Chapter 12
Arthur’s POV.
That night, at Silver Moon Pack HQ–the tallest tower in the city, gleaming like a celestial pillar under the moonlight–I returned after dropping Lucy off.
Inside my Alpha office, I sat in a black leather chair, pen scratching across thick documents. Behind me, floor–to–ceiling windows framed the glittering skyline.
Ding.
A clear notification tone broke the silence.
I picked up my phone and opened my communicator.
My genius little junior had replied.
I glanced at the screen–and paused.
Then a low chuckle slipped from my lips.
She’d rejected me.
She, the brilliant girl I’d never met, had flat–out denied my request.
Just then, Jack walked in with a cup of coffee in hand.
He caught a glimpse of my phone screen.
Wait–someone had actually rejected the Alpha’s friend request?
Was this… real life?
Jack cleared his throat. “Alpha… your little junior is… quite something.”

I gave a quiet, amused snort.
“She is.”
The first person to ever reject me.
I wasn’t even mad.
Whatever. Let it be.
I took a sip of the coffee–and frowned.
Jack noticed. “Not to your taste? I can brew another.”
I didn’t answer right away.
Instead, my mind drifted–to a memory.
Cara’s coffee. She used to make it just the way I liked. Always perfect.
My wolf, Bob, growled restlessly. “When is our mate coming back? I know you miss the coffee Cara used to make just for you.”
“You mean that disgusting brew that tasted like foot soak?” I let out a cold laugh. “Yeah, I’m
not craving that.”
“Write a check. Eight zeroes. It’s her divorce settlement. Let’s just hope that after cashing the check, she won’t head straight to the Werewolf Marriage Registry to broadcast that laughable excuse for leaving me.”
Jack’s eyes widened. “Yes, Alpha.”
“She said she’d leave with nothing. I don’t believe her. A country girl who dropped out at
sixteen? She’s just playing hard to get–wants more money.”
This check? A clean break.
Payment for three years. After this, we owed each other nothing.

Just then, my wolf Bob muttered, “Maybe we still owe her one wild, mind–blowing night… I mean, don’t you want to show her how damn good we are?”
“Enough. Shut up.”
I took a deep breath, forcing down the heat boiling in my veins.
And just like that, Jack’s phone rang, cutting through the tension.
He picked up, then brightened.
“Alpha! Great news. The miracle healer has agreed to take our case. She’s going to perform
Lucy’s heart surgery!”
This was huge.
The legendary physician–famous for miraculous recoveries–had vanished three years ago.
Billionaires lined up to beg for her attention.
Now, she was back.
My brow finally relaxed. A slow smile tugged at my lips.
Lucy… was going to be saved.
Cara’s POV
The next day.
I stepped into the Coastal City Medical Center.
Suddenly, a commotion broke out–black–suited bodyguards flooded the corridor, forming a
tight security perimeter.
People were pushed to the sides, whispers buzzing through the air like static.
Two girls nearby leaned toward each other, gossiping in hushed, excited voices.

Gasps ripplest like wildfire
“There they are! Arthur and Latcy?”
I turned–just in time to see him.
Arthur
He stepped into view, tall and commanding, dressed in a custom black suit that screamed power and privilege
And in his arms…
He carried Lucy
Nurses and doctors swarmed toward them, their faces glowing with reverence.
“This way, Alpha Arthur.”
He walked past like royalty, untouchable and cold.
Lucy looked so fragile in his arms. Pale. Delicate. Doll–like.
“Oh my gosh,” one girl nearby whispered. “Arthur is so dreamy. Like a real Alpha.”
“And Lucy? She’s gorgeous. They’re the perfect pair–ballet beauty and billionaire wolf. Total fairy tale couple.”

Thun Arthur was married
To everyone else, I was invisible. A forgotten shadow.
In their love story, I wasn’t even a chapter, just a footnote,

But the moment 1 stepped inside…
My breath caught.
Arthur, Lucy, David, Anna,
They were all there.
Lucy sat perched delicately on the bed, a perfect porcelain figure, flanked by David and Anna–just like when we were children/
David beamed, “Lucy, this is incredible. Arthur found the miracle healer for you!”
Anna was crying, overcome with joy, “My baby girl… finally, you’ll be healthy. You’ll get to marry Arthur and live happily ever after.”
Lucy gave Arthur a sweet, shy/smile.
Arthur stood next to her, tall and still, brushing a gentle hand through her hair.
The picture in front of me was… perfect.

