Chapter 138: Unexpected Encounter
(Aria’s POV)
When the door to the adjacent private room opened, the colleagues who had been playing enthusiastically suddenly quieted down. The lively chatter and laughter died away as if someone had flipped a switch.
“Alpha Dominic is here…” one voice whispered nervously.
“Alpha Dominic…” another colleague echoed with obvious awe.
Hearing the scattered voices, I instinctively turned to look at Dominic beside me. His powerful Alpha presence immediately filled the entire space, making the air feel thicker.
Finally, I understood his earlier comment about “I’m not here, they play more relaxed.” Indeed it was absolutely true. The moment any Alpha King entered a room, the entire atmosphere shifted dramatically. My wolf whimpered softly within me, picking up on the nervous energy from my colleagues.
Jason Hart stood up and waved at me, pointing to an empty seat beside him with obvious invitation.
“Aria! Come sit over here with us!” he called out with friendly warmth.
Before I could step forward, Dominic’s strong hand caught mine, pulling me gently but firmly back to his side. “We’ll sit here,” he announced with calm Alpha authority, leading me to a side table positioned apart from the.
main group.
His fingers remained intertwined with mine as we settled into our seats, his touch sending warmth through my skin despite my growing embarrassment.
The colleagues exchanged meaningful glances, their expressions filled with obvious gossip and curiosity. Their various pack scents shifted noticeably as they processed this unexpected development.
I hurriedly withdrew my hand from Dominic’s grasp, my face burning with embarrassment as I felt everyone’s
eyes on us.
“How’s the venison tonight?” I asked Linda, a senior herbalist sitting nearby, using conversation to mask my
discomfort.
“It’s excellent, very tender,” she replied, though her eyes kept darting between Dominic and me with obvious speculation.
My wolf whimpered softly within me at the intensity of his Alpha scent that seemed to wrap around me protectively despite my attempts to create distance.
However, Dominic seemed completely oblivious to my embarrassment and continued his attentive behavior without any reservation,
“Try this,” he said, placing a perfectly grilled piece of venison on my plate. “It’s cooked exactly right.”
I stared at the meat on my plate, feeling heat rise in my cheeks. “Dominic, you really don’t need to…”
“Didn’t you say you were hungry earlier? Eat something quickly,” he interrupted gently, his protective instincts evident in every gesture.

He continued serving me various dishes as if I were Incapable of feeding myself. This herb salad is good for pregnant she–wolves. The moon berry sauce has excellent nutritional value.”
Despite my polite attempts to maintain appropriate distance to avoid creating misunderstandings among my colleagues, Dominic persisted in his attention.
He served dish after dish as if afraid I wouldn’t eat enough, his Alpha authority making it nearly impossible for anyone to interrupt or question his behavior.
Jason Hart shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his earlier friendliness replaced by obvious intimidation in the face of Dominic’s commanding presence.
Other colleagues exchanged nervous whispers, their previous relaxed celebration mood completely evaporated.
The atmosphère gradually became increasingly tense due to Dominic’s overwhelming Alpha influence. Even the most confident pack members seemed to shrink slightly in their seats.
“Alpha Dominic,” one brave colleague ventured hesitantly. “Would you like to try the singing entertainment? We have an excellent sound system…”
“No thank you,” Dominic replied politely but firmly, his attention never leaving me. “I prefer to ensure Aria eats properly.”
The silence that followed was thick with awkwardness. I could feel my colleagues‘ discomfort radiating through their shifting scents.
Seeing this expensive private room being wasted on nothing but quiet eating and drinking, with half the entertainment facilities sitting unused, I tried to subtly encourage Dominic to leave.
“Isn’t it getting pretty late?” I asked casually, glancing at my watch. “Isn’t your company still busy with urgent matters?”
Dominic showed me his own watch with a slight smile. The digital display read seven o’clock in the evening. “It’s only seven o’clock,” he pointed out reasonably. “Even the most hardworking werewolves would have finished their pack duties by now.”
I felt my subtle hint completely backfire. Even those colleagues who regularly worked overtime would have left their offices by this hour.
As I desperately racked my brains for something else to say that might tactfully encourage Dominic to leave so my colleagues could resume their normal celebration, he suddenly leaned close to my ear.
His distinctive cedar scent overwhelmed my sensitive wolf senses, making my heart race involuntarily as his warm breath brushed against my skin.
“Are you full?” he whispered so quietly that only I could hear.
The intimate gesture sent shivers down my spine while making my face burn even hotter. Several c pretended not to notice, but I caught them stealing glances.
I nodded quickly, afraid to speak in case my voice came out shaky.
“Good,” he murmured, still close enough that his lips almost touched my ear.

