(Aria’s POV)
Marcus Stone’s expression turned grave as he leaned closer to me, his voice dropping to an urgent whisper “Aria, listen carefully. The nearest escape route is through the lounge window.”
My pregnant wolf stirred anxiously within me as his words sank in. “What do you mean?”
“It leads directly to the coast,” he continued, his wolf’s scent heavy with urgency. “There’s a speedboat waiting at the rocky shore. Start the engine and head out to sea without looking back.”
I stared at him in shock. “Marcus, I can’t-”
“You can and you must,” he interrupted, his protective instincts flaring. “Trust me, Aria. Drowning is better than capture by Viktor Kane’s men.”
The brutality of his words hit me like a physical blow. My hand moved instinctively to protect my belly where our pup was growing. “There has to be another way.”
“There isn’t,” Marcus said firmly. “Viktor’s already suspicious. It’s only a matter of time before he discovers
who you really are.”
The sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the hallway outside our room. Marcus’s head snapped toward the door, his wolf’s instincts on high alert.
“They’re coming,” he whispered. “Get ready to run.”
My pregnant wolf whimpered with terror, but I knew he was right. If Viktor discovered my connection to Dominic, my life would be forfeit.
Suddenly, the sound of shattered glass erupted from somewhere in the building. Viktor’s voice roared above the chaos, his Alpha authority cutting through the noise.
“Find her! Capture the Lewis woman! Don’t let her escape!”
Marcus grabbed my arm, his grip urgent but gentle. “Run, Aria! Now!”
I didn’t hesitate. My wolf’s survival instincts kicked in as I bolted toward the door, my pregnancy making my movements awkward but desperate determination driving me forward.
Behind me, I could hear the distinctive sounds of wolves clashing. Marcus’s pack enforcers were buying me
precious time, their growls and snarls echoing through the building as they fought to hold off our pursuers.
“Thank you,” I whispered, even though Marcus could no longer hear me.
I burst through the lounge door, my enhanced werewolf agility carrying me toward the window Marcus had indicated. Without hesitation, I leaped through the opening and landed in a small forest beyond the building.
The night air was thick with salt and tension. My wolf’s instincts guided me through the darkness,
supernatural speed propelling me toward the beach despite my condition.
Branches whipped at my face as I ran, my pregnant wolf driving me forward with maternal desperation. Every step brought me closer to the coast, closer to the hope of escape.

The sound of pursuit grew louder behind me. Viktor’s men were following, their wolf scents carrying on the ocean breeze, sharp with aggression and their Alpha’s authority.
“There she is!” someone shouted. “The pregnant one!”
My lungs burned as I pushed myself harder, my hand pressed against my belly to protect the pup within. The
baby was restless, sensing my distress through our bond.
Finally, I burst through the tree line and saw the rocky shore spread before me. The speedboat was exactly
where Marcus had promised, its white hull gleaming in the moonlight.
I stumbled down the rocky slope, my feet slipping on the wet stones. The sound of my pursuers was getting
closer, their voices carrying threats and commands.
“Surround the beach!” Viktor’s voice boomed. “Don’t let her reach the water!”
I reached the speedboat and fumbled with the engine, my hands shaking with panic. The motor roared to life
just as the first of Viktor’s men emerged from the forest.
“Stop!” one of them shouted. “You won’t get far!”
I gunned the engine, the boat lurching forward into the dark waters. Behind me, muzzle flashes lit up the
shore as Viktor’s men opened fire.
Bullets whizzed past my head, their sharp cracks mixing with the roar of the engine. My wolf’s enhanced reflexes helped me dodge the projectiles, but I could feel the danger closing in.
One bullet struck the water inches from the boat, sending up a spray of seawater. Another pinged off the
metal hull, leaving a bright scar in the paint.
I held tight to the steering wheel, my other hand instinctively protecting my belly. The pup was moving frantically inside me, responding to my terror with distressed kicks.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered to my unborn child. “I’m so sorry.”
Tears streamed down my face as the shoreline receded behind me. The reality of my situation hit me like a crushing wave. Even if I escaped Viktor’s immediate reach, I was alone on the open ocean with no idea where
to go.
I thought of Dominic, his silver–gray eyes filled with love and protection. Would I ever see him again? Would
he ever meet our child?
“I think I may never see him again,” I sobbed, my pregnant wolf howling silently within me.
A sudden explosion from the engine compartment sent black smoke billowing around me. One of Viktor’s bullets had found its mark, striking the motor with devastating accuracy.
The speedboat began to slow, its power failing as seawater leaked into the damaged engine. I tried frantically to restart it, but the motor was dead.
“No, no, no,” I whispered desperately. “Please work.”
Behind me, I could hear the roar of approaching engines. Viktor’s men were launching their own boats, their
pursuit relentless and methodical.
I was trapped, helpless on the dark water with nowhere to run. The boat drifted with the current, black smoke rising from the ruined motor like a funeral pyre.

I moved to the edge of the boat, my legs trembling with fear and resolve. The dark water stretched endlessly in all directions, offering a final sanctuary from the monsters pursuing me.
“Goodbye, Dominic,” I whispered, my voice carried away by the ocean wind. “I love you.”
I closed my eyes and leaned forward, letting gravity pull me into the cold embrace of the sea. The saltwater rushed up to meet me, and I felt the shocking cold envelop my body.
As I sank beneath the surface, the agonizing suffocation of drowning began. My wolf’s instincts screamed against this unnatural death while my human consciousness started to fade.
Water filled my lungs, and I felt myself growing weak. The darkness was closing in, promising an end to the fear and pain.
Suddenly, through the water, I heard a burst of gunfire mixed with a desperate cry that cut through the ocean’s roar.
“Aria!”
The voice was familiar, filled with Alpha authority and desperate love. It sounded like Dominic’s voice, but how could that be possible?
Was I hallucinating in my final moments? My mate bond pulsed weakly, and through the darkening water, I
saw a powerful figure swimming toward me with supernatural strength.
Strong arms wrapped around me, pulling me back toward the surface. The familiar scent of cedar and
dominance filled my senses even through the saltwater.
“Dominic?” I tried to say, but only bubbles escaped my lips.
Consciousness faded as I felt myself being carried upward, away from the dark depths that had almost
claimed me. My last thought was of my mate’s silver–gray eyes, filled with love and determination.
When awareness returned, I was coughing up seawater, my lungs burning with each breath. Dominic’s
panicked voice was calling my name, his powerful Alpha scent wrapping around me like a protective shield.
“Aria! Aria, stay with me!”
I opened my eyes to see his face filled with worry, his silver–gray eyes wide with fear and relief. His cedar scent mixed with the salt spray, creating a combination that meant safety and home.
“Dominic?” I whispered weakly, my voice barely audible.
He embraced me tightly, his strong Alpha arms pulling me against his chest. I could feel his heart
hammering against my cheek, his wolf’s protective instincts overwhelming.
“Thank the moon goddess,” he breathed into my hair. “I thought I’d lost you.”

“Why are you only here now?” I sobbed against his chest. “I thought I would probably never see you again in this lifetime…”
