Chapter 137: Confession and Vulnerability
(Aria’s POV)
ミップ
I found myself completely speechless against Dominic’s sharp wit, unable to match his verbal sparring skills no matter how hard I tried. My wolf whimpered softly within me at his overwhelming Alpha presence that seemed to fill every corner of this private room.
His arguments were too logical, too well–crafted. Every time I tried to counter his points, he had another response ready that left me floundering.
When I finally gave up and pouted in frustrated silence, Dominic’s face broke into that devastating smile that made my heart skip beats.
“Aria,” he said with his magnetic voice, leaning closer until I could feel his warm breath on my skin. “Why don’t you want to take responsibility for me? Hmm?”
His final word carried an upward inflection that was irresistibly charming. His silver–gray eyes gleamed with mischief, but underneath the playful exterior, I caught something deeper.
Something vulnerable.
Despite his confident smile, there was an unmistakable note of sadness in his voice when he asked softly, “Do you dislike me that much?”
The pain in that simple question hit me like a physical blow. I instinctively shook my head, denying it immediately.
“No, I don’t dislike you,” I said quickly, not wanting him to think such a horrible thing.
Dominic’s expression brightened instantly, like sunlight breaking through storm clouds.
“Then you like me,” he concluded with obvious satisfaction, his Alpha scent shifting with hope.
Before I could protest or clarify, Dominic stepped even closer. His powerful presence seemed to envelop me completely.
“But I like you,” he confessed directly, his voice dropping to that husky whisper that made my skin tingle.
He bent down to meet my gaze at eye level, his powerful Alpha aura wrapping around me like a warm blanket. His gaze was so intense it made my face burn with embarrassment.
I tried to look away, to escape the overwhelming emotion in his silver–gray eyes. But he wouldn’t let me retreat.
“You are my destined mate,” he continued, his voice filled with raw honesty that took my breath away. “I love your eyes, your nose, your lips… every part of you.”
This confession was completely unlike the usually commanding and sometimes arrogant Alpha King I knew. Dominic never seemed to utter such romantic words, never revealed this tender side of himself.
And yet, his gaze was so deep, so sincere. His emotions seemed ready to spill over at any moment, making my heart pound uncontrollably while my wolf stirred uneasily under my skin.

“Dominic…” I whispered his name, overwhelmed by the intensity of his declaration.
But even as warmth flooded through me at his words, reality crashed back with crushing force. I remembered the vast difference in our pack status – him being Alpha King while I was a severed mate carrying a pup of
unknown paternity.
The romantic atmosphere instantly dissipated as I unconsciously turned my face away from his penetrating gaze.
“We’re too different,” I said quietly, the words tasting bitter in my mouth. “You’re Alpha King, and I’m…”
Before I could finish, Dominic immediately turned my face back toward him with gentle but firm fingers. Our eyes met again, and I could hear my own heart beating wildly in my ears.
“Don’t,” he said firmly. “Don’t diminish yourself

“Aria, in this lifetime, it’s not easy to meet someone you truly like.” His voice carried years of loneliness, of
waiting. “I thought I’d never have the chance to confess my feelings to you… but the moon goddess was
merciful, and I’m still fortunate enough to have this moment.”
His words made my heart feel both sweet like being soaked in honey and painful like being cut with a knife. My pregnant wolf responded to his sincere Alpha call, recognizing something profound and real.
“I thought I’d lost my chance forever when you mated Alexander,” he continued, his voice growing thick with emotion. “Every day watching you with him was torture.”
I felt tears prick at my eyes, imagining his pain during those years.
Dominic studied my expression carefully, then pressed me with gentle insistence.
“Do you like me too, Aria?” His voice was low and gentle as he brushed my disheveled hair behind my ear with tender fingers. His deep eyes sparkled with hope and vulnerability. “Please tell me honestly.”
I remained silent, my throat tight with conflicted emotions. The truth was that I did like him- more than liked him. This was my destined mate, a precious second chance that I’d never dared to hope for.
But my previous relationship with Alexander had nearly destroyed me completely. The betrayal, the heartbreak, the constant feeling of inadequacy – I simply no longer had the courage to try again.
Even knowing that Dominic was nothing like Alexander. He was so much better in every way – his unwavering devotion, his complete and unblemished feelings, his genuine care for my wellbeing.
However, the more perfect Dominic seemed, the more devastated I felt about my own unworthiness. I didn’t deserve this incredible Alpha King, especially while carrying another’s pup.
“I’m not good enough for you,” I whispered, my voice breaking slightly.

