Chapter 20
Bang!
The door slammed open.
The syringe poised above my thigh froze.

The roomful of creeps turned, panic–stricken, toward the entrance.
Before they could bolt, black–clad security swarmed in, pinning them to the floor and dragging them out like dead dogs.
The scene was chaos–shrieks, howls, and a few dropped towels exposing bare asses, a sight that burned the eyes.
The security team moved fast, clearing the room in seconds. No one dared glance at the bed.
A female hotel manager rushed in, draping a coat over me, untying my bound wrists, and checking my condition before stepping out to report.
Outside, Alpha Gideon’s voice cut through the noise, ice–cold. “How is she?”
“She’s okay–luckily, we got here in time,” the manager said. “She’s shaken, maybe disoriented, probably from
fear.”
Alpha Gideon strode into the room.
It was silent.
On the bed, I huddled under his coat, my long hair a tangled cascade.
My face was ghostly pale, blood seeping from my lip where I’d bitten down, my body trembling–a rose
crushed in a blizzard, hauntingly broken.
He leaned down, his fingertips brushing my cheek.
My soft skin pressed into his palm, nuzzling closer, seeking warmth, safety.
Alpha Gideon froze.
He started to pull away, but my eyes fluttered open, shifting from dazed to pleading, like a wounded deer in
the forest, barely clinging to life.
His heart stirred.
He gently touched my head. “You’re safe now. No one’s gonna hurt you.”
I let out a sob, tears spilling like beads into his hand.
“Don’t cry…” Alpha Gideon, unused to comforting, fumbled.
But the more he tried, the harder I wept, my cries wrenching, as if I could purge all the fear and rage through
tears.

My sobs carried outside, where Frank stood, heart heavy.
He turned to the manager.
“Not a word of this leaves the hotel. If it gets out, we’ll assume it’s you.”
The manager nodded frantically.

She couldn’t afford to cross a powerhouse like Alpha Gideon, especially when this happened on their turf. They were lucky he wasn’t suing.
Alpha Gideon carried me out through a side exit, his arms firm, steady.
On the way to the hospital, I kept crying, tears flooding in waves, soaking his shirt.
He was at a loss.
But he couldn’t leave me alone in this state.
He held me on his lap, letting me burrow into his chest, tears and snot smearing his shirt.
I cried for over half an hour.
He burned through an entire pack of tissues wiping my face.
Finally, I quieted, resting against his shoulder, eyes closed, seemingly asleep.
At a turn, my face tilted forward, my lips grazing his throat.
Alpha Gideon held his breath, calmly pushing my head back.
At the hospital, Frank gaped. “Alpha Gideon, your face is red. You hot?”
“Mind your own business,” Alpha Gideon shot back, glaring.
Frank blinked, confused. Why’s he mad?
They’d called ahead to a private hospital.
Nurses were waiting, whisking me off for tests as soon as we arrived.
Past midnight.
In the hospital room, I stirred from my haze, the antiseptic smell sharp in my nose.
Turning my head, I saw Alpha Gideon by my bed, his shirt wrinkled, sleeves rolled up, collar unbuttoned like he’d just run a marathon.
“Alpha Gideon,” I croaked, voice hoarse, nose stuffed.
“Remember what happened?” he asked.
“…Yeah.”
I gave a bitter smile.

From the attack to his rescue, I’d been dazed but not fully out.
“Thank you. Really. I can’t thank you enough.”
Without him, I might not have survived.
Alpha Gideon studied me, his gaze deep.

“Good news and bad news. Which first?”
“Both.”
“Good news: you weren’t assaulted, and the syringe didn’t touch you. The drug in the corridor was just a
sedative–no lasting harm. Bad news…” He paused.
“Your mate set this up.”
“I know…” My eyes dropped, my hands clenching the blanket, nails digging into the fabric.
Alpha Gideon didn’t comment on my feelings.
“I bear some responsibility for you being there. The wolves involved are in custody. You want to go to the
enforcers or handle it privately, I can help once more.”
“You’ve already done so much,” I said, meeting his eyes. “I’ll take it from here.”
“You sure you don’t need help?”
“I owe you big already. I can’t keep racking up debts I can’t pay.”
He chuckled softly, amused.
My phone buzzed on the table.
He handed it to me.
It was my dad, Richard Hart.
My parents were worried. I was grown, but still their pup.
Clearing my throat, I answered. “Dad.”
“Where are you?”
“With friends at a club.”
“Come home. Your mom won’t sleep–she’s worried.”
“On my way,”
Hanging up, my heart ached. If tonight’s horror had happened, my parents would’ve been devastated.
I turned to Alpha Gideon. “Can you get me home?”
He paused. “Looking like this? Your parents won’t notice?”

I forced a laugh. “If I don’t go, my mom won’t sleep. Gotta….” My eyes reddened, tears threatening again.

I took a deep breath, swallowing the lump in my throat. To cover my embarrassment, I added, “Weird, why do I
wanna cry again? So humiliating.”
“Cry if you need to. I’ve seen it all night–what’s one more?” he teased, a faint warmth in his voice.
Alpha Gideon had someone drive me to my parents‘ place.
I applied makeup to hide the marks on my wrists, then played drunk, chatting briefly before claiming
exhaustion and heading to bed.
My parents, relieved to see me, relaxed.
In my room, I washed my face and called Cassie.
“Cassie, no quiet ending with Alpha Adrian. I’m gonna make him pay.”
Cassie, half–asleep, snapped awake.
“What happened?”
