Chapter 12
The vampire looked back at me and a cruel smile lit up his eyes.
“So you won’t be able to scream,” he said, his eyes roaming all over my body. “The rules are for humans, and you are no human,” he muttered, an evil glint
in his eyes.
I didn’t know what he was thinking but I didn’t like it.
“Get back to work,” he yelled all of a sudden, making me scared, and then I walked past him, heading to the large heap of chairs I was to arrange around the huge hall. “If you don’t finish it, you are not allowed to leave here,” he added.
I paused and looked at him, my mouth open but unable to say anything.
“What? You thought you were going to sleep your way out of your duties? There’s no laziness here, wolfie; that’s why our kingdom fares better than yours. Now get to work. I won’t be responsible if anything happens to you during the day,” he whispered the last part but I heard him loud and clear.
Meanwhile, I could see the day breaking, and I knew I had to be faster than I had ever been before.
Whatever plan he had for me, it wasn’t one I wanted to partake in, that’s for sure.
But it was easier said than done; although my body had recuperated to an extent, I had spent three days in the underground dungeon with no food, water, or light. I was tired, weak, and overworked.
The chairs were large and heavy, and since I didn’t want anyone to know I didn’t have a wolf, I carried as much as possible, but that meant I couldn’t walk fast.
Gradually, the room emptied of other workers, leaving just me and the vampire who had his eyes set on my every move.
I could feel his eye on my back as I carried the last set to the front, arranging the seats meant for the royals.
With those, the seating arrangements were very important, and any mistake would end with my head on a pole, their words, not mine.
So I spent about thirty minutes on that too, placing the name tags according to the list and picture I had with me.
By the time I was done, it was fully day break and I couldn’t wait to just sleep, no interruptions. At least my body would finally be able to repair the damage completely.
Although I was angry at my wolf for leaving, if I succeeded in escaping, I would head firstly to the Temple of the Luna Goddess to beg for my wolf to come Gack. Things would be so different if she was with me.
Placing the last name tag, I turned around to find the entire hall empty but beautiful.
The balloons were hung, the ribbons and decorations were beautifully done and the chairs were properly arranged.
Hanging from the wall in front was the image of the Prince that had nearly killed me but none of his twins. I don’t even know what they were celebrating him for but it pissed me off that I was nearly killing myself with work for someone who wanted to kill me.
I didn’t even care to know if they were fine after the whole incident earlier, they were none of my business. I only missed working for them, it was better than this crap.
I quickly dropped the rag I used to work and began beading back down to the servant’s quarters, ready to collapse on my bed and sleep.
But I didn’t make it that far down the stairs because someone reached out from under it and grabbed my arm.
I looked immediately, and my heart slipped into my throat; it was the vampire I just worked for, and his cruel smile was back in place.
