Patrick shouted angrily, “You’ve all been tricked by Esme! She’s always been great at
twisting the truth, and now she’s using this fragile act to manipulate you. How shameless!
“Either way, I’m about to become a rescue squad captain. Once I do, I’ll remember all of you who tried to sabotage me. Trust me–you’ll regret it!”
Without hesitation, I forced myself upright and slapped Patrick across the face in front of everyone, then fell back onto the bed, breathing heavily.
I growled, “If someone like you becomes captain, it’ll be a tragedy for everyone! Unfortunately for you, even though you wish for my death, I’m still here. I’ve already told
your supervisor, Mr. Webb, everything.”
Victoria’s face paled, and she hurriedly defended herself. “Rick, don’t listen to her nonsense! She’s just trying to scare us. Remember how obsessed she was with you? Now, she’s using threats to force you into staying with her. Don’t fall for it!
“Besides, she’s never managed to get pregnant all these years. Who knows what’s wrong with her body?”
Patrick exhaled in relief, then frowned and glanced at Victoria. “Enough, don’t bring that up to upset her…”
The three of us froze at his words.
Patrick remembered that I had always wanted a child. Even in my last life, the last thing I said to him was, “My only regret is not being able to give you a child before dying.”
Not only did he remember, but he had openly defended me in front of Victoria for the very first time.
Patrick cleared his throat awkwardly, his eyes lowered. “What’s past is past. Anyway, since Vicky has gotten pregnant by accident, just treat the baby as your own. It’ll be great–the four of us can live together happily.”

His words made me gag from sheer disgust, and I immediately snapped back to reality. “Who would want to raise the child with you? Patrick, I want a divorce.”
I was not asking; I was telling him exactly what would happen.
Unexpectedly, Patrick panicked and quickly refused. “No way! Like I said, it was just an accident. From now on, her child is yours. I’ll spend Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays with you. Then I’ll spend Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with Vicky.”
Victoria instantly perked up, walked over quickly, and shook Patrick’s hand, smiling happily. “Why aren’t you agreeing to the divorce? Isn’t this exactly what we’ve discussed? Once she agrees to divorce, we can finally be together. You said the baby deserves to grow up in a healthy environment. Why are you hesitating now?”
Patrick avoided Victoria’s gaze and muttered, “It’s all the same anyway. A marriage certificate is just a piece of paper; it’s not important. Don’t dwell on it right now. She’s in this state now, and she’ll help care for the baby. Consider it repayment for how she’s treated you.”
I laughed bitterly, unable to contain myself. “Can you twist reality any further? Who hurt whom here? All along, it’s been the two of you hurting me!”
I had never met anyone as shameless as the two of them.
Patrick stared at me in disbelief. “Aren’t you the one twisting things now? Have you completely forgotten all the terrible things you’ve done?”
Victoria gently tugged his hand and shook her head as he spoke, tears welling in her eyes. “Don’t say that, Rick. Maybe Esme didn’t do it intentionally. But isn’t this better? I’ve finally understood my true feelings–I want to stay by your side, even if we’re not officially married. That’s enough for me.”
Furious, I grabbed the pillow behind me and threw it at them. “No one wants to hear your lovey–dovey garbage! If you’re done, get out of my sight! Or stay if you like. Mr. Webb said he’s on his way to see you, so maybe just wait here for him.”
