“Wait, what? What’s going on? Has the world finally glitched?” Christian said as he rubbed his eyes and checked the report repeatedly. “99.99%? This really has to be a bug,” he added.
“Mr. Dunn, what does 99 mean? Can Mr. Lime be my dad now?” Michael asked curiously.
“Hold on, Mike,” Christian said. He grabbed the report and rushed to the doctor who conducted the test, pointing at the bold black text in the last column. He asked, ” Doctor, what does this mean? 99.99%?”
The doctor gave him a look and said, “It’s written right there. The probability of this. genetic relationship is 99.99%. This DNA test confirms that the two individuals are father and son.”
Christian shook his head and said, “Impossible! Did your hospital make a mistake?”
“If
you
don’t trust us, feel free to go to another hospital. We’ve been conducting DNA tests for over 20 years without a single error,” the doctor replied confidently.
Christian was at a loss. This was the top DNA testing center at the most reputable. tertiary hospital in the region. Errors were indeed highly unlikely.
A small head popped out from behind Christian and asked, “Doctor, so, Mr. Lime can really be my dad now?”
The doctor confirmed, “Yes, kid, the man you tested is your biological father.”
“Exactly! I used Mr. Lime’s hair for the test,” Michael explained.
The doctor nodded and said, “Then yes, he is your dad.”
“Yes! Finally! Google really knows everything. Mr. Lime is officially my dad now!” Michael cheered.
Meanwhile, Christian stood frozen, dumbstruck by this revelation. It took him a while to regain his composure. “Mike, your mom wouldn’t happen to be Teresa Johnston, would she?” he asked.
“Mr. Dunn, why
you keep asking about my mom? For now, I’m not considering anyone other than Mr. Lime as my dad!” Michael said.
“So your mom is Teresa?” Christian gasped. ‘But how could this be? Mr. Lynn has explicitly stated he didn’t have any children. If he did, the whole world would know about it. How could such a big secret stay hidden?‘ he wondered.
Then, Christian thought of calling Sherry. She must know the truth. He was about to

“When are you bringing Mike back? Teresa’s home,” Sherry asked.
“You keep mentioning Teresa. Don’t tell me she’s Michael’s mom,” Christian said.

Sherry bit her tongue and replied, “No! How could that be? I’ve told you before–Mike is my sister’s son. My roommate is Teresa. My sister asked us to help take care of Mike.”
That explanation had always seemed plausible to Christian. Sherry had said her sister didn’t have her own home, so she brought Mike to live with her. Teresa, feeling
sympathetic, had let them stay at her place.
Michael was close to Sherry, like they really had family bonds. It made Christian believe it completely.
“Don’t lie to me. Mike is my boss‘ son–I already know,” Christian said.
After hanging up, Christian lifted Michael high into the air and said, “Michael, how did you end up in my hands? You’re not the pitiful one–I am. This world is too harsh. No, the world is kind to you, but it’s cruel to me. Aargh!”
Michael wiped Christian’s tears and asked, “Mr. Dunn, why are you crying?”
Christian replied, “Because society is too complicated. Plus, I hope to live in a simple
world.”
How ironic. He had comforted Michael earlier, telling him to stay strong and optimistic even if Jonathan wasn’t his dad. However, it turned out that Christian was the one who needed to stay strong.
The son of someone as powerful as Jonathan didn’t need optimism; he already had the world at his feet. Christian felt troubled by the fact.
Sherry arrived in a hurry, finding Michael asleep in the car’s back seat, clutching the DNA test report tightly.
Sherry said furiously, “How could you bring Mike to the hospital? I thought you took. him to the park or an amusement park!”
Christian explained, “Mike wanted Mr. Lynn’s hair for a DNA test. I thought he was just playing around, like how kids sometimes fantasize about being a billionaire’s child. To humor him–and teach him a lesson–I went along with it, thinking the results would show no relation.
But when I saw the report, I realized he was Mr. Lynn’s son. Mike even told me his mom is Teresa. Now, I get it.”
He continued, “Mike is close to you, so I assumed you were really his aunt. I contacted. the management at Rosary Estates. You’re living alone there. Mike isn’t your sister’s child.”
Sherry gritted her teeth and replied, “I didn’t want to lie to you, but Teresa didn’t want Mr. Lynn to know about Mike. Teresa has been so kind to me–without her, I wouldn’t have this job or a place to live. She’s my benefactor.“”
“Teresa may be your benefactor, but Mr. Lynn is mine. We’re both from a small town, and finding decent jobs wasn’t easy. You owe your loyalty to Teresa, and I owe mine to my boss,” Christian said, pulling out his phone.
