Chapter 39: You’re the one who should get lost!
(Aria’s POV)
“Gossip?” My curiosity immediately piqued when Dominic mentioned it.
He finished putting the washed dishes into the cupboard and removed the apron he’d been wearing. The fabric slid away to reveal his white shirt and black suit pants. The pure black belt accentuated his waist, highlighting his broad shoulders and narrow hips. I couldn’t help noticing the solid muscles visible beneath his clothes, radiating an overwhelming Alpha presence.
I looked away quickly, suddenly aware of how narrow the kitchen space felt with him in it. I hurried out to the living area and turned to get the tea set. I needed to make him some tea–it was the least I could do after he’d
cooked.
“Here,” I said, handing him a cup.
He took a sip and raised his eyebrows slightly. “Did you buy new tea?”
I nodded quickly. “Yeah.” I couldn’t let him continue to drink the inexpensive tea I usually kept. After everything he’d done for me, he deserved better.
Dominic looked at me directly, his silver–gray eyes particularly bright, as if there was a strange light rippling in his pupils. I felt flustered under his intense gaze.
Just as I was about to speak, he suddenly chuckled. “Do you want to hear more gossip?”
“What gossip?” I asked, eager for the distraction.
“Claire’s ex–mate David has returned to the territory for treatment,” he said without hesitation. “And it was Alexander’s father who handled the admission procedures.”
I blinked in confusion. I understood each word individually, but together they made little sense. Claire’s ex–mate had returned for treatment, and it was my father–in–law Richard Reed who handled the procedures?
“Really?” I asked, surprised.
I knew Richard had always favored Claire because she was the daughter of someone he once admired, but I was shocked he would even take care of Claire’s ex–mate this way.
“Claire isn’t going to reconcile with her ex–mate, is she?” I wondered aloud.
It didn’t make sense. Claire had obviously been at the OB/GYN department recently, and I doubted it was for terminating her pregnancy. She must want to keep the pup. So why would her ex–mate suddenly return?
Dominic merely smiled without commenting.
“Isn’t that right?” I pressed, sensing he knew more than he was saying.
He shook his head, the corners of his lips still curved in that infuriating smile. “I don’t kn
or certain.”
I didn’t push further. It was just gossip anyway, and about Claire of all people. I wasn’t eager to discuss her more than necessary.
The room filled with the aroma of tea as the afternoon sun cast soft shadows through the window, creating a

comfortable and cozy atmosphere. It felt nice having someone here, sharing this quiet moment.
Suddenly, my mobile phone vibrated on the table. I glanced down at the caller ID–Alexander.
Before I could decide what to do, Dominic, who had been playing with the silver lighter I’d given him, suddenly
lit a small flame. Our eyes met briefly. I returned my attention to the phone and silenced the call.
A moment later, a text message appeared: [Come down! I’m downstairs at your apartment!]
I frowned slightly. Alexander was being particularly persistent today.
“Alexander is here?” Dominic asked in a low voice, obviously having seen the message.
“Don’t worry about him,” I replied, putting down my phone. “He’ll leave when he gets tired of waiting.”
It had been like this recently. Whenever Alexander had been drinking wolf–whiskey, he would come to my apartment building and demand I come down. I’d been annoyed at first, but now I simply ignored him until he eventually left.
I couldn’t understand why Alexander suddenly seemed like a different wolf. Before, I had been the one constantly seeking his attention while he remained cold and distant. Now the situation was completely
reversed.
Dominic lowered his eyes and took another sip of tea. “Do you want me to help you get rid of him?”
“No need,” I shook my head. “Let him be.”
I already owed Dominic too many favors. If I continued to rely on him like this, when would I ever be able to repay him?
We continued our conversation, but it wasn’t long before a loud banging started at my door. It grew increasingly insistent until it was impossible to ignore.
I sighed heavily. “He’s not going to stop, is he?”
The pounding continued, followed by Alexander’s voice. “Aria! I know you’re in there! Open the door!”
To my surprise, Dominic suddenly stood up and strode toward the entrance. Before I could stop him, he yanked the door open.
The hallway went silent. I moved to stand in the doorway beside Dominic.
Alexander stood frozen, his amber eyes wide with shock. “What are you doing here?” he demanded, his gaze shifting between Dominic and me.
Dominic’s silver–gray eyes fixed on the bag Alexander carried. “What’s in there?” he asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous tone.
“None of your business,” Alexander snapped, waving his hand dismissively. He looked past Dominic to me. “Aria, I brought you some special healing herbs for your hand.”
I noticed Dominic’s expression darken immediately. “Her hand?” he repeated slowly, connecting the dots. “The hand that Claire scratched?”
Alexander’s telling silence confirmed what Dominic had suspected. His scent betrayed the tried to maintain a neutral expression.

shoving him against the opposite wall of the hallway.
“You knew,” Dominic growled, his face inches from Alexander’s. “You knew your little girlfriend hurt Aria and you said nothing!”
“Dominic, stop!” I cried, rushing forward. My wolf whimpered anxiously within me as I feared a physical fight breaking out between the two powerful Alphas. If they started brawling, it could endanger not just them but my pregnancy as well.
Dominic ignored me, his eyes fixed on Alexander’s throat. “You’re pathetic,” he snarled “Defending a she wolf who deliberately hurt your mate.”
I placed my hand on Dominic’s arm, trying to pull him back. “Please, it’s not worth it.”
Dominic finally released Alexander but didn’t back away. He grabbed my injured hand instead, making me wince as he examined the wound through the bandage he had applied earlier.
His jaw tightened, and he turned back to Alexander. “Leave,” he ordered, his voice carrying the unmistakable authority of an Alpha King.
Recovering from his shock, Alexander pushed himself away from the wall, his amber eyes flashing with rage. “You have no right to tell me what to do regarding my mate,” he spat. “You’re interfering in our mate bond, Dominic. Have you forgotten pack principle? Mated she–wolves are off–limits to other Alphas.” Dominic’s lip curled. “That principle doesn’t apply to wolves that are severing their mate bonds.” Alexander’s face contorted with fury. “We are NOT severing our mate bond! I’ve told you this already!” “You don’t get to decide that alone,” Dominic countered. “Aria has made her choice clear.”
“This isn’t about Aria’s choice,” Alexander growled, his wolf snarling beneath his skin. “This is about you wanting what’s mine. You’ve had feelings for her since we were young, haven’t you? I always wondered why you were so eager to meet her at pack gatherings.”
I stared at Alexander in confusion. What was he talking about?
Dominic didn’t deny it. His silver–gray eyes remained unwavering as he replied, “Yes, I have. And I’ve stood by while you neglected and mistreated her for years. I won’t stay silent anymore.”
Alexander’s eyes widened, then narrowed dangerously. “I will never sever my mate bond with Aria. Never!” Dominic’s response sent a chill down my spine, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper: “That’s not up to you!”
