Sophia called Karina from a cell phone she borrowed from a nurse.
Karina drove to the hospital and took her back to Dolphin Cove.
She didn’t say anything on the way and Karina didn’t ask.
When they got home, Karina pulled her over to the couch and sat down.
“Check it out.” Karina handed Sophia Alexa’s cell phone, “Auntie left a message for you in the phone.”
The message was a long string of drones…….
The recording stopped and a dead silence fell over the house.
Sophia had long been in tears, but hadn’t made a single sound from the beginning to the end.
She pressed the phone to her heart, her pale lips trembling slightly as she said, “Karina, I don’t have a mom anymore.”
