Chapter 10
Evan’s surgery went smoothly.
Two hours later, he was wheeled into the isolation ward.
Seeing his small body still under anesthesia, Diana finally couldn’t hold back her tears.
Her slender hand pressed against the glass, as if trying to touch her child through it.
Watching her like this, Charles Foster felt an ache rise in his chest-an ache so sharp it clawed its way up to his throat.
His eyes reddened, and his voice turned low, as if suppressing a tremor.
“Don’t cry. The surgery went well-that’s good news.”
“Evan will need to stay in the sterile ward for a while. I’ve arranged for the best specialists to care for him. You’ve had a rough few days… Let me take you home so you can get some rest-okay?”
Diana wiped her tears and tilted her head, still effortlessly graceful.
“Okay. Wait for me-I’ll just run to the restroom real quick.”
As she walked away on her heels, Charles’ lips curved into a smile.
He turned and whispered to his assistant, Mr. Chambers.
“Diana’s barely eaten the past few days. Go book a table at the Skyline Revolving Restaurant downtown.”
“And-her favorite luxury brand just released their new collection. Call the store manager. I want the place cleared out just
for her tonight.”
“Also, don’t forget the flowers. You know what she likes-don’t disappoint her.”
He laid out everything in meticulous detail, but Mr. Chambers stood frozen like a statue.
Charles frowned, impatience creeping in.
“What are you waiting for?”
“Mr. Foster…”
Mr. Chambers lowered his head nervously.
“You forgot. Mrs. Foster is still upstairs on the seventh floor… waiting for you.
Charles’ throat tightened, his mind going blank for a split second
Damn it.
Vivian had just donated her bone marrow for his son.
She was still recovering upstairs….
And he-he had actually forgotten her.
He checked his watch and barked orders on the spot.
“Send Diana home first. You come with me-get the best medical team check on Vivian. Get her the highest-quality

nutrition packages. Also, check the upcoming auctions-anything truly valuable, I want it. I’ll gift it to her as
compensation.”
Charles gave instructions as he rushed into the elevator and back upstairs.
Along the way, he rehearsed again and again what he’d say to her-comforting words, heartfelt apologies.
“Vivian, are you okay?”
His warm smile and tender tone shattered the moment he pushed open the hospital room door-
The room was empty.
Vivian was gone.
Only her wedding ring and phone SIM card sat quietly on the bedside table, speaking volumes he couldn’t understand.
As if they were silently telling him just how much she’d endured.
She had likely left long ago.
His hand brushed the mattress-cold. No warmth left.
Vivian was really angry this time.
He hadn’t asked.
Hadn’t even discussed it with her.
He’d just taken her bone marrow-without anesthesia, no less-because time was tight.
She must’ve been in unbearable pain.
Painful enough that, for the first time in six years, she was the one to walk away.
Mr. Chambers pressed his lips together, hesitant to speak.
“Mr. Foster… Mrs. Foster, she…”
Charles placed the ring and SIM card gently into Mr. Chambers’ hand.
His ace stayed calm, but his voice carried a quiet certainty.
“Let’s head home. She must’ve gone back first.”
Half an hour later-
Foster Estate
Charles stared at the empty house
His breath caught
A sharp gasp escaped his throat before he could stop it.
