Chapter 101: The Mate Bond Severance
Chapter 101: The Mate Bond Severance
(Aria’s POV)
I awoke with a start, my skin still tingling from the phantom sensation of a powerful Alpha’s embrace Dominic’s deep voice echoed in my mind, possessive and certain: “You are mine, little wolf, whether you
accept it or not.”
The dream felt so real that I found myself checking the empty space beside me, half expecting to find him there. My wolf stirred restlessly beneath my skin.
“This is ridiculous,” I muttered to myself, running a hand through my tangle of chestnut hair.
I blamed Olivia for planting these ideas. Her constant remarks about Dominic and me were clearly affecting my subconscious. What other explanation could there be for such a vivid dream?
In the kitchen, I hurriedly prepared a simple breakfast of moon–seared toast, my thoughts still scattered from the lingering dream. The calendar on my refrigerator glared back at me, today’s date circled in red.
Mate bond severance day.
My mobile phone rang, startling me so badly I nearly dropped my toast. Alexander’s name flashed across the
screen
“Hello?” I answered, hating how tentative my voice sounded.
“Aria,” Alexander’s voice was cool and detached. “I’m confirming our appointment at the Territorial Registry
Office. Ten o’clock.”
“I remember,” I replied, struggling to keep my tone neutral.
I
“Don’t be late. The process takes time, and I have other commitments this afternoon.”
Of course he did. Probably final preparations for his marking ceremony with Claire.
“I’ll be on time,” I promised, ending the call quickly..
My wolf whimpered anxiously as I rushed to get ready. After three years bound to Alexander’s wolf, today would sever that connection permanently. I should feel relief, but instead, my stomach churned with nerves. Traffic was heavier than expected, and I found myself gripping the steering wheel tightly as I navigated through the congestion. The last thing I needed was to be late today of all days.
I arrived at the Territorial Registry Office with just minutes to spare, rushing through the imposing glass
made doors. The building, with its silver–infused architecture designed to honor werewolf traditions, always me feel small.
Alexander was already waiting, standing near a large lunar calendar that dominated the waiting area. He looked thinner than when I’d last seen him, his amber eyes distant and cold. His posture was rigid, the familiar Storm Pack emblem on his tailored jacket gleaming under the lights.
“You’re late,” he said by way of greeting.
Tm exactly on time,” I countered, glancing pointedly at the clock.

We sat on opposite ends of a bench, the silence between us thick with unspoken words. His wolf’s scent betrayed a mixture of emotions anger, regret, perhaps even sadness–that his carefully composed face didn’t show.
My phone vibrated with a text message. Dominic’s name appeared on the screen.
“How’s the mate bond severance going? About to head into the marking ceremony preparations. See
attached.”
A selfie followed Dominic in formal attire, the Shadow Pack emblem prominent on his jacket. His silver–gray eyes seemed to look directly through the screen at me, and my wolf reacted with an unexpected surge of something. I quickly looked away, confused by my response.
“Dominic Blackwood,” Alexander’s voice broke the silence. Tve heard rumors”
I didn’t reply, tucking my phone away.
“I know you resigned from Silver Leaf,” he continued. “Claire mentioned an… altercation.”
“Did she?” I responded coolly.
“I’ve warned her to leave you alone,” he said, as if granting a great favor.
A cold smile played on my lips. He had no idea what was coming. Claire Watson would pay for her role in my mother’s death, and Alexander would witness the unraveling of his perfect new life.
“Reed–Summers,” a voice called out, breaking our tense exchange.
The Territorial Registry Officer, a stern–faced she wolf with silver–streaked hair, beckoned us forward. This way for your mate bond severance.”
Inside the sterile office, the process moved with unexpected efficiency. Silver–infused documents were placed before us, glowing faintly in recognition of their significance in werewolf law.
“Sign here,” the officer indicated, her tone businesslike. “And here. This acknowledges the mutual agreement to terminate all mate bond responsibilities and rights.”
My hand trembled slightly as I signed my name. Alexander’s signature followed, his pen pressing so hard it nearly tore the paper.
“And these final documents terminate all pack affiliations and territory residency claims,” she continued, sliding another set of papers forward.
Each signature felt like another lock unclicking, another chain falling away. When I signed the final document, a tangible weight lifted from my shoulders. My wolf, which had been subdued for so long under Alexander’s indifference, seemed to stand taller within me.
“The severance is complete,” the officer declared, pressing an official silver seal onto the documents. “You now legally unbonded.”
Three years of my life, summarized and ended in fifteen minutes of paperwork.
“A copy will be filed with the Territorial Registry and sent to your respective packs,” she added, handing us each a sealed envelope. “Good day.”
In the corridor, I took my first breath as an unbonded she wolf in three years. It tasted like freedom.
I hurried toward the exit, eager to leave this chapter of my life behind, but Alexander’s voice stopped me just

as I reached my car.
“Aria,” he called, his tone uncharacteristically uncertain.
I turned, facing him one last time. “What is it, Alexander?”
“Is that it?” he asked, his amber eyes searching my face. “Three years together, and we just… walk away?”
The audacity of his question after months of neglect ignited a spark of anger within me. My wolf bristled beneath my skin.
in your marking ceremony !
“What did you expect?” I challenged. “That I’d you Claire?”
The word ‘marking‘ seemed to strike him physically. His wolf’s scent shiffed with surprise.
“I don’t know what you want me to say,” he replied finally.
“There’s nothing left to say,” I told him, climbing into my car.
I drove away, watching Alexander Reed grow smaller in my rearview mirror. Once, that sight would have broken my heart. Now, I felt nothing but relief.
I pulled over briefly to send Dominic a text: ‘I’m on my way.”
Silver Moon Lodge appeared on the horizon, its grand architecture designed to impress even the most influential werewolves. As I approached, I saw the blockade of enforcer wolves checking invitations, their powerful builds forming an intimidating barrier.
A throng of pack representatives from across the territory had already arrived. Luxury vehicles bearing various pack emblems lined up in impressive formation, disgorging werewolves in formal attire. Whispers and nods of recognition passed between attendees as they identified important figures.
My modest car seemed woefully out of place among the display of wealth and power. When I pulled up to the security checkpoint, a muscle–bound enforcer wolf approached, his nose wrinkling slightly at my scent.
“Invitation?” he asked, clearly distinguishing me from the other guests.
I retrieved the formal card from my purse, the Shadow Pack emblem gleaming in silver embossing. Dominic’s name was printed in elegant script beneath it.
“I’m here as Alpha Blackwood’s guest,” I explained, my voice steadier than I felt.
The enforcer’s demeanor changed immediately. “Of course, Miss. Please proceed to the main entrance.”
Inside the opulent venue, crystal chandeliers cast a soft glow over the gathering werewolves. I paused, taking in the scene while reaching for my mobile phone to call Dominic
Before I could dial, a voice called out behind me, sharp with disbelief.
“Aria Summers? What are you doing at Claire’s marking ceremony?”
The voice carried a growl of shock and indignation that turned heads in our direction.
