The universe thinks I have main character nerves of steel because everything that could have gone wrong in my life has gone wrong. Knightly is in my life now and even if I want him gone, it doesn’t look like he cares about what I want.
The twins are both looking at pictures of puppies on my phone. I showed them the one I liked, and they are very excited. Maybe I can use this to soften the blow of telling them they have a father and that if I don’t willingly present them to him, it’ll become court–ordered. I’m glad we had that talk. I just don’t know how to proceed or how much I want to trust them.
“You look exhausted. It’s day three, Kendra hands me a glass of wine.
“I have something to tell you,” I say looking down at my babies. “About their D.A.D.,”
“Oh,” she says and takes a seat.
“It’s him,” I look up at her.
“Him?”
“Knightly, the guy from the airport,”
“What?” her eyes go wide. “They’re Knightly Blake’s-”
“Kenny,” I sigh.
“Oh, my god,” she clears her throat.
“He put two and two together and he wants to meet them,”
“I mean he has no proof,”
“It wouldn’t be hard for him to get it,” I glare at her. “And the last thing I want is to make this painful. He knows now. There’s nothing I can do to stop him from seeing them without all of this turning into a PR nightmare. His mom is an excellent lawyer for cases like this. She got Moon Angel full custody of her daughters and all of Perry Parker’s shit,”
“Mommy.” Ayrie giggles. “Swear jar,”
“Sorry,” I say and reach for my purse. That one was worth it.
“I can call my dad,” she suggests.
“No, it’s okay. It’ll be fine,” I shake my head. “I’m telling you because if they want to spend time with the twins, I’d like for you to go with them,”
“I don’t know,” she says skeptically. “What if they don’t like that? The Blakes aren’t exactly known to be chill,”
“Exactly. That’s why I’m asking. I trust you more than anyone. I can tell them that I’ve already paid for the time and that they’re really attached to you. It’ll help them adjust. These people are strangers,”
“You’re going to have to ask first,” she nods.
“Is there something you’re not telling me? They’re not like-” I lean in. “Criminals or something, right? You have to tell me before I let my babies go over there,”
“No,” she laughs. “They’re just- Fredrick Blake is old school. They come from old money. That entire family chooses what they want to do and the universe provides. You open. doors for them because of who you’re becoming. When the world finds out they’re Blakes. There will never ever be doors again,”
That is the first positive thing I’ve heard about the Blakes. Ever. I’ve looked into them. and all I’ve seen is controversy. Knightly causing havoc. Tessa Blake and her party antics. Then there’s Blithe Blake who was killed in New York four years ago. Around the same time, Knightly’s engagement fell apart. Researching them, only made my fears worse and cemented my firm grasp on not wanting this man near my little gremlins.
“I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I’m so scared,” I admit.
“It’s okay, Mommy,” Aizen stands up and comes over to me. He wraps his little arms. around me. Ayrie wiggles onto the couch and sits on my lap.
“I know how to kick super hard,” she says resting her head on my chest. “An Icy knows how to bite big ouchies,”
“You’ll protect me, right?” I smile.
“Yes,” Aizen squeezes me. “What are you scared about?”
“How fast things are changing.”
“New house,” Ayrie nods.
“New colorings,” Aizen adds. That’s what he calls my sketches.
“That’s right. It’s just a little scary,” I hug them.
“Are we going to go back to school?”
“Yes, I am working on that. You will be the first to know when it happens,”
“Aww,” they both groan.
I laugh and release them when they wiggle away. Aizen picks up my phone and hands it back to me. The two of them run toward their room so I just place it on the coffee table.
Did he say anything to you?” she asks.
“That he wants to be involved in their lives and that he doesn’t want to make this harder than it already is,”
“Do you believe him?”
“I kind of don’t have a choice.” I finish my wine glass.
“Want another?”
“No, I’m okay. I need to think about this,”
“He didn’t say anything else?”
“Like what?”
“I mean he just found out he has two kids. I feel like there would be endless questions -some accusations. I don’t know. Secrets always pour with things like this,”
“I thought about that too,” I nod. “I think maybe there will be more later. Right now, re both just freaking out. Let’s talk about something else,”
“Ok. Oh, I told my brother that we’re here and he asked if we would like to do lunch,”
“How is Ruin doing?” I ask.
“You know him. Always working,” she grins.
“Sure, I’ll ask Cevin to set it up.”
“Tomorrow at noon. We can go for your lunch break,” she waves me off.

“All right,” Lagree. “I’ll get the kids cleaned up and ready for bed. Take the rest of the night to yourself,”
“Thank you, I will, she takes my empty wine glass.
I tell the twins it’s bath time, and I go to run the water. I find their bubble bath soap is out. I toss the bottle out and make my way to the pantry. As I’m walking back to their room, I hear Kendra laughing.
“You have to get over here now, Ruin. No, you don’t understand. We’ve been waiting for Alpha Blake to drop the ball. I never would have guessed this bitch would have been as useful as she has been,” my stomach drops. ‘They’re Knight’s kids. That fucking rogue asshole. Get your team. Dad is going to lose his mind,”
I practically run to the bedroom.
“You need a haircut, Aizen laughs as he plays with Ayrie’s hair. She swats his hand away as she tries to take her t–shirt off.
“Wait, wait,” I say, I stop them and just shut the three of us in. “Put your clothes back
on,”
“What about bathtime?” Ayrie asks.
“It’s gonna wait. Put your clothes back on,” I scramble for my phone. It’s on the table.
Fuck. “Stay here. Clothes on. I’m gonna get my phone, okay?”