Dominic seemed to read my thoughts with alarming accuracy. His expression softened with understanding. “Don’t be afraid,” he said gently, his powerful hands cupping my face with infinite tenderness. “Trust me. I
won’t hurt you.”
He gently squeezed my fingers, his touch sending warmth through my entire body.
“I know all the things you’re worried about,” he continued, his Alpha authority melting into pure compassion. “If you don’t trust me yet, just wait a little longer – I’ll resolve everything.”

I almost spoke my immediate refusal, the words rising to my lips automatically. But something made me swallow them back down. My wolf was unexpectedly calm in his presence, recognizing something safe and true about this Alpha.
“I need time,” I said quietly instead.
Seeing my lack of outright rejection, Dominic’s face lit up with a brilliant smile that transformed his entire appearance. Joy radiated from every line of his body as he took my hand.
“Come on,” he said with renewed energy. “Let’s go to the company celebration.”
Just as Dominic moved toward the door to the next private room, I suddenly grabbed his arm with panicked realization.
“Wait!” I pointed awkwardly at his face. “The handprints!”
The marks from my earlier slapping were still clearly visible on his cheek, despite his Alpha healing abilities working to fade them. Red finger marks stood out against his skin like a beacon.
“My colleagues will see and ask questions,” I said worriedly. “What will we tell them?”
Dominic touched his face experimentally, then looked at me with an amused twinkle in his eyes.
“What do you suggest we do about it?” he asked with that maddening smile.
I felt guilt wash over me for having hit him so hard in the first place.
“Maybe we should wait until the handprints fade completely before going out,” I suggested hesitantly.
Dominic nodded agreeably and settled into one of the elegant chairs. “As you wish.”
As we sat quietly in the luxurious room, awkward silence stretched between us. The weight of his confession and my non–answer hung in the air like a living thing.
Trying to break the tension, I looked around at the expensive décor with growing curiosity.
“Is it really appropriate for us to occupy this private room?” I asked, worried about practical matters. “Won’t we interfere with the restaurant’s business? Someone might have reserved it.”
Dominic waved away my concerns with casual Alpha confidence.
“It’s perfectly fine,” he assured me. “This establishment belongs to the Lewis family.”
I blinked in surprise. “Dr. Lewis’s family owns this place?”
“Among other properties,” Dominic confirmed with a slight smile.
Even though I knew the Lewis family primarily as medical professionals, I was amazed at their wealth. The Silver Moon Grand Hotel was one of the most expensive venues in the Northern Territory.

“The Lewis family has diverse business interests beyond medicine,” Dominic explained, seeing my confusion. Just as I was processing this information, loud commotion erupted at the door. Voices and footsteps echoed from the corridor outside.
Thinking it might be my colleagues from the herbal remedy company looking for me, I rose to open the door.

But when I pulled it open, I found myself face–to–face with a strikingly beautiful woman I didn’t recognize.
She had flowing blonde hair and piercing blue eyes that studied me with obvious surprise and growing displeasure. Her expensive clothing and confident posture screamed wealth and status.
“Why are you here?” she asked with a slight frown, her tone carrying subtle challenge.
I laughed awkwardly, suddenly feeling like
an intruder despite Dominic’s assurances about the room.
“I… we were just…” I stammered, unsure how to explain our presence.
Before I could finish my explanation, I turned back toward Dominic.

“I should go next door to find my colleagues,” I said quickly, wanting to escape this uncomfortable encounter and leave them alone to talk.
But as I moved toward the door, Dominic’s strong hand caught mine, preventing my departure.

“Stay,” he said firmly, his Alpha authority clear. “Come along with me.”
His grip was gentle but uncompromising, and I found myself pulled back to his side as he faced the unexpected visitor with calm Alpha composure.
