Chapter 1
Chapter 1
On my 30th day of my food delivering job, I was just one order away from saving enough money to buy my boyfriend a watch.
Braving the heavy rain, I delivered a birthday cake to a private club, only to find him kissing his female boss.
I clenched my teeth, pushed the door open, and walked in.
With my raincoat and helmet on, my face was completely covered, so he didn’t recognize me.
His boss nudged him and cooed.
“Who delivers a cake in this kind of weather…”
My boyfriend, without even looking up, said.
“My baby’s too soft–hearted.”
“I’m making her work hard, she should be grateful to me.”
I bent down to place the cake, and my cold fingers accidentally brushed against a wine bottle.
The next second, I was shoved away.
“Drop the cake and get out, you good–for–nothing loser.”
“This wine costs thousands.”
“You couldn’t afford it even if you sold yourself.”
I lowered my eyes, smirked, and walked out of the room.
After leaving the private club, I called my dad.
“Dad, book me a flight.”
“I’m coming back to Newport tomorrow.”
“I agree to the date you set up.”
On the other end of the line, my dad paused for a moment but didn’t ask any questions.
He just said, “I’ll book the ticket now and send it to you.”
“Welcome home, sweetheart.”
I took off my helmet and let out a bitter laugh.

Chapter 1
My dad’s always been sharp.
It must’ve been hard for him to hold back his questions and anger.
After hanging up, I put my helmet back on and returned to the delivery hub.
The manager was still there.
When I told him I was quitting, he patted my shoulder with a smile.
“Finally saved enough money, huh?”
“Your boyfriend’s gonna be over the moon when he gets that gift.”
The other staff members laughed and teased me good–naturedly.
The watch Ethan liked was expensive.
His birthday was next month, and I wanted to surprise him.
To save up, I begged the manager to let me switch from an office job to delivering food.
I woke up before dawn every day to start my shift and didn’t get home until 2 or 3 a.m.
Everyone at the station knew how hard I was working.
Once, I got into an accident while delivering food, and the front of my bike was smashed.
The manager told me to take a few days off, but I insisted on working, dragging my injured leg to deliver orders.
Looking back now, it all feels like a cruel joke.
The manager, noticing my silence, thought I was just shy.
He laughed and said, “You’re so happy you’re speechless, huh?”
“You should just take a break and come back to the office job later.”
I forced a smile.
“Thanks, manager, but I’m going home. I won’t be coming back.”
The manager looked at me, puzzled.
“What? Getting married? Becoming a housewife?”
I calmly replied, “No need for gifts anymore. I’ve been away from home for too long.”
The room fell silent, and the looks I got were full of pity.
As I left the station, my phone buzzed with a text from Ethan.

Chapter 1
“Working late tonight. Don’t wait up.”
Working late?
More like working on his boss.
I didn’t reply and hailed a cab home.
Just as I got out of the shower, my phone buzzed again.
This time, it was a series of photos from Ethan in the shower, still as handsome as ever.
In each photo, there was a mirror, and in the reflection was his boss, dressed in something skimpy.
Before I could finish looking, the photos were deleted.
Then, a call came through. As soon as I answered, a stream of vulgar insults hit me.
I smirked and hit record.
If she had this kind of kink, I’d make sure she got what she deserved.
When the call finally ended, I silently saved the recording.
I looked around the apartment I’d lived in for half a year and started packing.
Half an hour later, I stared at the half–empty suitcase, feeling a bit dazed.
A year ago, when I graduated, I was the one with the most luggage in the dorm.
Ethan had to make seven or eight trips to move all my stuff.
My roommates joked about whether he’d get tired of me.
“My baby can buy whatever she wants. I’ve got the strength to carry it,” Ethan had said, wrapping his arm around
- me.
That confident, protective look of his was still fresh in my mind.
But later…
I stayed in Bayview for him.
To prove myself, I refused my parents‘ financial support and started job hunting.
