Chapter 56
“You’re right.” Aiden finally said, straightening to cast his gaze fowards his cousin. “I’m sorry. I know this wasn’t your fault.”
“It’s cool. Kyle replied seemingly over it already. “Hey, can we hang today? I am so bored!”
I laughed softly despite the pain and nodded. “Sure, although I don’t think I will be doing anything crazy.
“You two can come with me to the bat.” Aiden spoke up as he shuffled around to finish tidying up a few bits and pieces. I’d rather keep Ellie close by.”
“I bet you do.” Kyle smirked cheekily, ignoring my puzzled look and Aiden’s glare. “That’s fine with me anyway.
“Won’t it be busy? I don’t want to get in the way.” I shifted nervously.
It wasn’t the bar itself that had me suddenly wanting to crawl under my covers and cower but the last time I was in a crowd, things didn’t turn out so well for me.
“Not really. Besides you can hang in the office if you’d prefer.” Aiden offered, watching me closely. “I will be there so if you start to feel unwell or like it’s too much, just tell me.”
“Yeah I will be there too. We can order fries and chill.” Kyle nodded encouragingly.
“Okay.” I nodded, taking a deep breath in. “I need to sort myself out first though.”
“I think you look cute as you are.” Kyle teased, throwing in a carefree shrug that earned him a death glare from Aiden.
Did Kyle have a death wish or was he truly oblivious?
“I’ll be back soon.” I replied slowly, heading back to my room.
Showering proved a challenge but I desperately wanted to clean myself to wash away the last vestiges of that horrible ordeal. Sure, I could clean away the cuts and bruises or the sprained wrist and fractured ribs but I could clean away the dirt and the lingering feeling of being so exposed and vulnerable in front of so many people. The warm water serves to relax my muscles and I felt my headache lessen. By the time I had finished washing my hair, I felt like I could handle a little more of the world than when I stepped into the bathroom. Finding some loose jogging bottoms and a hoodie, I carefully dressed and prepared myself mentally to face the outside world.
Aiden and Kyle were back to normal when I got downstairs. I was already exhausted from the pain and trying to do everything while being stiff as a board but I was relieved to find Kyle and Aiden had settled their differences and were now acting like nothing had happened. The thought of them being at odds over something that neither of them had control over didn’t sit well with me. It certainly nyade heading to the bar easier with Aiden driving and me stuck between him and Kyle who was happily making small talk without a care in the world. I felt something touch my thigh, soothing heat spreading over my tender skin. Glancing down, I found Aiden’s large hand resting there comfortably, his thumb drawing light circles against my leg.
“I am sorry about the other night, you know?” Kyle finally turned his attention to the elephant in the room.
We had been sat on one of the large couches near the pool tables for about ten minutes. Aiden had given us some sodas and announced he had some things to do around the bar. There were a few patrons but the place wasn’t crowded sol didn’t feel like there were hundreds of pairs of eyes scrutinising me. We also had a clear view of the bar while the stylish

wood separator obscured our few of the rest of the patrons. In a way it was like our own little dan and I felt safe
“It wasn’t your fault, Kyle.” I sighed. “I’m just sorry that I rufried everyone’s night.”
“You didn’t, princess.” Kyle smiled sadly, fiddling with his soda can. “The others are worried about you too.”
“Tell them I’m fine and next time we’ll just skip the party,” I smiled trying to reassure Kyle.
“Deal.” He laughed, that cheery glint returning to lils eyes once more. “So are you and Aiden finally together or what? (2)
I nearly spat my drink out at this, my eyes going wide and cheeks reddening like I had just been caught stealing from the cookie jar. I looked at Kyle, unable to find any words to say while he just chuckled and shook his head a little,
“Relax, I worked out that Aiden was sweet on you when we first met. The death glare he gave me when he saw me holding your hand was priceless.” Kyle chuckled in amusement. “He kept asking how you were like some lovesick puppy. It was embarrassing.”
“Oh…” I muttered, glancing to the bar where Aiden was talking with one of the bartenders. “I don’t really know if I’m
honest.”
“Well it’s about time he made a move.” Kyle seemed far more relaxed about this than me. “I’m happy for you both but if he hurts you just tell me and I’ll kick his ass.”

I just blushed even more and took another gulp of my soda.

Im really enjoying this book so far, although I am a bit confused what happened at the party that caused Ellie to flee and get hit by a car?
