Chapter 158: What Kind of Grudge Exists Between Alexander and My Brother?
(Aria’s POV)
“It seems you remember.” Dominic lightly touched my nose, a playful glint dancing in his silver–gray eyes. His
powerful Alpha scent wrapped around me with teasing warmth.
“You ungrateful little she–wolf, that box of chocolates probably wasn’t even given to me intentionally, but
rather discarded because they weren’t wanted by someone else.”
My cheeks flushed crimson as my true intentions were exposed so directly. He had seen right through me, confirming his suspicion with that knowing look. My wolf whimpered with embarrassment beneath my skin,
practically hiding from his perceptive gaze.
“That was because I heard you didn’t go home for the New Year, so I… I…” I stammered, trying to find some way to justify my actions without admitting the truth.
Dominic finished my sentence with obvious amusement, his Alpha authority softening into something warmer. “You pitied me and bestowed them upon me, didn’t you?”
“How could that be?” I protested weakly, though we both knew he was right.
“You did!” Dominic hummed, his voice laced with playful satisfaction. “And to think I actually believed you had finally turned over a new leaf, seeing through Alexander’s true nature, and wanted to embrace my arms…”
Hearing his continuous jesting, I realized he was just teasing me, not truly dwelling on past grievances. My pregnant wolf calmed at his gentle humor, recognizing that he wasn’t actually upset about the chocolate
incident.
“You’re impossible,” I muttered, though I couldn’t help but smile at his dramatics.
Curiosity piqued, I pressed him further. “Even if the chocolate was casually given to you, what does that have
to do with Scarlett Moon?”
Dominic didn’t keep me in suspense. His cedar scent shifted with memory, carrying hints of old frustration.
“It was Valentine’s Day. You gave me chocolates, so I had to give you something in return,” he explained, his voice taking on a more serious tone. “I went to a flower shop and bought you a bouquet, thinking it would be
a nice exchange…”
I watched him intently as a hint of bitterness touched his lips. His Alpha presence dimmed slightly, as if the memory still stung after all these years.
He continued, “But when I came back with the flowers and wanted to call you downstairs, I saw you behind
Alexander, chatting and laughing…
I let out a dry laugh, remembering that day clearly now. My wolf stirred restlessly within me as the memories
flooded back.
It was Valentine’s Day, and I had thought Alexander wouldn’t come to Silverpine High School. I had casually given the chocolates to Dominic, even making an excuse about needing to lose weight to avoid any misunderstandings.

I never thought it would lead to one anyway. But it still did, confusing Dominic with my mixed signals.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered, finally understanding how my thoughtless actions had hurt him. “I never meant to give you false hope.”
Eager to divert the topic from my past mistakes, I interjected, “What happened next? You didn’t casually give that bouquet to Scarlett, did you?”
It seemed like a plausible scenario: Dominic initially misunderstood my intentions, and then Scarlett misunderstood Dominic, believing the flowers signified his interest. This could have fabricated a false rumor
about their relationship.
“What are you thinking? Me giving her flowers? How could that be?” Dominic’s Alpha scent spiked with indignation, his eyes flashing with offense.
“Huh?” I was taken aback, my wolf perking up with surprise. “The flowers weren’t from you?”
“Of course not.” His voice was firm, leaving no room for doubt.
I was utterly confused, my pregnant wolf whimpering with bewilderment. “Then how…?”
Dominic pursed his lips, his powerful presence shifting with annoyance. “I actually don’t know. I just threw that bouquet into the trash can outside the school building.”
He paused, his expression darkening. “But then, the rumor spread that I gave flowers to Scarlett… I guess she might have dug them out of the trash?”
I couldn’t help but smile wryly, finding the suggestion unlikely. Such a prestigious werewolf actress like Scarlett would have received countless gifts on Valentine’s Day from admirers across the territories.
“That seems… improbable,” I said carefully, not wanting to dismiss his theory entirely.
Dominic, noticing my disbelief, furrowed his brow. His Alpha authority asserted itself as he leaned forward.
“Then tell me, why would the bouquet I threw into the trash end up in Scarlett’s hands? If it wasn’t her digging through the trash, then who else?”
I offered an alternative, my wolf’s practical instincts emerging. “Could it be that another student found the flowers and used them to impress her?”
But Dominic seemed uninterested in exploring the truth further. His silver–gray eyes focused solely on me,
intense and unwavering.
“No matter who dug through the trash, Scarlett and I have no relationship whatsoever.”
“Then have you ever spoken to her in private?” I pressed, needing to understand the full extent of their history.
“No,” Dominic leaned closer to me, his powerful Alpha scent enveloping me completely. “A
wanted to talk to you.”

