Chapter 22
Heading back to the party, I spent the entire night working as hard as possible.
I served guests who gave me disgusting looks and cleared dishes and glasses.
The vampires didn’t need to eat, but on occasions like this, they went all out, pretending to be human.
Then when that was done, the blood party began.
But not before the announcement of the Prince coming into the party.
I was standing by the fire exit entrance, my eyes roaming around to see if anyone needed my help. The other servants were working as well but the Mistress had given me a stern warning to not be found idle while there’s work to be done.
Maybe she told everyone that but I sensed a twinge of bitterness in her tone as she was talking to me.
I heard the loud horn announcing the entrance of Prince Lucien and I had to cover my ears from the overbearing sound. My nose and ears were the parts of my body that didn’t completely depend on my wolf to be exceptional.
“The Great people of Nyxandria, capital of the entire Vampire race, welcome Your Prince and future king, Prince Lucien Maverick Night!” Some Vampire wearing a red suit announced.
The sparkles on his suit were nothing compared to the beauty of the Prince as he walked into the gathering, waving his hand to his people. They all stood up in loud applause as he waved his hand at them, a strained smile on his face.
He seemed like he didn’t want to be here, which was weird, considering the party was literally thrown in his favor. In fact, when the king was introduced, nobody stood up, although he still looked young and powerful, it seemed the people were tired of him.
Don’t ask me how I know, I have sensitive ears.
I pitied him though. I didn’t really know what was wrong with the princes, but it seemed serious, and yet, the kingdom he was ruling over was giving him headaches.
I watched the Prince walk over to his father, his steps bold and prideful and he gave him a slight bow before sitting down.
The stage was set in a curved way, and the king and his son were sitting at the center, surrounded by other important officials.
Once he’d taken his seat, his father got up and the entire hall went silent.
Looking at him, the memories of him ordering his guards to lock me up pissed me off so badly. I couldn’t understand why their species were so comfortable with causing pain to others without any just reason.
Yet his son is demanding that I bring myself to his office to be drained every day. Now that I think about it, I should have asked him to let me see a doctor in exchange for my blood but I guess I was too scared being so up close with him.
The last time that happened, I nearly died.
“My time as your King has been good, peaceful, and successful,” the King began to speak, “but it has also been a long, long time. I’m finally ready to hang my legs in the air on some island without bothering about rules and politics and shit,” he said, waving his hand flippantly.
The crowd chuckled, a wave of happiness washing over them.
But the Prince, whose face I’d inappropriately been glued to ever since, moved his hand under the table and tapped his father.
To the ordinary eye, he might have done that by mistake, but the only ordinary eyes here were that of the humans, and they were still behind the curtains, not yet ready for feeding time.
