The Alpha Regretted Having An Affair
Chapter100
Gideon gave me a faint smile.
“No need to force it if it’s too much.”

I stayed quiet, my throat feeling tight. After a deep breath to steady myself, I tried again, voice small but
clear:
“Boss, I want to track your location because you mean a lot to me.”
There. Was that good enough? Happy now, huh, big shot?
Gideon’s smile finally warmed–full, genuine, like the tension in the air had melted away. “I can tell you mean
it.”
He pulled out his phone, unlocked it, and handed it over.
I took it silently, head bowed as my fingers moved across the screen, focusing on the task to hide the heat in my cheeks.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Sabrina off to the side, hands cupped around her face, practically squealing with excitement. He’s so into her, totally smitten! her silent glee practically screamed.
Caleb, with his sharp, chiseled features, watched Gideon’s silly grin.
I could almost hear his thoughts: That’s how a wolf rolls–say it, do it, no shame in the game!
Once I’d set up the two–way tracking, I handed the phone back with both hands, still avoiding Gideon’s gaze a
little.
He took it, slipped it into his pocket, and his tone softened.
“Since you’re being so real with me, if you ever hit a rough patch in life, just say the word. We’re all about heart–for–heart, right?”
“…Right.”
I nodded, not sure what else to say. What could I say?
Gideon turned back, settling into his seat.
Sabrina later swore even the back of his head radiated smug satisfaction, and Caleb shot him a look that was practically blind hero–worship.
Me? I just chewed my nails, anxiety creeping in.
These two were so caught up in the drama, they’d clearly forgotten why we were even here! If I asked Sabrina right now what the plan was, she’d probably blink and mumble something about “heart–for–heart” or “reality show taping.”
The Halcyon was a bit of
drive from the hotel.

When I’d said, “Can we hurry?”

Caleb had turned a thirty–minute trip into fifteen–even with traffic lights slowing him down. He could’ve gone
faster, and honestly?
I wished he hadn’t.
That final drift had me and Sabrina going pale–ghosts would’ve been spooked by our faces. Caleb grinned, glancing back. “Fast enough?”
I clapped a hand over my mouth, legs wobbly as I stumbled out of the car to throw up. Sabrina swatted at him with her purse, voice sharp but sweet:
“You trying to kill us?!”
Caleb dodged, but Gideon shot him a cold glare.
He flicked a finger, smacking Caleb’s forehead.
“She said ‘hurry,‘ not ‘fly.‘ Pay the speeding ticket yourself.”
Then he grabbed a water bottle, got out, and handed it to me as I crouched by the curb.
“I’m fine, I’m fine,”
I mumbled, rinsing my mouth quickly. No time to waste–I headed straight into the building
It wasn’t tall, maybe twenty floors, and looked old, run–down. Inside, it was practically deserted, with, only a handful of shops dotted among empty storefronts. The tracker had only gotten us to the building itself; we still had to find exactly where our target was.
First stop: the building manager. A chubby wolf, past his prime, who looked like he’d seen his fair share of trouble.
Caleb strolled over, flashing a grin and offering a cigarette. “Lost my wallet,” he lied smoothly. “Mind if we check the security footage?”
The manager glanced at him, then at me and Gideon–three sharply dressed wolves who clearly didn’t belong here. You expect me to believe you lot come here to hang out? his look said.
“Level with me,” he said, standing his ground.
“What are you really here for? No straight answer, no dice.”
“Looking for someone,” Caleb said, cracking his neck.
With his muscular frame and inked arms, his face hardening into a scowl, he looked every bit the rogue wolf -intimidating, unyielding.
The manager blinked, then sighed.
“…Right this way.”
His pudgy frame suddenly moved with surprising agility.