Chapter 13
Suddenly, inside the room, I felt it–Arthur sensed me.
He turned, and those dark, dangerously sharp eyes locked onto my face.
I froze, caught in his stare.
He narrowed his eyes and strode over, each step long and commanding.
“Cara. What are you doing here?”
“I…” I started.
His voice dropped, cold and accusing.
“You followed me?”
“I didn’t,” I said softly.
David and Anna noticed me too. Anna’s expression twisted into a frown.
“Cara, what are you doing here? Today is important. The miracle healer is here for your sister’s treatment. Why would you come now and stir up trouble?”
David’s face hardened. “You’re being ridiculous. Leave, Cara. Right now.”
Lucy didn’t say a word. She just sat there on the hospital bed, surrounded by them like some royal on her throne, her expression smug and detached.
Arthur reached me, towering/over me, his presence suffocating. He grabbed my arm–his fingers tight around my wrist.
“Still playing games? First acting cold, now stalking me? You think this is cute?”
His voice was glacial.

Stop wasting my time Leave
Everyone in that room wanted me gone.
I looked around–at Anna, Lucy, David–and I let out a quiet laugh. Not bitter. Just done. My eyes swept over each of them, cool and sharp, before I yanked my arm free from Arthur’s
My lips curved into a calm smile.
“Fine. I’ll go.”
Just remember–you’re the ones who told me to leave.
I turned and walked out.
But halfway down the hall, I stopped. I turned back, slowly, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.
“Arthur,” I said lightly, “do you even know why I came to the hospital today?”
He stared at me. My face must’ve looked pale under the lights–fine–boned, delicate, even
the tiny hairs on my cheek catching the glow.
He didn’t answer.
Didn’t even try.
“You’re being dramatic again, Cara,” he said with a sigh. “It’s exhausting.”
I stepped closer, my smile brightening.
“I came to help you.”
From my pocket, I pulled out a small, worn business card and held it out.
He took it, glanced down. The card looked like something someone would shove under a door.

The print read:

Arthur’s face–usually so unreadable–cracked, just a little.
I slipped the card into his suit pocket.
“Lucy’s sick, right?” I said sweetly. “But maybe you should get yourself checked too.”
Then I turned and walked away, heels clicking down the hall like punctuation marks.
Behind me, I could practically feel Arthur’s fist clench.
That man… always so easy to provoke.
And right on cue, Lucy’s voice floated behind me. Soft. Innocent.
“Arthur, don’t take her seriously. She’s not worth your time.”
Anna added quickly, “Right. Where is the healer, anyway?”
Everyone stiffened.
The healer was Lucy’s only hope.
Arthur checked his watch. The time had already passed.
Just then, a nurse stepped into the room. “Alpha Arthur.”
David, Anna, and Lucy all turned toward her, their faces bright with hope,
“Is the healer here?”
The nurse hesitated. “Yes… she arrived. But she left.”

“What?!” Arthur’s voice was sharp. “Why did she leave?”
The nurse looked regretful “she refused to treat Miss Lucy.”
Lucy went pale. “What? Why would she refuse?”
The joy in the room vanished in an instant, replaced by stunned silence.
Lucy broke down, voice cracking. “Why won’t she help me? Why?!”
David and Anna pulled her into their arms, soothing her like a child.
Arthur’s jaw tightened, his eyes sharp as blades as he stared into the now–empty hallway.
Outside the hospital.
“Cara.”
I stopped in my tracks.
It was Anna.
She walked over, holding something in her hand. “Here. For you.”
I looked down.
A check–for twenty thousand.
Anna smiled softly.
“Cara, Arthur doesn’t love you. Let him go. Let your sister have him. Take this money, go back to the countryside, and live a peaceful life. Be smart.”
I almost laughed.
If I hadn’t secretly done a DNA test between her and Lucy, I might’ve actually believed Lucy was her biological daughter.
Chapter 13
But she wasn’t.
Anna loved Lucy… because she loved David.
Nothing more.
I looked up and met Anna’s eyes, calm and steady.
“So the Luna title is only worth this little? Or is that what I’m worth to you?”
