Jericho strode forward with Kashton in tow.

“How did you know I was hospitalized?”

Romina’s gaze carried a hint of wariness as she quietly eyed them.

“I have friends at the hospital. I heard you were rushed in for emergency treatment, so I brought Kash to check on you.” Jericho’s eyes darkened. “Do you not know your own limits? Is there no security staff at the orphanage? Why did you, an outsider, have to risk yourself to save people?”

As his voice fell, the atmosphere around them instantly became tense.

“Jericho, how can you say that?” Elliana quickly stood up, positioning herself by the bedside with her back to Romi- na, and shouted at him, “When Romina arrived, the security staff hadn’t even reached the scene yet. There were so many children inside-should she have just watched them perish in the fire?”

“I’m just saying, she didn’t even have the ability to save anyone and almost lost her own life. In the end, she caused trouble for the staff. Isn’t that even more of a hassle?”

“Exactly!” Kashton chimed in from the side. “Mom, you’re always timid and afraid of trouble. Why did you have to make things worse at such a critical moment?”

As those words fell, a chill spread through Romina’s heart.

She had nearly lost her life, yet the first thing these father and son did upon seeing her was not to comfort her, but to endlessly criticize and scold.

How utterly ridiculous!

Timid and afraid of trouble.

She never expected her own son to describe her with such words.

All these years, it turned out that in his eyes, this was how she appeared.

“Timid and afraid of trouble? Your mother rushed into a burning building to save people, and you still call her timid?” Elliana’s brows furrowed, her eyes flashing with anger. “Kashton, how can you say that about your mother?”

Kashton glared at Elliana.

Perhaps the child was intimidated by her presence and didn’t dare to speak up again.

“Why are you scolding the child?”

Jericho quickly pulled Kashton behind him.

His eyes, fixed on Elliana, were filled with intense anger.

Elliana spoke bluntly, “I’m just stating the facts. Romina being stuck with you two is truly the worst luck imagin-

able!”

Jericho was so angry that his brows knitted tightly together.

Elliana had never approved of his marriage to Romina.

He had always known this.

But in the past, no matter how much she disliked the two of them, she would never confront them so directly.

So Jericho was truly furious now, the veins on his forehead bulging.

Just as he was about to speak, Romina, who had been silent, spoke with a cold expression, “Jericho, please take your child and leave my hospital room immediately.”

In Jericho’s shimmering eyes, that chilling coldness became even more pronounced.

“I brought my son here out of kindness to see you, and this is how you treat us?”

Romina was exhausted now and had no energy to argue with him.

Her voice was even colder than before. “I’m tired and want to rest. Please leave as soon as possible.”

“Fine, we’ll go.” Kashton tugged at his father’s hand, his young face showing clear displeasure. “Dad, since Mom doesn’t want us here, let’s just leave!”

Jericho had wanted to say more, but his son kept pulling him away, so he could only head out.

After the door closed, Jericho led Kashton toward the elevator.

Both of them were very angry, but neither spoke a word.

As the elevator doors slowly opened, a tall figure suddenly appeared before their eyes.

Jericho was a bit surprised. “Joaquin?”

Joaquin lifted his eyelids, his steps coming to a sudden halt. “What are you doing here?”

Jericho noticed the fruit basket in Joaquin’s hand, glanced at it briefly, then looked away.

Holding Kashton’s hand, he said calmly, “I got a call from a friend at the hospital today. Apparently, there was a fire at the orphanage and Romina was brought in unconscious. Kash and I came to check on her.”

“Mom even kicked us out…”

Kashton’s little mouth pouted, his face showing clear displeasure.

“Is that so?”

The man curled his thin lips, half-smiling.

“Joaquin, why are you at the inpatient department too? Do you have a friend in the hospital?”

Jericho glanced at the man before him, curiosity flickering in his eyes.

“Yes.” Joaquin pointed at the elevator, his voice casual. “The elevator’s here. You should take Kash home early,”

“Alright, Joaquin, let’s meet up another day.”

“Goodbye, Uncle Joaquin.”

Joaquin nodded lightly, saying nothing.

After the elevator doors closed, the man walked lightly toward Romina’s hospital room.

When Romina was sent to the emergency room, there had been an accident at the company’s project site, and he had left to handle it. Only now had he finished.