He led us to the security room–no guard in sight, just a dim, dusty space filled with old monitors.
“Uh, just so you know,” he said, fidgeting a little, “this place doesn’t get much foot traffic. Some of the cameras are busted, haven’t been fixed.”
That sounded bad.
But when we saw the screens?
It was worse than bad–it was a disaster.
Most of the cameras were dark, dead.
Worst of all, the one by the first–floor elevator?
Completely toast.
No feed, no way to track who’d come or gone that way.
We dug through the few working feeds, squinting at grainy footage, until finally–there. Cassie’s shadow, fleeting, near a shuttered shop before she vanished around a corner.
At least that proved she was here.
A small win, but better than nothing.
“We’ll have to search floor by floor,”
Caleb suggested, rolling his shoulders like it was no big deal.
“Twenty–one floors ain’t much. Split up, we’ll cover it quick.”
“No way. No one goes alone,”
Gideon snapped, shutting him down hard. His tone left no room for argument.
I nodded, my stomach tight.
I’d been burned too many times before–going solo was a death sentence. If something went wrong, you’d be too busy fighting to save your own hide to call for help, let alone get it. No way I was letting anyone split off. Gideon turned back to the manager, his voice steady but sharp as he asked about the building’s layout. Then he dropped a line about a hefty reward if we found our target fast. The manager’s eyes lit up instantly–like a lightbulb switching on.
He spilled everything after that.
The upper floors used to be offices, he said, but now only a few small businesses hung on by a thread. Some floors had rental apartments, but barely anyone lived there–most units were empty, collecting dust. He even named the handful of companies and tenants, reciting their floor numbers like he’d memorized a list. That was all he had, though–no other clues, no strange activity to report.
I heard Sabrina’s soft voice at my side.

Chapter 100
“What could Cassie be looking for here?”
She sounded as puzzled as i felt
This run–down, half–empty building–what could it possibly hold that Cassie needed
I was just as stumped. But I trusted Cassie–she’d never come to a place like this without a reason. There had to be something here, even if we couldn’t see it yet.
Gideon frowned, his jaw tight as he thought aloud,
“Why turn off her phone? Usually, only high–end, hush–hush dens require that. Is there a place like that in this building?”
I tugged at my hair, frustration coiling in my chest.
We were so close we knew Cassie was here–but every lead felt like it slipped through our fingers.
Then the manager’s eyes locked on me, his gaze lingering like he was holding back something
Caleb noticed it too, dropping a heavy hand on the manager’s shoulder.
“Spit it out. No hemming and having–just tell us.”
“Oh, uh,” the manager stammered, glancing between me and Gideon,
“hearing this wolf talk about phones being off, and seeing that she wolf’s bracelet–it jogged my memory We’ve got a special tenant upstairs.”
Bracelet? Special tenant?
My brows shot up, and I could feel everyone else’s eyes swing to the manager, sharp with urgency.
He squirmed under our stares, shifting from foot to foot. “Yeah, when I heard about the phone rule, it clicked. Upstairs, there’s a master–Mistress Zephira.”
He paused, like the name alone carried weight.
“She’s got this rule: leave phones, necklaces, all that outside. Keep quiet inside, too–no noise allowed.”
“She’s kind of a big deal,” he added, as if that explained anything.
Sabrina snorted, her nose wrinkling.
“Big deal, renting in a dump like this?”
The manager bristled, though his shoulders slouched a second later–he couldn’t argue the building was a
wreck.
“Dump or not, she’s here for the vibes.”
I waved a hand, cutting through the nonsense. We didn’t have time for aura talk.
“Cut to it. What floor’s Mistress Zephira on?”

“Eighteen.”
That was all we needed.
We bolted for the elevator, footsteps echoing through the empty lobby.

When the elevator doors slid open, a wave of red light hit us first–dim, eerie, painting everything in a sickly
glow.
Then came the smoke, thick and choking, making me cough as I waved a hand to clear it.
As the haze thinned, a snarling, fanged face lunged out of nowhere–eyes glowing, teeth bared.
“Ah!” Sabrina, who was closest to the door, shrieked, her face draining of color as she grabbed the nearest arm and clung tight.
Caleb’s chuckle cut through the tension.
He pulled off the monster mask, waving it teasingly in Sabrina’s face.
“Relax, it’s just a prop.”
“A prop, huh?”
Sabrina’s voice was sharp, but her hands were still shaking.
For someone who looked so delicate–soft features, neat hair–she had a mean shove.
She pushed Caleb hard, hard enough that he stumbled back, nearly crashing into the elevator wall.
