Chapter 27
Chapter 27
“Your doing?” Cheryl’s eyes narrowed to slits as she scanned the parking garage. But before she could figure anything out, Sebastian’s flat voice cut through. “Security cameras are conveniently out of service.”
Cheryl fell silent. After a beat, his meaning clicked, and she immediately turned on her heel and walked away.
Glancing back slightly, she caught sight of the Maybach following her at a steady distance. She frowned, wondering what game Sebastian was playing.
To get rid of him quickly, Cheryl hailed a passing car. But as soon as she opened the door, a young couple came out of nowhere, shoved past her, and
snatched the ride.
Cheryl stood there, dumbfounded for a second. She tried hailing the next taxi, but just like before, someone else jumped in and stole the cab. This happened several times in a row, and she kept getting blocked.
“Seems you don’t have a great day.” Sebastian’s cool voice came from behind. “Got nothing better to do? How about we chat?”
“What the hell is your problem?” Cheryl was starting to lose her cool. She turned around and locked eyes with Sebastian under the amber streetlight.
“Why target Zimmerman Group?” Sebastian demanded.
Now that Cheryl was Tieline Design’s legal rep, Sebastian was sure she’d approved that embarrassing sign. He also couldn’t help wondering if she had ties to Ace–and the Guzman family who’d suddenly snagged the resort bid.
Cheryl threw up her hands. “You’re the one who tried screwing me over first with that price hike. What, I’m just supposed to take it, but not allowed to fight back to protect my interests?”
“For your interests or for Yasmine’s?” Sebastian hit the nail on the head.
Cheryl didn’t even blink–she’d known his motives. A slow smile spread across her face as she gazed up at the glowing streetlamp. “Mr. Zimmerman, don’t you think the situation now feels familiar?”
Sebastian arched an eyebrow, waiting.
Cheryl pulled out her phone, pulled up the trending page, and zoomed in on a photo before shoving it in Sebastian’s face.
Sebastian barely glanced at the picture–he wrapped around Ashley under nearly identical streetlights. “Your point?” he asked.
“The lighting today is the exact same as the day you cheated–just as disgusting!” Cheryl sneered.
“Are you implying-” Sebastian’s face darkened. But the rest of his sentence-“Yasmine is actually jealous?” -died in his throat as Cheryl cut him off.
“What I think doesn’t matter. What matters is what you did.” Cheryl’s expression turned icy. “I don’t get why you’re suddenly searching everywhere for your ex–wife. Realized what you lost after the divorce? Well, late apologies mean nothing at all.
“You never loved Yasmine. If you just miss having a live–in maid or need a competent secretary, I know plenty of candidates. As for Yasmine’s location…” Cheryl paused, a mocking smile curling her lips.
“If you’ve got the guts, go ahead and bankrupt Unihorizon Group. I’d happily quit as CEO.” She turned to leave, throwing one last dagger over her shoulder. “Watch your back, Mr. Zimmerman.”
This time, no one stopped Cheryl.
Sebastian remained frozen under the streetlight, his sharp features drawn tight.
Truman ventured quietly. “Should we have someone tail, Ms. Chapman?”
After a long pause, Sebastian shook his head. “Not yet.”

They stood in silence as the bitter wind picked up. Truman eyed Sebastian’s injured arm with concern. After a moment of thought, hasad c Zimmerman, this could leave you with a chronic problem.”
‘Chronic problem? Sebastian paused, and suddenly, the fog in his mind cleared.
