Jonathan left the police station and went straight to the office for an emergency meeting to deal with the fallout, and the public relations team was working overtime.
Jonathan barely slept that night. As soon as dawn broke, he headed over to Irene’s place.
Irene hadn’t slept a wink either. When she saw Jonathan, she cried and grabbed onto his arm. “Jonathan, you’re finally out. I was so scared you would end up in jail.”
Jonathan told her he was fine, and Irene nodded and hugged him, with her face streaked with tears.
She sobbed, “It must be your dad blessing you from heaven. If anything had happened to you, how would I even go on living?”
Jonathan was moved that someone cared about him, but his anger quickly overshadowed that feeling. He pulled himself away from Irene and said, “I have something to say to you. But before that, take a look at this.”
Irene looked at the file Jonathan handed over.
It turned out that the executive who had been double–crossing Jonathan and running shady deals behind his back was someone from Irene’s side.
That man was Spencer Lawrence, the younger brother of Heidi’s husband, George Lawrence.
Spencer got into Jonathan’s company because Heidi had begged Irene for help. Irene figured Spencer was George’s brother and a top student in finance, so she begged Jonathan to give him a job.
Spencer was sharp, shrewd, and capable, but way too greedy. It was not a bad thing for one to have some greed and ambition, but when greed took over, it never ended well.
Jonathan had noticed long ago that Spencer had gotten a little too full of himself. Last year, Jonathan had even considered transferring Spencer to an overseas branch, not wanting to keep him at headquarters.
However, Heidi begged Irene to give Spencer another chance and tried to send Jonathan gifts in private, but Jonathan turned them down. Heidi then brought up the favors she had done for him in the past, trying to guilt–trip him, and Irene helped her.
Thinking about all this, Jonathan let out a cold laugh.
He said, “I told you from the beginning that Spencer was a ticking time bomb, but you wouldn’t listen. You let Heidi egg you on and put pressure on me. Would you only be satisfied if I ended up behind bars?”
Irene was left speechless. She never imagined that the one who framed Jonathan would be someone from Heidi’s family
Jonathan said, “Spencer and Eason teamed up and pulled a fast one on me. I wasted two days on this mess. Forget about all the business deals we missed. Do you know how much we lost just from the hit to the company’s reputation alone?”
Irene finally deflated. She said with her lips trembling, “I had no idea Spencer would do something like that. I didn’t know
Eason was like that, either
Jonathan said, “You should have expected this outcome when you kept trying to please the Kelly family.
“I told you many times not to contact Yalena. I even sent you abroad, but you still went behind my back to keep in touch with her and told her everything about me and Teresa.
“Well, now you’ve seen their true colors. They got me thrown in jail and tried to destroy me. Does that make you happy?”

Irene’s face turned deathly pale. “I–I really had no idea the Kelly family would kick you when you’re down. I thought if you and Yalena got together, it would be a strong alliance through marriage. That was my plan. I did everything for your good.”
Jonathan raised his hand to cut her off before she could say anything more about doing it for his sake. “If you want to see me go bankrupt, then keep sabotaging me behind my back. Do whatever you want.”
Irene stomped her foot in frustration. “I was wrong about her. I thought Yalena wasn’t that kind of person.”
