“Emily, what’s wrong with you now? You’ve ruined this whole family!”
Aiden glared at me, his face filled
with anger.
But when his gaze fell on the family photo tossed into the trash, he froze.
Ever the neat freak, he bent down and picked up the album.
His tone softened considerably.
“I know things have been hard for you with the way things are at home, but you can’t take it out on Sunny. She’s given the White family a fighting chance; she’s our benefactor.”
“These material things don’t matter. If they’re gone, they’re gone. When we have money again, I’ll buy you new ones. These aren’t things to be thrown away in a tantrum.”
Aiden carefully wiped the dust from the photo album and placed it in my hands.
This thin album held the memories of our entire lives together.
From the moment I was born to my first words.
From childhood games to the day of our formal engagement.
The three of us had grown closer and closer, traversing the river of time.
We had almost become a real family.
But alas, deep love does not last, and extremes lead to their opposites.
That tiny gap between us became a chasm, pushing us toward the road of no return.
After they left, I lit the album on fire.
I watched as the feelings of over twenty years turned to ash.
Amid the blaze, I received a message from Tobias Johnson.
He reminded me that the agreed deadline was approaching and included a forwarded link.
The headline read: “Young Master of the Johnson Family Spends Millions on a Pink Diamond Necklace for His Future Mistress.”
In the interview, Tobias looked arrogant and unrestrained, as if the world revolved around him.
“If the White family is willing to send their daughter to be my mistress, of course, I won’t treat her poorly.”

The interview garnered intense attention online, with countless people hurling insults in the comments.
But I felt a strange sense of calm in my heart.
On the third day, I woke up early, hoping to say goodbye to my family.
When I walked into the living room, I saw Sunny crying in Stephen’s arms.
“I don’t mind suffering a little, but I can’t tarnish the White family’s reputation. Besides, I already have someone I love in my heart… Once I help the White family through this crisis, I’ll prove my sincerity with my life!”
In their stunned silence, I threw the rest of my belongings into the trash.
Everything in this house.
And all the affection from the past–I didn’t want any of it anymore.
Aiden and Stephen busied themselves comforting Sunny, taking turns swearing their love for her and vowing to confront Tobias Johnson.
I said nothing and quietly sat down to knit a scarf.
Tobias had sent me such a grand “gift“; it was only fitting that I prepared something in return.
Stephen shot me an annoyed glance.
“Emily, how can you still have the leisure to knit a scarf? Haven’t you seen the insults people are throwing at Sunny online? She’s an innocent girl–how could she possibly endure this kind of humiliation?”
Sunny was innocent.
The prosperity of the White and Kingston families was intertwined.
So he cared about the White family’s future and Sunny’s plight.
But he never cared about me.
When I didn’t respond, Aiden angrily grabbed the yarn from my hands.
The rough yarn scraped against my still unhealed wounds, causing blood to seep out again, staining the white thread red.
Watching the scarf I had spent sleepless nights knitting get ruined, the tears I had been holding back finally fell.
I couldn’t help but look up at them, my voice trembling.
“If it were me going to the Johnson family, would you still react this way?”