“I just remembered something,” he announced. “I received an international collaboration proposal from Northern Medical Consortium for herbal remedy distribution earlier today. Aria, would you like to see it?”
“Northern Medical Consortium’s contract?!” I exclaimed, my face showing complete amazement as if I
couldn’t believe my ears.
The words hit me like lightning. Northern Medical was legendary in our industry.
Not only me, but all my colleagues‘ eyes immediately lit up at the magical mention of “Northern Medical.” This was the ultimate dream destination for all herbal remedy companies throughout the werewolf
territories.
If I could really secure product distribution through Northern Medical’s established networks, it would be an absolute dream come true for any herbalist.
“You’re not joking about this, are you?” I asked breathlessly, my heart pounding with sudden excitement. Dominic’s smile widened at my obvious enthusiasm. “I never joke about business opportunities. The proposal documents are at my company office.”
“Can we go see them right now?” I asked eagerly, all thoughts of my colleagues‘ celebration immediately forgotten.
“Of course,” Dominic agreed. “Let’s go immediately.”
I quickly said goodbye to my colleagues, who looked envious but understanding of this incredible opportunity.
Following Dominic to his luxury SUV, I couldn’t contain my excitement throughout the entire journey. “How did Northern Medical even hear about our small company?” I asked, practically bouncing in my seat. “What kind of products are they interested in distributing? What would be the minimum order quantities?” Dominic patiently answered every single one of my rapid–fire questions, his eyes warm with obvious affection as he watched my enthusiasm.
“They specifically mentioned interest in your unique herbal formulations,” he explained. “Particularly the fertility enhancement remedies and pregnancy support supplements.”
His words made my wolf stir with pride. Those formulations represented years of research and traditional knowledge passed down through my family.
Just as I was about to ask another dozen questions, a phone call suddenly interrupted our conversation. The caller ID displayed on the car’s screen showed “Hunter Hayes.”
Dominic pressed the hands–free button without hesitation.
“Alpha, I apologize for the interruption,” Hunter’s respectful voice filled the vehicle. “Your mother was arrived at Shadow Security headquarters and is currently waiting in your personal office.”
My excitement about the Northern Medical proposal immediately dampened. My smile faded slightly as I looked up at Dominic with growing concern.
His expression remained completely calm, showing neither surprise nor any excess emotion at the news. His Alpha composure appeared unshakeable.

“Did she mention the purpose of her visit?” Dominic asked with professional detachment.
“No, Alpha. She simply said she wanted to see you while she was in the Northern Territory.”
The call ended, leaving awkward silence in the vehicle. I could sense the complexity of family dynamics! didn’t fully understand.
“Maybe we should postpone looking at the proposal until tomorrow,” I suggested hesitantly. “You should meet with your mother first. Family matters are more important.”
Dominic’s response was immediate and firm. “No need. We’ll go together.”
“Together?” I repeated with growing nervousness. “Are you sure that’s appropriate?”
The thought of meeting Dominic’s mother under these circumstances – given our ambiguous relationship status and the fact that I was secretly pregnant with his pup – filled me with anxiety.
My wolf whimpered uneasily at the prospect of such a potentially awkward encounter.
“There’s nothing inappropriate about it,” Dominic said with straightforward Alpha confidence. “You work at my company. It’s perfectly natural for you to be there.”
His matter–of–fact attitude made me feel like I would seem guilty if I continued hesitating or making excuses. “If you’re certain…” I said reluctantly.
Twenty minutes later, we arrived at the impressive Shadow Security headquarters building. Taking the executive elevator to Dominic’s office on the top floor, my nervousness increased with each passing floor.
When we entered the spacious office, I immediately noticed an elegantly dressed, beautiful middle–aged woman reading documents on the leather sofa near the window.
She possessed a serene yet sharp aura that made people unconsciously straighten their backs upon entering her presence. Her wolf’s commanding energy filled the room despite her relaxed posture.
I could immediately see where Dominic inherited his striking features. The bone structure, the intelligent eyes, the natural authority – the family resemblance was unmistakable.
However, what surprised me most was Dominic’s tone when he addressed her. His voice was surprisingly detached and emotionless, as if she were a business acquaintance rather than his mother.
“Mother,” he said formally. “This is unexpected.”
“Dominic,” she replied with equal coolness, setting down the documents. “I hope you don’t mind the intrusion.”
Isabella Blackwood rose gracefully from the sofa, her movements reflecting years of Luna training and pack leadership experience.
“I’m conducting business in the Northern Territory this week,” she explained with polite distance. “I thought I should visit while I was here,”
Their conversation felt more like a diplomatic pack alliance discussion than any family reunion. The emotional distance between them was palpable and deeply unsettling.
This realization made my heart ache unexpectedly. How had young Dominic managed to grow up into such an excellent Alpha despite such cold family circumstances?
“Mother, this is Aria Summers,” Dominic said, gesturing toward me with professional courtesy. “She was my

university junior and is now helping develop herbal remedies at my company.”
I stepped forward and bowed respectfully. “It’s an honor to meet you, Mrs. Blackwood.”
Isabella’s piercing gaze studied me carefully before she repeated my name thoughtfully. “Aria Summers… I
see.”
Something in her tone suggested recognition, though I couldn’t imagine how she might know of me.
After a moment of uncomfortable silence, Isabella turned back to Dominic with obvious purpose.
“Have you seen your father recently?” she asked with carefully neutral voice. “I heard he had also returned to the territory.”
The fact that a mated she–wolf spoke of her Alpha partner’s whereabouts as something she had merely “heard about” struck me as particularly tragic.
“No,” Dominic replied without emotion. “I haven’t seen him yet.”
Isabella nodded as if this was exactly what she had expected. “I see. Well, I should leave you to your business
matters.”
She moved toward the office door with practiced grace, but paused at the threshold. Turning back, she glanced at me briefly before focusing on Dominic with unmistakable warning in her voice.
“What you’re plotting, your father will never agree to,” she said with quiet Alpha authority despite her obvious concerns. “You’d better think very carefully about the consequences.”
