Blake survived.
But word was he’d relapsed–flat on his back, catatonic
Never expected Vivian to track me down.
The second she saw me, hate flashed in her eyes. But mostly she just looked destroyed.]
“Could you… see him?”
She forced the words through gritted teeth.[]
Voice shaking like crazy.[]
“He won’t eat, won’t drink, won’t take his meds. Keep finding him staring out the window. t this rate he’s gonna jump!“[]
I set down my paintbrush slowly.[]
“So?”
Vivian went rigid.[]
Stared at me in disbelief, then exploded: “You used to be obsessed with him! How can you not care if he fucking dies!“]
God. I was tired of this.
Why did everyone keep throwing my old feelings in my face?]
“Key words–used to.”
“Besides, I’m married now. Why the hell would I still love him?”
Vivian lost it completely, charging over to destroy my painting.]
“I don’t give a fuck! You’re going! This is all your fault–he wouldn’t be sick if it wasn’t for you! You won’t even make amends. and now you won’t even look at him!”]
“Zara Bell, how can you be so heartless!“||
My expression went–ice cold.
“You’ve got some nerve blaming me for this.
*Security, get her out.“]
The guard dragged Vivian away while she screamed.
I rubbed my temples, picking up shredded paintings.
After all these years, those two were still wrecking my peace.
Adrian walked in on the aftermath.]
I explained what happened. His face darkened.]
I gently rubbed his back.
“Don’t go after them. Last thing we need is you poking a hornet’s nest.”
Adrian nodded grimly.]
We went back to our normal life.
But Blake found out about Vivian’s visit.
Apparently he trashed everything in his hospital room.]
Kept screaming about divorcing her, never wanting to see her again.[]
“I don’t get why he hates me so much.“]
Her eyes were swollen from crying.
“I’ve spent years babysitting his pill schedule. Years terrified he’d kill himself. But…but all he does is talk about you“]
“I begged you for help. Know what he told me after?”
She chugged her drink.
Batter laugh.]
“Pointed right at my face and said, ‘Leave her the fuck alone! Haven’t we destroyed her enough?”
I blinked, caught off guard.
Didn’t expect that.
Vivian sobbed harder seeing my reaction. “It’s like he’s possessed! He used to shit on you just as much as I did. I still can’t stand you, but him… why is he willing to die for you?”
My phone rang. I got up and bolted without a word.
Outside, Adrian touched my face. “You look awful. What happened?“]
I just smile.
“Just heard too much toxic bullshit.“]
