Chapter 8
The doctors and nurses scrambled to get Victoria out of the room for treatment. Before Patrick could say another word, Thomas walked briskly through the door, holding a fruit
basket in one hand.
When Patrick saw Thomas, he immediately tried to get off his knees in panic, but Thomas firmly pressed him back down.
He growled, “Stay right there! A man like you, who hides the truth to be with his mistress, deserves to beg for forgiveness forever!”
Thomas then turned toward me with a gentle smile. “Ms. Spencer, I heard everything about your situation. I didn’t want to interrupt earlier when you were arguing, but I overheard the whole thing. I know how badly you’ve been wronged, and I promise I’ll make things right
for you.
“Divorces can be tough these days, but I’ll make sure yours goes smoothly. As for him, he’s officially fired from the rescue squad as of today!”
I nodded, satisfied with the result.
Patrick quickly raised his head, desperately clutching onto Thomas’s sleeve. “Please, Mr. Webb, give me another chance! I was blinded for a moment. I won’t do it again!”
Thomas immediately kicked him to the ground. “You think you’re the victim here? You’re lucky Ms. Spencer survived! If even one thing had gone wrong, she’d be dead, just like you claimed! How could you be so heartless?
“If someone like you stays on the rescue team, how will the public ever trust us again? Get as far away from here as possible!”
I had always known Thomas as a friendly guy; he and Patrick had even joked around like great friends. Seeing him so furious, I knew he was not changing his mind.
Patrick collapsed helplessly to the ground, his eyes dull with despair.

Thomas scoffed. “You should leave and stop bothering Ms. Spencer with her recovery. You’re coming with me!”
With that, he dragged Patrick out of my room.
After all the chaos, I finally breathed a sigh of relief and lay back, closing my eyes.
Patrick initially refused to agree to the divorce, forcing us to settle it in court. When the judge heard our story, he was so disgusted that he made Patrick leave with nothing.
Patrick knelt right there in the courtroom and slapped himself. He begged me for forgiveness before finally stumbling away, humiliated.

Thomas had been true to his word–he forced Patrick to resign and publicly punished him harshly. Soon, everyone knew what Patrick had done, and no company would hire him.
“Who knows if you’ll sabotage us, too? Get lost!”
When Victoria woke up, she immediately looked for Patrick. After learning he was
penniless and homeless, sleeping under a bridge, she spat in disgust.
“I only returned to you because I thought you had money and were obedient enough to listen to me! Look at you now–pathetic. You should’ve listened to me from the start!”
Patrick was already at his lowest point, and her words pushed him over the edge. In a fit of rage, he jumped up and beat Victoria to her death.
By the time Patrick realized what he had done, bystanders had already called the police, and he was promptly arrested. Later, I heard he ended up in prison, living miserably and getting bullied daily.
After leaving the hospital, I used Patrick’s assets to buy a comfortably–sized apartment and open a small convenience store. My days were simple–stocking shelves, ordering supplies, and whenever I felt tired, I would travel around, enjoying the freedom I had always
dreamed of.
Eventually, I traveled to the Emberveil Range and stayed in a cozy guesthouse, waiting

As the sun slowly broke through the clouds, lighting up the entire mountain range, I received a text message. Patrick had been beaten to death in prison–it was apparently quite brutal.
Smiling, I sent a reply. [That’s great news!]
I thought it was perfect. After all, I was the victim in my last life. In this life, it was finally
his turn.
It was the ending I had always wanted.
