Chapter108
“Really?”
My expression flickered between tears and a smile.
“But they say the worse the wolf, the longer they live.”
Gideon glanced at me.
“You gonna believe them or me?”
I didn’t hesitate. “You.”
His words carried a weight that made you trust him.

Gideon eased off the gas, glancing at me again, a slight smile curling his lips, his voice softening. “Good.
Just trust me.”
Those words hit like a charm.
My chest warmed, like I’d just been anointed as his disciple.
Believing the boss isn’t… possession, right?
I peeked out the window, recognizing the route to the office.
“Uh, just drop me off on the side up ahead. I’ll walk in.”
Gideon raised an eyebrow. “What, embarrassed to roll up to work with me?”
I was speechless.
“Your bridge–burning skills are leveling up.”
“…Okay, my bad, I take it back!” I surrendered.
In the end, the car didn’t stop curbside–it pulled straight into the pack office garage.
I stayed on high alert the whole time.
It wasn’t just the fear of gossip–I felt like a thief sneaking in.
Thinking no one had spotted us, I stepped out of the passenger side, putting on a cool, composed front. But at the same moment, someone got out of a car two spaces over.
Our eyes met.
“…Julian.”
My smile was as stiff as if I’d bitten into raw ginger.
Julian started to respond, but when he saw who stepped out of the driver’s seat, his face twisted in panic.
I caught the old wolf glancing between me and Gideon, his expression screaming, This vixen’s gonna ruin my alpha!

By noon, the office would be buzzing with rumors: Vivian’s got Gideon driving her around. Vivian’s climbed the
ranks. Gideon’s blindly spoiling Vivian.
Ugh.
I sighed heavily in my head.
In the elevator, Julian grinned slyly. “Vivian, you and Gideon carpooling now?”
I hurried to explain, “We live in-”
Before I could finish, Gideon cut in, cool as ice. “Do we owe you a report on whether we’re sharing a den?”
Julian’s eyes nearly popped out. …They’re living together?!
My jaw dropped, stunned.
What? Why’s Gideon starting rumors himself?
I rushed to clarify. “Julian, don’t get it twisted. We’re just in the same complex, not shacking up.”
Julian nodded, “Oh, sure, sure.”
But in his head: No need to explain. Gideon said it, so you’re either living together or sleeping together! Vixen,
total vixen!
I was speechless.
I tried to keep explaining, but then I saw the old wolf typing on his phone.
I stole a glance–he was texting Charles.
Oh, come on!
He was ratting me out to Charles!
“Julian!” I barked in his ear, annoyed.
The old wolf jumped, pocketing his phone just as the elevator hit his floor. He bolted.
I stepped forward, ready to chase him down and set things straight before this got out of hand.
My foot barely lifted when Gideon yanked me back. “Where you going? Our floor’s not here.”
The doors closed.
I groaned, “He’s texting Charles!”
“You think this is his first rodeo?”
I was speechless.
“This time’s special, though. He’s got ‘proof.“”
I was speechless.

You’re the one who gave him the proof!
I stepped out of the elevator feeling like I’d aged a decade.

Gideon patted my shoulder. “Don’t stress. If it gets out of hand and you can’t fix it, I’ll handle it.”
I didn’t ask how he’d handle it.
It felt… like a trap.
Back at my desk, I rubbed my temples.
If Charles has heard the rumors before and hasn’t called me in, he probably doesn’t buy it.
Afternoon rolled around.
No summons from Charles, but Margaret called.
Her voice was warm, refined, every word dripping with class.
After some polite small talk, she got to the point.
“Vivian, you free tonight?”
I checked my schedule. “No plans.”
“Then add one,” Margaret said.
“Tell him I’ve set up a bonding date for him tonight. I’ll send you the time and place–give him a head:
“Got it, Margaret,” I replied.
Here it comes.
Charles and the others were taking the rumors seriously now.
I hung up and headed to Gideon’s office.
No answer when I knocked. Then I remembered it was his nap time and went back to my desk.
When the hour was right, I called Elliot to check if Gideon was up.
Elliot groaned over the phone. “I’m screwed–I’m out right now. You’re gonna have to wake him.”
I froze. “What?! Don’t mess with me, Elliot!”
Elliot picked up on my panic. “…Just watch yourself.”
We fell silent.
I approached Gideon’s office like I was defusing a bomb.
This was only my second time waking him from a nap since the Shaloria fiasco. That first time was… a winding road, to say the least.
But thinking of Elliot dealing with this daily, I calmed down.

What’s the big deal? Last night was scarier, and we survived.
I pushed open the rest room door, planning to call him awake from a safe distance.
Then I saw… earplugs!
Is he blocking everyone out on purpose?

I sighed, pitying Elliot’s years of struggle, and leaned over to pluck out an earplug, setting it aside.
Learning from last time’s disaster, I kept my distance from his face and shouted, “Gideon, wake up!”
No response.
Gideon, that sleeping beauty, stayed out cold.
I was sure my volume could’ve woken the next room over.
My boss? Still snoozing.
Can someone sleep that deep?
I tried again, louder, twice.
Nothing. He’s gotta be faking it.
I scanned the room.
My eyes landed on a tie pin by the bed.
Should I… poke him?
Would I get fired for that?
