Chapter 4
When I opened my eyes again, Reed was standing by the hospital bed, his expression unreadable.
“Summer,” his voice was tight with suppressed rage, “why the hell won’t you just admit you’re
wrong?”
Grace appeared in the doorway right on cue, her eyes red–rimmed. “Reed, just forget it. Your wife looks down on someone like me–a club girl. She wants me and the baby gone… I get it.”
She said this while gently stroking her swollen belly.
Suddenly, a young nurse burst in, looking frantic. “Is Logan Preston’s family here?”
My heart plummeted. “What’s wrong?”
The nurse’s face was grim. “The patient’s breathing tube shifted, and by the time we found him… he’s already…”
“No fucking way!” I shot up from the bed but collapsed as my legs gave out.
When I looked up, I caught Grace’s triumphant smirk.
I struggled to my feet and lunged at her. “You bitch! It was you!”
“Ahh!” She suddenly swayed, screaming, “What are you doing?”
Reed kicked me hard. “Summer!”
I hit the floor, but the physical pain was nothing compared to what was ripping through my heart.
In the morgue, I cradled my brother’s cold body, sobbing uncontrollably as my trembling fingers
traced his features that looked so much like mine.
“Logan! Wake up! Please, please wake up!” I was running out of tears.
Reed tried to pull me away, but I clung to my brother like I was rooted to the spot.
“I want a divorce,” I said, staring at him with empty eyes.

His pupils contracted sharply. “What did you just say?”
“Since you’ve got your new girl and a baby on the way, let’s get divorced. You win.”
“Like hell!” His rage exploded. “Jesus Christ, you really can’t handle sharing space with a pregnant
chick?”
Tears fell silently. “I don’t… have any family left. Just let me go.”
“You think you’re the only one who had family?” he roared. “Where were you when my parents got murdered? Grace lost her family too! And you? You dumped a pregnant woman at that strip club!”
I watched his breakdown with bitter amusement.
Grace started crying right on schedule. “Mrs. Sterling, if my family wasn’t broke, I never would’ve
worked at that club.”
“I begged you on my knees not to send me away. You knew how dangerous that place was, but you sent me back anyway. If Reed hadn’t shown up when he did, me and the baby would’ve…”
She rubbed her belly, sobbing. “I promise I’ll disappear after the baby’s born. Please, just let my
child live…”
Watching him destroy my entire family for some club girl, I started laughing.
“She’s having a complete mental break,” Reed said icily. “Sedate her. Now.”
I tasted blood in my throat as I quietly let the needle pierce my skin.
When I woke up again, the room was empty.
My phone buzzed–Grace had just posted on Instagram three minutes ago.
Michelin–starred restaurants, Chanel hauls, ultrasound pics… every damn post tagged me directly.
I blocked her ass with a bitter laugh and called a number I’d buried years ago.
The hospital felt like a morgue at this hour.
I ditched the hospital gown and slid into the Bentley that had been waiting.
As we pulled away, Reed’s Tesla flew past us in the opposite direction.
