Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Elowen’s voice shrieked through the line:
“Cassian, don’t be stupid. You still have a shot–with me.”
“You think Seraphina cares? She’s done with you.”
“You’re nothing but a stain in her past.”
Cassian hung up without a word.
But Elowen was like a damn ghost–never far behind.
She came knocking, again.
Clearly, her flowers and smiles weren’t getting her anywhere.
Cassian took a breath and let her in.
“What do you want?”
Elowen, as shameless as ever, barked back:
“Why’d you vanish again?”
“No one gives a damn about you anymore–except me.”
“In Seraphina’s eyes, you’re pathetic. Do you get that?”
Cassian thought back to his trip–to that door slammed in his face.
His whole body shook.
Elowen kept pushing:
“Say something! What, cat got your tongue? I swear to God-”
“Shut up!”
A vein popped in Cassian’s forehead. Rage took over.
He grabbed the fruit knife off the coffee table, hand trembling as he lunged.
It only grazed her shoulder–but the scream that followed pierced the silence.
The two of them wrestled, fists flying, blood mixing.
By the time neighbors called the cops, they were collapsed on the floor, soaked in red and gasping for air.

Chapter 11
Sirens wailed in the distance, shrill and final.
Once they came to, they had no choice but to tell the truth.
And just like that, they were both behind bars–right where they belonged.
I only found out about the whole ridiculous mess after I got back to the States.
The house I used to live in?
Sealed off with police tape.
Not that it mattered to me anymore.
When I heard that Cassian and Elowen had both landed themselves in jail,
I couldn’t help but remember how he once said I was bad luck just because I was pregnant.
He wouldn’t even let me attend his wedding to Elowen.
And now look at him–a convicted felon.
If that’s not karma, I don’t know what is.
But my wedding?
It would never lose its joy because of someone like him.
Everything I wanted in life, I went and got it myself.
No one could stop me.
My fiancé and I had already signed the marriage license, everything was official.
Thank God I divorced Cassian back then–otherwise this would’ve been a legal nightmare.
Him and Elowen both behind bars…
Honestly, they’re a perfect match.
Looking at our wedding photo–two faces beaming with joy–I turned to my fiancé with a grin:
“How about we send them an invitation too?”
He looked at me, surprised.
“But… they’re in jail. It’s not like they could actually come.”
I stretched, feeling completely at peace.

Chapter 11
“I know. But sometimes it’s not about the guests showing up.
It’s about letting them know I’m genuinely happy now.”
I looked up at the sky.
Clear blue, not a cloud in sight.
The past was over.
The dust had finally settled.
Why bother looking back?
