inwardly.

His mood teetered on unhinged, so she complied-she wanted to live, after all.

I had no idea Cassie would run into Alpha Adrian, let alone get “hijacked.”

One message, and my location was blown.

My stomach had started growling not long after we got in Alpha Gideon’s car, so he’d pulled into a small pack. Most restaurants were closed at this hour, but a barbecue stall and a shop were still open.

I texted Cassie to join me, figuring my friend probably hadn’t eaten dinner either.

Alpha Gideon gave a knowing smile. “Still got a bit of a heart in there.”

I blinked. “Huh? Oh, yeah. Alpha Gideon, do you like spicy food?”

I caught myself quickly, pivoting smoothly, but Alpha Gideon noticed the flicker of confusion in my eyes-he’d

assumed the order was for him.

“Be honest. Was that order for me?”

“Of course! Who else would it be for?”

Ugh. It was like a gift meant for someone else, suddenly claimed by the boss. What could I do? Take it back and say, “Nope, not for you”?

Alpha Gideon eyed me, my earnest face masking obvious fibs, and let out a soft scoff.

“Vivian, you’re wasting your talent not acting.”

My face flushed red.

I threw up my hands. “Fine, it was for Cassie.”

Alpha Gideon said nothing more.

The food arrived. He didn’t touch his.

I was genuinely starving, but with him sitting across from me, giving me that “you heartless, fake she-wolf”

stare, how could I dig in?

Outside, Cassie’s car pulled up.

I spotted it through the glass door and waved, expecting to see my friend in her white tracksuit step out.

My smile froze when I saw who climbed out of the passenger side.

Alpha Gideon noticed my expression shift and glanced back.

His gaze flicked from my face to my hands.

Then he smirked, grabbed my hand, and pulled my bowl toward him.

He twirled some noodles with a fork and took a bite. “Starving and sneaking off to eat noodles? Could’ve told

me.”

My lips twitched into a dry grimace.
