Chapter 7
The cat’s fur stood on end as it looked around frantically.
Finally, its gaze settled on Ruth, who was sleeping peacefully on the bed.
Without hesitation, I scooped up Ruth and rushed into the bathroom.
Fortunately, it was a sliding door, and I quickly shut it behind
- us.
Outside the door, the cat kept crying out with piercing, haunting wails.
In the midst of the chaos, Ryder’s call came through.
I grabbed onto it like a lifeline, desperately shouting, “Ryder, the cat is here with me now! What should I do?”
I was on the verge of tears, holding my child with one hand while pressing firmly against the door with the other.
The cat’s cries outside grew more and more pitiful.
Ryder said, “What did you say? The cat found you?”
I replied, “Yes! I’m hiding in the bathroom right now, and it’s right outside the door! What should I do?”

Ryder sounded even more anxious than I was: “It’s actually coming for the child. Why don’t you give the child to it and let it nurse the baby once? Don’t worry, it won’t dare hurt the child. If the child dies prematurely, its soul will dissipate along with it.”
I was shocked, my voice becoming hesitant: “You’re not joking, are you? You want me to throw my daughter out there and hand her over to it?”
Ryder said, “Yes! Listen to me, okay? This is the only way to keep both you and your daughter safe!”
The cat’s pounding against the door grew more violent, and I gradually felt murderous intent rising within me.
I asked, “Can I just stab this cat to death?”
Ryder quickly said, “What? No! You absolutely cannot do that! Are you crazy? If you kill the cat, it’s like killing your own child!”
I took a deep breath and asked quietly, “Really? Is that really how it works?”
Ryder earnestly persuaded me: “Yes, I wouldn’t lie to you. Just listen to me, put the child outside, and everything will be over! The child won’t die, and neither will you!”
I nodded obediently: “Okay, I understand.”

Then I pulled out the fruit knife, yanked the door open, and stabbed down without hesitation.

The cat had no time to react as the blade pierced its chest, blood spurting from its mouth.
Its eyes gradually lost their luster, turning gray and dim. Looking closely, I could see that moment of shock, confusion, and fear of death.
A scream came through the phone: “What have you done?”
This was followed by chaotic shouting, with someone calling Ryder’s name.
The cat wasn’t completely dead yet, its body still convulsing.
My anger still burning, I pulled out the knife and stabbed again.
I didn’t stop until the floor was stained red with blood.
At the same time, Ryder on the other end of the phone also drew his last breath.
I said, “Ryder, I think you and that cat were the ones who were truly connected. Only with your death can my life return to peace.”
