Noah booked a flight to Paris.
Right before heading out, he texted me.
“Chloe isn’t feeling well emotionally, so I’m going with her to help her relax.
I was only joking when I said her child would inherit everything. As long as you behave, no one can take your place as Mrs. Stinson.”
But once he hit send, there was complete silence on my end, no reply at all.
He frowned and thought about calling me, but before he could, Chloe came over and reminded him to double–check the tickets.
Then, the two of them boarded the plane and flew overseas together.
But even after they landed, I still hadn’t replied to him.
Unable to wait any longer, Noah finally gave me a call.
But no one picked up.
This made him feel uneasy.
In the past, no matter how bad things got between us, I never ignored his messages, and I never refused to take his calls.

“It was just a little blood draw, and yet I was making such a fuss.

“Maybe it was because I treated her too well all the time that she started acting out of control.”
Frustrated, Noah blocked my number without hesitation. But right after that, a voice message from a friend popped up.
“Noah, what’s going on with your family? Why did Madam Stinson return all the baby gifts she ordered half a year ago?”
As more and more refund receipts came in, his face tightened with
concern.
Chloe saw his expression shift and leaned closer to see what was happening.
When she noticed all the return records, her lips immediately curled into a pout.
“Mr. Stinson, maybe you should just go back.
“This time, Madam Stinson is clearly on Adeline’s side. She sent everything back just to make you believe Adeline really lost the baby.
“You’re family. I’m just a nobody, someone who doesn’t matter.
“Don’t worry. Even if you’re not here with me, I’ll still bring our baby into the world and raise him well.
“It’s just… It’s so sad that our child won’t have his dad around…”
As Chloe talked, her voice started to break with tears.
At first, Noah had his doubts, but after hearing her emotional words, his expression turned cold.

He thought to himself, “She almost tricked me again.

“Wasn’t all this just to make me believe that the babies were gone and lure me back home?
“Well, I’m not giving her what she wants.”
Holding Chloe close, he spoke with a serious tone, “Don’t worry. I
promised I’d stay with you when our child is born, and I’ll keep that promise.
“Didn’t you say you wanted a new designer bag to show off? Let’s go. I’ll buy it for you.”
For several days, Noah spent time with Chloe. They went out to eat and had fun together.
And she didn’t hold back either. She had him buy her all kinds of luxury goods.
Watching her snap photo after photo while surrounded by piles of designer bags and clothes, Noah, for some reason, suddenly thought of

Even after all my years living with the Stinston family, I don’t think I ever bought anything expensive for myself.
The only thing of value I wore was the wedding ring–one that he casually told his assistant to pick out when we got married.

He stood up, planning to step outside for a smoke, when he got a call from the doctor looking after my mother.
“Mr. Stinson, Mrs. Stinson’s mother has passed away. What should we do with her remaining medicine?”
Noah froze, shocked.
“Adeline’s mom died? When did that happen?”
“It’s been some time, around two weeks ago, I think,” the doctor replied.
Noah was taken aback. He thought in his mind, “Two weeks ago?
“Wasn’t that the same day I had her mom taken away from the hospital?”
He suddenly remembered my red and swollen eyes when he saw me outside the study that day. A strange feeling crept over him. Something wasn’t right.
Without hesitation, he booked a flight and went back home.
