When Jonathan called her Mrs. Lynn, everyone in the room froze.
Before anyone could throw another question his way, Jonathan had already gotten Teresa in the car and driven off, leaving all the reporter, behind
Jonathan’s phone started ringing again. It was another call from home. He sighed and answered.
Hayden exploded as soon as the call went through. “I just saw on the news that Teresa is pregnant again. Is it true? Is it your kid? What the hell is going
on?”
Jonathan replied calmly, “It’s true.”
Hayden got even angrier. “Really? You hid something this huge from me, didn’t you? I have called you a dozen times and you didn’t answer once. Ifit weren’t for the news, I’d still be clueless. Get back here now and explain yourself.”
Jonathan rubbed his forehead. “Grandpa, I’ll talk to you about it tomorrow. Right now, I need to head to the office and clear up the news about Teresa and me getting back together.”
“What? Did you get back together?” Hayden was stunned.
“Yes, we remarried,” Jonathan replied slowly, like the words weren’t easy to get out.
After a beat of silence, Hayden laughed. Even without the speaker, Teresa could hear his joyful chuckle. Hayden said, “This is great news. You’re not messing with me, are you?”
Teresa’s heart twisted with guilt. She hated lying to Hayden. Just as she was about to speak, Jonathan raised his hand, cutting her off, like he already knew what she was about to say.
He spoke before she could. “I’ve got stuff to deal with here. Gotta hang up for now.”
Teresa said quietly, “I really don’t want to lie to Hayden.”
“I know. I don’t want to lie to him either. He’ll understand eventually,” Jonathan said softly.
“It’s easier to talk to everyone else, but Hayden is getting old.” Teresa said after a pause, “We still have to tell him the truth. I don’t want it to be worse if he finds out later.”
The car screeched to a stop. They arrived at Horizonlead Group.
Jonathan gripped Teresa’s shoulders with both hands. “You don’t need to worry about anything else. Just make sure you’re not under any more stress right now.”
Reporters had once again gathered at the entrance. Jonathan turned to Teresa and told her to stay in the car. “Do you know how it feels, watching people tear you apart like that?
“I can’t take care of everything right now. I just need you and the baby to be okay. Give me three months, and I’ll talk to my family. I’ll take all the heat.” Then he slammed the door shut and got out.
Teresa stared at his back as he walked away. In her condition, showing up at the press conference wasn’t an option.
She thought, ‘Does he know how it felt for me to read those vicious comments about him? I won’t be going to sit back and let him deal with everything on his own. Once the baby was born, I’d be ready to face it all.‘
As soon as Jonathan showed up at the Horizonlead Group press conference, alleyes and cameras were on him.
He sat down, grabbed the mic, and leaned in a little. “Sorry for keeping you all waiting. I’m Jonathan, CEO of Horizonlead Group.”

Cameras kept flashing nonstop, but no matter how many pictures they took, not one made him look bad.
A reporter said, “Mr. Lynn, is it true your ex–wife Teresa is pregnant with your child? And is it true what people are saying that she’s thing this kid this money from you?”
Jonathan frowned. “That’s complete nonsense.”
“Are you saying your ex–wife isn’t actually pregnant?” another reporter pressed.
“She’s really pregnant, but she’s not single because-” Jonathan paused mid–sentence.
What no one knew was that just minutes before entering the conference room, Hayden had sent him a long message.
Hayden: [I don’t know if you and Teresa really got back together, but I sure hope it’s true. When you’re broke, everyone ignores you, but when you’re rich, they pretend to be nice. You’re doing well now. Watch out for those women who fake affection.
Even with your looks, no one would approach you when you were dirt–poor. Teresa, however, married you without a second thought. She paid over 20: thousand dollars for my surgery when our family was struggling.
Teresa is not the gold–digger type. If you really got back together, you’d better treat her and her child better.]
It was a voice message, and Jonathan had it transcribed. When he read the part about Teresa paying over 20 thousand dollars–for Hayden’s surgery, he
froze.
The conference got pushed back five minutes. He used the time to call Hayden and ask when that surgery happened.
Hayden told Jonathan it was back when he had just gotten married. Hayden needed heart surgery, and it was Teresa who paid for it. That same year, at Jonathan’s grandmother’s five–year memorial, Jonathan was out of town, so Teresa helped them with it.
The more Jonathan thought about it, the more he felt like a fool who was completely blind to everything she had done.
“Mr. Lynn? What were you going to say just now?” The reporter’s voice pulled him back from his thoughts.
Jonathan came back to his senses and finally finished what he was saying. “I hope the online attacks on Teresa will stop. She and I have been getting back together for a while.”
There was a buzz from the audience. They thought, ‘What does Jonathan mean?‘
Jonathan went on. “It was I who asked for the divorce. Back then, wanted to start a business and didn’t want her to take on the risk with me. However, instead of blaming me, she lent me money to help me get started.
“I came back to Nareigh later, and we stopped talking for a while. That was when I found out that she was already pregnant before we broke up.”
As soon as he said that, the room was stunned.
Someone had actually spotted Jonathan at the theme park with a boy last month, but the story was quickly buried. Since he wasn’t a celebrity, most people didn’t think his private life was worth digging into.
If someone hadn’t tried to stir things up this time, the story wouldn’t have blown up, and all these reporters wouldn’t even be here.
“Mr. Lynn, is it true you already have a child together?” a reporter asked.
Jonathan nodded. “Yes. We have a very cute son.
Jonathan had held these words in for so long, Now, at last, he could tell the world he and Teresa had a child.