My ears tingled from his sudden romantic confession. My wolf stirred beneath my skin, responding to his proximity and the sincerity in his voice.
I quickly pushed his shoulder, trying to maintain some distance. “Let’s be serious!”
“I am being serious.” His expression was earnest, almost vulnerable.
I ignored his attempt at intimacy, my brow furrowed slightly. My pregnant wolf sensed something amiss

about this entire situation.
“Then this makes it even stranger…” I murmured, pieces of a puzzle forming in my mind.
“What’s strange?” Dominic asked, his Alpha instincts sharpening.
“Do you remember what Scarlett called you just now?” I asked, meeting his gaze directly.
At this, Dominic also frowned, his Alpha instincts understanding my point immediately. “It is suspicious
indeed.”
The use of ‘Alpha–mine‘ implied an intimate mate relationship. It was a term I had only heard used between bonded pairs, not even from his childhood friend Dr. Nathan Lewis, who addressed him as ‘Dominic‘ or ‘Alpha
Blackwood‘ in formal settings.
“It seems this she–wolf has ill intentions,” Dominic said, his protective Alpha pheromones flaring as he
mirrored my growing unease.
I worried that Scarlett, despite her celebrity status, was merely a pawn. We had no idea who was behind her or their true motives against the Shadow Pack.
The situation was particularly grim given Dominic’s strained relationship with his father. This left him vulnerable in pack politics, a precarious situation before a new, unknown adversary.
The thought of threats to our mate bond and unborn pup made my wolf whimper with anxiety.
Just as I was deep in thought, Dominic playfully poked me. His Alpha humor returned, lightening the serious
mood.
“I haven’t heard you call me that yet,” he said with a charming smile, his silver–gray eyes twinkling
mischievously.
“Why don’t you try?”
“Huh?” I was momentarily confused, my pregnant wolf stirring with nervous energy. “Call you what?”
“Call me Alpha–mine.”
I was speechless, my wolf whimpering with embarrassment. First ‘mate‘, now ‘Alpha–mine‘–I couldn’t help but feel a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
This playful, almost mischievous Dominic was a far cry from the intimidating Alpha King I had always known him to be in public.
“Stop messing around…” I protested weakly.
“I’m not,” Dominic’s smile widened, his powerful presence somehow gentle despite his commanding aura. “Come on, just say it.”
Just then, my phone rang, offering a timely escape. I quickly pushed away Dominic’s approaching face, my cheeks flushed and my wolf practically hiding.
I stood up abruptly. “I need to take this call first.”
The caller ID showed Silvercrest Hospital’s werewolf psychiatric ward. It concerned my brother James, so! had to answer immediately.
“Hello, is this Miss Summers?” came the professional voice of Dr. Thompson.

“It’s me,” I quickly confirmed, then eagerly asked, “Dr. Thompson, is something wrong with my brother?”
“Don’t worry, Miss Summers, your brother is fine. In fact, he even mentioned your name today…”
My face lit up instantly, hope flooding through me. My wolf hummed with excitement at this breakthrough.
“My brother remembers me?” I asked, barely able to contain my joy.
“It seems so, but…” The doctor’s tone shifted, his professional werewolf physician’s manner becoming cautious. “There’s something unusual I feel I need to discuss with you…”
My heart tightened, my pregnant wolf whimpering with anxiety. The hope I’d felt moments ago began to
waver.
“What is it?” I asked, dreading the answer.
The doctor paused, seemingly organizing his thoughts carefully. “I recall you mentioning the name ‘David Turner‘ to me previously. I brought it up to your brother today, but he didn’t react much.”
Another pause, more ominous than the first. “However, Alexander Reed…”
The doctor’s voice trailed off, as if carefully choosing his words. “Are you sure your former mate has no vendetta against your brother?”
This question caught me completely off guard. I hesitated, my wolf stirring uneasily within me.
Only recently, my brother had desperately urged me to reconcile with Alexander. This implied a relationship that shouldn’t be hostile between the two Alphas.
A vendetta? Definitely not possible, especially since James had supported Alexander throughout our mate
bond.
Resolving my doubts, I nodded firmly. “Yes, Dr. Thompson, I am certain there’s no bad blood between them.” But even as I spoke, my wolf’s instincts told me something was very wrong about my brother’s reaction to Alexander’s name. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there were secrets about their relationship that I didn’t
understand.
