Chapter 158
Oh my god! Whoop! Internally, I’m having a party. Externally I keep my face expressionless a I step between my family to my dad. The w
“Hi.” I smile sweetly as I step inside. Nico directly behind me.
“I didn’t try to kill you, I SWEAR. I had nothing to do with it!”
“But…you do know something, don’t you?” I tilt my head innocently, playing hard on the sweet girl
act.
He paused for a moment before shaking his head violently. Ahhh, there it is, a tell.
“Nico, Mason, darlings, would you be so kind as to hold his arms for me. I don’t take my eyes off
Miguel. Number 1 rule Mumma taught me. Never turn your back on your opponent. My guys step around me, grabbing Miguels arms as he thrashes around and they manage to get him held firmly in place. I step forward slightly, leaning down a little to where he sits. “I’m not much of a talker eithe don’t worry if you don’t want to talk, we can just take that feature away permanently.” I grab his jaw
roughly with one hand and punch him in the throat with my free hand. When he opens his mouth to
suck in air I grab his tongue, digging my nails, in to stop it from slipping out of my grasp.
“If at any point to feel like keeping this appendage, feel free to start talking.” I pull it, harder and
harder, wondering exactly how much force it would take to rip it out of his mouth when he starts screaming and shaking, tears falling down his eyes as he yells a muffled “WAIT“.
I sigh and let him go. “Don’t play with me now.”
“Wait, wait please, wait.”
“I. Am. Waiting.”
“My son. It might have been my son, Pedro.”
I scrunch my face up, imagining the scrawny, creepy little slime ball of a son I remember.
“I swear, I did not order a hit, but he might have. He was upset that you didn’t choose to merge out families. He wanted the power for when he took over from me.”
I turn to Dad who’s eyeing me curiously. “Effective. Kind of sadistic, but I guess you get that from
me.” He shrugs.
“Do you have a knife, Daddy?”
He pokes around in his pocket before pulling out a pocketknife and handing it over.

I turn back to Miguel. “Where is your son, Miguel?”
“I don’t know… He says on a sob.
Fair enough.” I shrug and drive the knife into his eye before ‘popping‘ it out of it’s socket. He screams and wails and thrashes around. Mason loses grip on his arm, and he covers the bleeding socket with his hand.
“I told you what I know!”
“Yeah, I know…I just felt like doing that anyway.”
“Get Camilla in here. We still want him alive.” My dad says to Hunter’s.
“Maybe we should stop calling her Daddy’s little Princess and go with Daddy’s little Devil instead.” My mum laughs as Dad tries to compose himself.
“Hmm…guess she does take after me.”
Nico
Isla’s Mum took her upstairs to her old room to clean up, while myself and Mason followed Luciano,
Tony and Luca to the office. Luciano’s face is full of concern and questions when we sit down, and he
looks at me.
“Nico?”
“Yes?”
“Is my daughter…what she did today…does she…” He huffs, not really knowing what question to ask first, but I already know this. Isla hid herself well from her family. Feigning the innocent little girl act for way too long to try and impress them. To fit the molded image, they had created for her.
“Your daughter is a firecracker. With all due respect. She’s beautiful, amazing, kind, smart, funny, but yes, she has a dark side, at that too is so utterly perfect.” He pours drinks around the table, but I decline when offered. If Isla has to go dry, I will too.
“I wanted to protect her from this side of our lives.” He sighs as the other two fathers nod in
agreement.
“Again, with all due respect sir. You can’t. She is who she is. There’s a fire inside of her that will burn down the world around her if it’s not allowed to thrive and be taught to maintain control.“.
He laughs a little as he shares a look with Tony and Luca. “Her mother was much the same when we
were younger.”

I think she could use an outlet. Something to give her purpose, make her feel included but In a way that we can monitor her safely.” Mason suggests.
You always did know exactly what she needed.” Luciano nods at Mason and takes a sip of his drink. “What do you suggest?”
Mason looks taken aback for a moment. I get that, always underneath the Don, always taking orders, always keeping his mouth shut and agreeing with what was decided. He’s much like I was before I took over from my own father.
“What if we let her do exactly what she did today?”
“You mean, let my daughter interrogate the slimy bastards that wrong us?” Luciano’s brows furrow and I can see the exact moment Mason’s confidence in himself slips and he wants to back down. I rest my hand on his thigh under the table and give him an encouraging squeeze to hold steady. It must do some good because he swallows a breath and says, “Yes, sir. With someone to monitor the situation and keep her safe, but let her feel useful, dangerous, in control like the rest of us. She longs to be useful.”
“Hmmm…“Luciano ponders for a while, swirling his drink before downing the rest of the whisky glass. “Okay. We can try that.”
When we leave the office to go find Isla and take her home, I spot an empty hallway and pull Mason down it, out of sight of any watchful eyes and kiss him hard. My hands pull on his hair and he responds with an aggressive passion before I pull back for air and lean my forehead on his.
“You did so good in there, cucciolo.”
“I didn’t think I could do it for a second, but you were right there with me and something about that just felt safe enough to speak up for our girl.”
I smile at him. “That’s right, our girl.” I kiss him once more before I pull him back out of the hallway. “Let’s go find our girl and take her home.”
